Got that creative itch? Make Your Own are here to help! Set up by Diana and Sam in 2017, the couple now host over fourteen different in-person and virtual arts and crafts workshops from their colourful studio in Borough in Central London – and are firm believers that everyone has a creative side waiting to be explored. From lino printing to embroidery, candle painting to handmade pottery, get ready to be inspired to unlock your inner artist!
We’re on a mission to..
“Help 1,000,000 adults tap into their creative side – we're well on our way to achieving that!”
We create a nurturing workshop environment by…
“Our friendly team of creative hosts are there to support our guests every step of the way in our workshops, whether they’re a complete beginner or an experienced crafter. We make you feel at home, spread lots of good energy, let you go at your own pace and make you comfortable to give it a try. We find this really helps guests tap into their creative side and create a piece they are truly proud of, which is fabulous.”
My top tip for craft beginners…
Don’t overthink it! At M.Y.O we like to encourage guests to take it in little steps, go with the process we share and trust their instinct – as everyone is more creative than they may think! You’ll be surprised at what you can achieve and the results are so rewarding.”
Making with others is…
“Magic! We love the community that craft workshops bring with them, especially as guests can explore over fourteen different creative classes. So often we see people meet new friends and make new connections during one of our creative workshops; we recently had a few people meet at a public class who all decided to come back again together! So lovely.”
My most heartwarming student moment is…
“We have so many it’s hard to pick! One that happens so often is that heartwarming feeling when someone comes to a group workshop or public class saying ‘’I’m just not creative’’ and once we’ve got them comfortable and started, seeing that moment when their piece comes together and how proud they are of what they’ve created. It's just wonderful and never gets old.”
Crafting can help you save money by…
“Crafting can be a brilliant way to save money as you pick up so many skills, tips and tricks. We had a person attend our macrame plant hanger workshop, who learnt the basics of the craft with us, continued her interest at home and went on to make her very own macrame top – it was beautiful! At M.Y.O we love seeing how inventive people can be after tapping into their creative side with us. Lots of our crafts allow people to make more affordable gifts, like lino prints, or decorative crafts to display at home, such as embroidery wall hangings. It’s also a fun and affordable activity to make things at home once we've shown you how!”
You’ll leave our workshops feeling…
“Proud of what you have made and excited to have learnt new skills to take out into the world. You’ll also experience the benefits that creative workshops can have, like reducing stress & anxiety, improved confidence and boosted self-expression. You'll see the world a little differently, in a good way!”
