Bobbin Lace Making Class for Beginners

Discover the art of bobbin lace making at this relaxing weaving class in Buckingham

2 hours Class size 4 to 10     label £45

Join passionate textile artist, Suzanne at this hands-on workshop in Buckingham and learn the basics of how to make lace. Over two hours, Suzanne will show you a basic stitch to make a ‘Torchon Ground’ lace bookmark.

Handmade bobbin lace, which has been around since the 16th century, is a type of off-loom weaving created atop a “lace pillow” with threads wound on bobbins. Though it might look complicated, all bobbin lace is made with two moves and four bobbins at a time. In this workshop, coloured threads will be used to make it easier to see your lace take shape.

If you love Macramé you will love bobbin lace making and once you have mastered the one stitch Suzanne has offered to run other workshops to enable us to learn different stitches to make different designs.

At the end of the class, return home with all your textile pieces and the confidence to continue learning this fun new hobby!

The Nimble Thimble was started in 2009 by two friends Val Sandford and Jane Templeman who loved to craft but couldn’t find anywhere local.

From this small beginning The Nimble Thimble was born and proved to be a huge success. So much so that it quickly out grew its premises in Bridge Street and moved to a larger space in Well Street, where it can still be found today.

In 2020 Jane Hawkins took over and, together with Sara Blackwell and Kate Lowe, they aim to make The Nimble Thimble the one stop destination.

2021 saw a facelift and reorganisation of the shop layout. This created more space for new yarn and crafts as well as dressmaking fabrics for the first time.
