Rag Rug Wreath Workshop

Discover how to make a rag rug wreath at this beginner-friendly Buckingham workshop

2 hours Class size 4 to 10     label £35

Looking for unique things to do in Buckingham? Discover how to transform old rags into a textile art masterpiece at this hands-on workshop with The Nimble Thimble.

As the name suggests, a rag rug is a rug made out of rags! They have been made worldwide for many decades and were originally a cheap way of providing warmth and comfort from hard or dirt floors. In modern times, rag rugs are still cheap to produce, and more importantly, a sustainable and environmentally-friendly craft.

Over two hours, you will make a mini rag rug wreath. Your friendly teacher will show you how to cut your material to the right size using a gauge, show you a good trick for cutting long strips and demonstrate how to use the different tools for the different styles of rug.

Return home with your completed masterpiece and the confidence to continue making DIY rag rugs. This craft can be adapted to make flowers, wall hangings, wreaths and cushions, so you won't be short on inspiration!

Your teacher

The Nimble Thimble was started in 2009 by two friends Val Sandford and Jane Templeman who loved to craft but couldn’t find anywhere local.

From this small beginning The Nimble Thimble was born and proved to be a huge success. So much so that it quickly out grew its premises in Bridge Street and moved to a larger space in Well Street, where it can still be found today.

In 2020 Jane Hawkins took over and, together with Sara Blackwell and Kate Lowe, they aim to make The Nimble Thimble the one stop destination.

2021 saw a facelift and reorganisation of the shop layout. This created more space for new yarn and crafts as well as dressmaking fabrics for the first time.
