Wondering what to do when bored at home during lockdown 3.0? Put on an apron because you're about to finally get on board with the ultimate UK lockdown trend - baking sourdough.

Soon, they'll be no need to spend your precious pennies on an artisan loaf from the expensive craft bakery down the road. That's right, you're going to be baking your own hot, fresh, full of airy holes, delicious sourdough.

This course is a four-part series for beginner-bakers. You will also be given access to a number of accompanying pre-recorded videos to guide you on your sourdough journey.

How this course will run:
Week one and two:

  • The first online class will be an introduction to sourdough and will go over the essentials such as which flour to use.
  • You will also be given access to two pre-recorded videos which will cover your sourdough shopping list and a step-by-step tutorial on how to make a sourdough starter, ready for your next class.

Week three:
  • After you have given your sourdough starter time to ferment, you will join another live online class where you will be shown how to look after your starter. Your expert sourdough baker will also help you to identify the right time to have a go at baking your bread!
  • You will also be given access to two pre-recorded videos which will show you how to make and bake your bread which you can watch over the course of two days.
  • You will also be given practical notes so you have absolutely everything you need to get baking!

Week four:
  • After you have baked your tasty sourdough, you will have the opportunity to ask any burning questions with a live Q&A session!
  • You will also be given access to two recipe ideas for discarded starter (the unwanted starter once your master starter has been refreshed). The idea is to reduce our waste as much as possible by making more delicious baking goods.

My name is Corinne Cervetti and I am a domestic baker based in Edinburgh, UK. Over the past five years, I have educated myself on the sourdough bread practice and started sharing my knowledge with others in the past two years in my own kitchen. I am truly passionate about this as I believe that real bread not only is better for your health but also for our environment. While taking the time to learn the process you will naturally start questioning our way of consuming and producing food over the past 100 years - mass production, additives and pesticides etc. Oh, and your bread will taste so wonderful, you will soon find yourself on a path of no return... in a good way!

I have also previously taught modern languages so if you would like your sourdough class in French - that can be arranged. When I am not in my kitchen, I am in the pool somewhere or in the sea to offset all my baking goods of course!
