In Amy's words

I'm a Newcastle-based writer, living in the city with my fiancé – and I love it! I moved here from the North West for university, and never left.

I love writing fiction and screenplays, and I'm a big reader (although I do think that buying books and reading them are two separate hobbies!). I like to travel when I can, and when I'm not reading or writing, I'm probably watching movies – I used to work for an independent local cinema, and it was a hobby that stuck!

I've worked as a freelance writer in film, TV and culture spaces and personal essays, and I've had a short story published in a collection with New Writing North.

Top weekend activities

Settling down at a lovely coffee shop for a coffee and a cinnamon bun. I really like Lagom – best coffee in Newcastle!
Heading off for a walk with my fiancé or friends somewhere gorgeous, like the beach or a park.
Browsing a cute market or bookshop is always the cherry on top!

Favourite craft

I love to collect anything and everything, and then turn it into junk journaling or collage art pieces. I've never tried jewellery making and have always wanted to, so that's probably my next creative adventure!

3 top tips to recharge and unwind

Try to interrupt your usual routine on the odd occasion. Pick a new craft, listen to a new album or walk in a different park.
Don't look at your phone first thing in the morning! Carve out time to go screen-free and do something creative instead.
Connect with the people who make you happy. We need community!

3 top tips for embracing creativity

Make time for creativity, even in small moments. A bit of journaling or getting lost in a book can go a long way.
Don't expect complete perfection from yourself! Give yourself the breathing space to learn and experiment, and let everything else come naturally.
Let yourself daydream. We're constantly surrounded by screens and distractions. Letting your mind wander is where you might find the loveliest of ideas!
