The class was enjoyable and the teacher was friendly. You’re not able to take your pottery away right away, have to return in two weeks

Jessica Mar 2024

Similar to other reviews, this was ok. Definitely not a "class" as advertised, we were given some basic instructions and then we were left on our own. I even asked the instructor if she could help my friend and she said no! Not worth the price

Emma Mar 2024

Class was very disorganised, instructions weren’t really given and the equipment was all quite dirty. Still and enjoyable thing to do but was just lacking in execution.

Chris Jukes Mar 2024

Loved it - would recommend. Great teacher, good pace, very relaxing. Five more words words words.

Mary Pattinson Mar 2024

Packed a lot into 1.5 hours! Would love more time on the wheel but understand theres only so much that can be squeezed into a short session

Ruchi Mar 2024

26 of us went Lipstick Making and had a wonderful time!
The lady was fantastic with the explanations and everyone enjoyed the experience.

Lois Lindley Feb 2024

A fun experience, I enjoyed this afternoon, as did my sister and niece! Looking forward to seeing the final pieces.

Hiya, It was first time trying out the workshop and it was brilliant. I had such a wonderful experience and the instructor was lovely.

Temi Olugbenga Feb 2024

It was a really fun time and I think a super relaxed idea for a date.

Anonymised ClassBento student Feb 2024

The session was fun! It wasnt a class as there was no real guidence, but just a go crazy session which we enjoyed. It was a shame there weren't a great mix of paint colours and the session was advertised at the wrong time as when we all turned up it was half an hour later. But overall we enjoyed the class and think it's worth the money.

William Feb 2024

Had a wonderful early Valentine’s Day session with my partner. The teacher was fun and passionate about the work and helped out when we had questions or difficulties. The venue was nice and cosy with all the materials and tools needed to make a great little pot. My favourite part was customising my pot with little details and giving it my own flair. Looking forward to picking it up in a few weeks once glazed.

Such a great experience and definitely great value for money.
All the materials were provided.
Our teacher was amazing, she explained everything and it was clear she had lots of experience colour matching. We were very happy with the lipsticks we made. Will definitely be booking again.

TikTok really hyped up this place

Not bad not good - the teacher left us in the room then came back when it was time to leave

Zaiba Abid Feb 2024

We popped down to 76 Druid to make some lipsticks for a birthday. All of us felt the session was very enjoyable and our teacher very knowledge and helpful. The venue was tidy, the materials of a high quality and overall well worth our money.

It was a gift and the entire class was a great experience.
I came on my own and felt very comfortable and able to concentrate and feel welcome.
The venue is lovely, I learnt a lot from the teacher who was laid back and clear and very helpful.
I will definitely be back with my new friend for other events.

Pablo Feb 2024

The class was not what it was sold as. Firstly, there was no guidance from the teacher at all. We were expected to just crack on. Although we did overall enjoy the experience, the price doesn’t match the expectation. The woman who was in the class said we had to leave early, then said we arrived half an hour late but our booking was 7:30 and that was the time we arrived. At 8:30 she said we had to go and that the class started at 7. This created an awkward atmosphere despite us showing her our booking. So we just left. We very much enjoyed the time together doing the activity but it could benefit from more leadership from the teacher and a positive attitude.

Anonymised ClassBento student Feb 2024

This was a very enjoyable creative experience. The teacher did not provide much instruction but was available if you had any questions.

Willow Ryan-Godfrey Jan 2024

We made candles. The teacher was lovely and very descriptive. Lots of material provided to do what you like, and the venue was also lovely. Only issue: the venue was very difficult to find. Bar that, was a lovely time.

Anonymised ClassBento student Jan 2024

The teacher and session itself were fantastic - she was so knowledgeable and we were all so pleased with our lipstick. The session lasted 2 hours, rather than the 1.5hrs advertised - which is not an issue but needs to be clearly advertised as we had to move plans for after the workshop.

The venue is brand new and isn’t quite finished - building materials need to be removed, toilet and handwashing facilities need completing/improving, and a thorough clean is needed after the building work (our coats were left very dirty). It’s also worth noting that the building is cold and that noise travels a lot from other classes upstairs and downstairs.

Teacher was good but there were too many people in the class. The location of the new place is very noisy and it was difficult to hear properly.

Venue was very cold and didnt expect the layout of the class to be the way it was.

Jan Chakravarthy Jan 2024

What a lovely class this was! It was so engaging yet at a relaxed pace. The instructor was so patient, kind and knowledgeable and I loved the colours she picked to make the perfect shade for my skin. Thank you for such a wonderful afternoon!

Eleanor Abbott Dec 2023

Customer service wasn't too great, the class was fun but very self serve and felt like being herded in groups and pretty chaotic.

Booking through Class Bento meant (according to the Token Studio staff) that the class times were incorrect, and after reading we had to arrive early, we essentially had to wait an hour for the class. This would have been fine if we were told originally, but first they said 30 mins so we just decided to have a walk around vs going somewhere to wait but when we came back they then told us about the disparities and we had to wait a further 30 minutes.

Long story short we waited in the cold for an hour when we were trying to be prompt and conscientious and felt penalised for that.

Funso (Funshor) Shoderu Dec 2023

The ceramics workshop included some wheel throwing, a bit of hand building, and painting of your creation. Had a laugh with some of the people I met at the workshop and enjoyed sipping my drink that we were allowed to bring. My only criticism of the workshop is that it was too short and far too busy.

Our teacher was amazing! We ended up having a private session (just the two of us) and we loved it.

Great for a bachelorette, birthday or just a nice day out, I definitely recommend.

Iris Dec 2023

Great experience - different mugs/plates/etc to choose from. Nice sheets you could use for the design of your pot. The teacher was friendly and helpful.

Emile Junet Nov 2023

Not a low-key class, we were so many… and the guy made the base himself for everyone at the end… not a lot of time practising…
Everybody is drinking Prosecco and champagne. It is very much a chill class, not very suitable for the ones like me who really want to learn ceramics…

Jumoke Shoderu Nov 2023

A very busy classcould have done with a little extra time. Overall a lovely fun class, and a nice introduction to pottery and wheel throwing.

Anonymised ClassBento student Nov 2023

Each stage of the class was fun, but it felt quite rushed as there was a group immediately before and after us. Also, not a lot of opportunity to drink the bottles we brought with us.

It was a nice, brief introduction to pottery.

Adrienne Hudson Nov 2023

It was okay but far too busy and not as well organised as previous token visits

Lucie Delamer Nov 2023

Great class this morning. We made a beautiful soy candle with flowers, glittery crystals and essential oils. I will try again as home but will surely recommend this course!

Soy Candle Making Class review by Lucie Delamer - London

Janet Harvey Nov 2023

Learnt so much and teacher so knowledgable and skilled. Also made it a fun afternoon.

Aukse Barakauskaite Nov 2023

This was a fun workshop! The teacher was really nice and friendly, and we learned some things about candle making in general (types of wax used, for example), before working on making one ourselves. There were a lot of dried flowers and crystals, ribbons and stickers to choose from for decorating, and lots of essential oils for scenting the candles. Also salts that you could add to your cabdle too.
You get to do four different layers of scents, so you get try out a lot of combos. The candle is a nice size, ai think the teacher mentioned it can burn for 60-70 hours.
It was a great experience, and we got some cute (and nice smelling) candles out of it. I highly recommend it!

Anna Jeziorek Oct 2023

It was an experience involving lots of senses helping you to ground and be in feminine energy. Loved it

Raghad Al Salmi Oct 2023

It was wonderful and therapeutic, the teacher was friendly and helpful. Lovely selection scents and a cozy place.
Would recommend

Rishika Jain Oct 2023

The teacher was very kind and supportive and i had a-lot of fun during my class. She was there to help at every step and coordinated with each one of us wonderfully.

Poppie Ley Oct 2023

Really good facilities, lovely vibe. We arrived a little late and they extended our time. However there wasn't much guidance from the staff when we arrived. They appeared distant and unhelpful. The seats were not very disability or fat friendly and tables very close together so you would not be able to get a wheelchair there.

Shenaz Oozeerally Oct 2023

There could have been more instructions and guidance. It felt like I paid to do everything myself

Abdul Shamriz Oct 2023

Good amount of time, didn't feel rushed and it was a good experience. I would come again for another class.

Great experience with a really friendly teacher. She offered advice throughout and explained the process really clearly.

Natasha Uchimoto Sep 2023

It was a great experience, easy to follow instructions and the teacher answered all of our questions with full detail. I am consistently using the lipstick I made!

Anonymised ClassBento student Sep 2023

Nice fun vibe - well organised but a bit rushed! Would have loved to have more time to learn how to play with the clay

Becca Painter Sep 2023

Just a really unfriendly experience - not at all what we were expecting from the description. Took ten minutes for anyone to greet us then another ten minutes waiting. Instructions were hard to follow and the instructor seemed to be managing three groups at once so had very little time. No chance to drink any BYOB. Seems like they're just trying to get as many people through as possible. Not worth the money, stay away.

Anonymised ClassBento student Sep 2023

Was a great experience, class was fast paced but informative for beginners.

Would definitely recommend.

The teacher who took the pottery class itself was really excellent but after the class had ended it was unclear what we were supposed to do / where we were supposed to go to paint it and finish it. We have to wait two weeks to have the pottery glazed so I can't comment on the follow up yet.

Jessica Birch Aug 2023

Super fun candle making workshop and tons of personalisation options! Had an amazing time and the owner was so lovely.

Soy Candle Making Class review by Jessica Birch - London

Lily Aug 2023

To be honest I expected more. The teacher’s explanation were basic. I think it was a nice experience but didn’t learn that much. He was very kind though.
After a complicated process for picking up my final pot, the man who was there wasn’t really nice, he seemed exasperated, and it was less than 2 minutes that I was there.

Joss was a great teacher and made the session really light and funny. It was also really informative and looking forward to trying it some more

Shanti Kulandaivelu Aug 2023

Class was okay.
The lady who did the meet and greet was awful- seemed confused about the booking. Seated our group of 6 and then forgot to tell us the session had started downstairs- meaning we missed out on the intro and weren’t able to take part next to each other.
Session itself was okay- could have been more organised.

The candles making session is extremely therapeutic and the tutor taught every quite nicely. Over I enjoyed the workshop and the candle I made was very pretty. Just in love with the experience. I did this as a birthday treat for myself and a friend and we loved the experience! The teacher was patient and really took the time to explain the pigments to ensure we got the perfect colour and tone we wanted.

Sabrina B May 2023

I had a fab time! Fun and relaxing to do, supported by a great teacher.

Cheuk Lo May 2023

All the teachers were very helpful from start to finishes. I was kind of slow in EVERY step but no one ever rushes me! You will have a set time when you will be on the wheels but after that it’s creativity time and you can use clay to shape your piece or add to it. Then you can paint it and take your time! Super cool and chilled experience highly recommend for beginner like me.

Heejin Lee May 2023

Loved it! Teacher's explanation was simple and clear which was easy to understand. It would be better if the colors on the sample plate and actual colors that we used are same because my friend and I had a discussion what baby pink will looks like

Our teacher was so lovely and really took time to explain the importance of the different oils and the soy wax we used. She also took time to show us how to compliment each fragrance and also took some time to look at everyone individually and offer advice. 10/10

Candle Making class review by Bethany Richards - London

Sean Wyatt-Livesley May 2023

Great little workshop. The staff were very friendly, and it was structured very well. First section was using the wheel and learning the basics. The instructor made sure everyone had something to take away. Then we went over to forming and then painting left to do what we wanted. It was a little warm downstairs, and there's only one small toilet but neither were something that annoyed me. I can understand other reviews that if it's busy then you feel rushed or unattended but that didn't happen on this occasion.

Pottery class review by Sean Wyatt-Livesley - London

Mahnoor Butt May 2023

This class was terrible. For £34 pp this class had a very limited selection of available pottery for us to paint as they had “ran out” of all of their bowls and plates. They were also out of green, yellow and blue watercolours so we were only limited to using a handful of colours. We purchased our tickets in advance and they were aware of the number of attendees so they should have ensured they stocked up on all items. The individual leading the class was also dismissive of us. Overall we had a terrible experience and would not recommend the pottery painting class to anyone.

Angela Pan Apr 2023

The teachers were very knowledgeable and kind. There were many students, which made the class busy, but the teachers were able to keep the class moving and help everyone with their pieces. They also encouraged creativity and assured that imperfections were what made a piece special - I really loved this

Astrid Hampe-Nathaniel Apr 2023

Relaxed environment, great variety of ceramics to paint, good value for money. Hen party enjoyed it!

Madeleine Sharp Apr 2023

Everyone was so nice! I went there for my birthday with a few friends and I LOVED IT. Totally recommend

Naomi Apr 2023

The class was really exciting and fun. The teacher was so informative and attentive - we learned how to shape, lifts and add texture to our clay. It was great that we could then add colour at the end and had the option to take the finished product home or (for an additional cost) leave it to be glazed in the kiln. I can’t wait to see my finished product.

The teacher was lovely, patient, informative and an overall very impressed with her expertise.

The venue was a bit cramped, would prefer if there was more space.

All materials provided were of a great standard, especially the lipstick cases!

Great value for money and would recommend the experience to everyone that likes lipstick.

Emma Ward Apr 2023

Experience was pretty fun and the pottery options were good. The the organisation of it all could have done with some improvement; the guy instructing the class let us in, got us seated, and then we were waiting for a long time before he came back to tell us what to do. Would probably do it again though! It was a nice thing to do with friends.

If I could give 0 stars out of 5 I would. I booked a class for 13 people after being told that it would be private for groups of 12 and more over two months ahead of time. We were running late, tried to call multiple times to notify them to no avail. Once we arrived we were told our "private" class had started without us as they booked another 2 people on to it. While I appreciate that we were 20 minutes late, and we would have been fine with the deduction in class time, how can a class that was meant to be private start without us? Eve, our guardian angel, helped us swap to a pottery painting class instead. However, even the materials for this class were subpar. I have used glazes for ceramics before and I've never seen such watered down paint in my life. Avoid this studio and their classes at all costs.

Yvonne Yim Feb 2023

It was very rushed factory style workshop, while the other group was in stage 2, we joined in stage 1, 3 groups per night. The place was overcrowded. I thought we’d mess around but we literally get around 5 mins hands on on the wheel, other time the instructor just did it for us. Also, I booked two spots first and the next day they told me it’s fully booked and cancelled on me. Couldn’t they just update the system?

Our pottery teacher was Cathal who was great and fixed our pottery if we made any mistakes! There were 3 parts: The turn table pottery build, the enhancements, and the painting.

The venue was easy to find. All materials are provided, however there is an additional £10 charge if you want your pot glazed which we wanted.

Pottery class review by Sobia Kazmi - London

R D Jan 2023

enjoyable event, but far too many in the class - over 20 - and that again at another table
It was hard to hear the teacher and far too noisy.
It was a pity as the idea and the location is great but just not very well organised

Maliha Bhola Jan 2023

The studio was buzzing and the class was definitely fun.

Thought it was a bit bizarre that we paid £46 for the ceramics class, but were told we'd have to pay an extra £10 if we wanted to have our piece properly baked and glazed for pick up in 2 weeks. It should've been included in the price of the class and it turned out to be much more expensive than we had budgeted for.

Our instructor also left mid-way so we didn't get a lot of direction once we were off the wheel.

Hannah Galloway Jan 2023

The venue was really easy to find and a nice big space for the class. The instructor for the pot throwing was really helpful and funny, I really enjoyed his style.
Overall it was a really fun date night!

Ceramics Workshop review by Hannah Galloway - London

Michael Leung Jan 2023

Bit rushed and classes were too big I feel. Didn't get enough time on the wheel and shaping the clay.

Belen Bittini Jan 2023

Fun concept, fun activity. Perhaps slightly crowded so everything feels rushed. Maybe because it was a weekend the staff were feeling tired but it wasn’t a very friendly environment. As I said the class it’s fun, but very rushed, for a lot of people and teachers won’t spend much time helping you

Camille Daeninck Jan 2023

The class itself seemed quite rushed, and the session had so many people that there was not enough space to personalize our piece without bumping into each other. I was also under the impression that firing was included in the cost of the class. If this additional cost could be emphasized upon signing up, it would be greatly appreciated.

George Wells Jan 2023

We had a nice time and it was good fun. We did feel like a bit of a battery chicken rather than individuals and it would've been nice to have a bit more ownership of the pots made

Brad Parrett Jan 2023

A good time with a friend or partner. The teacher was helpful and it was efficent. The studio was in an amazing location and was nice.
Scents could be more varied though as they tended to be just fruit or floral.

Olivia Hutchings Nov 2022

My friends arranged this class as a Birthday present for me and I'm so grateful, as we had such a lovely afternoon! The teacher was really nice, patient and she was able to advise my friends on lipstick colours/quantities. The venue is a cute little hidden away studio but they have so many facilities not just for lipstick making. We were given a range of materials and lipstick colours to choose from - too many if anything! My friendship group have wanted to know how to make lipstick for a long time and now we know - a natural and organic method which is even better! Great value for money and I'd definitely do this again.

Easily accessible location. Friendly and welcoming teacher. Answered all questions with no problems. Nothing was too much for her.
Room a little small if alot of people booked on the class.
Enjoyed the class and am looking at booking a different class at the same location in future.

Laura, the teacher was great. Lovely and very friendly. Good explanations. Easy to follow with the help of Laura of course.
Great tools and choice of colours.
Loved the complete experience.
I recommend to go with a friend or two.

Candle doesn’t smell at all, very expensive for what you get. Teacher was lovely but overpriced session.

Ester Diz Nov 2022

The class itself was amazing but when you sign up for it, nobody tells you that you will need to pay an extra 10 pounds if you want to take it home glazed. Also it is a bit confusing the idea of “enjoy a drink of your taste”, most of us we thought we will be provided with a drink and not that we need to bring it ourselves, what it disapointed us all.

Liam Johnson Nov 2022

Great fun and very well instructed. Loved it and we were able to get stuck in which was great fun

The space was not enough! For everyone! The teacher was good but nothing exceptional

Overall good as gift but I’ll not buy for myself

Lora was knowledgable and clear with her instructions
Venue was beautiful and a creative workshop
The materials were great, although there could have been more crystals; not all the options were there.
This was great value for money as the tutor was very knowledgeable!
I have learnt about candles temperatures and how to decorate the glass container and when to add the essential oils.

The workshop was interesting but delivery could be better. It felt rushed and could benefit from another half an hour.

Improvement ideas:

Teacher should always introduce herself to the class and do a mini ice breaker getting participants to introduce themselves, their current jobs and what they hope to achieve at the end of it.

A hand-out would have been great and discussion about next steps for people who want to progress the skill would have been of great benefit.

The teacher was very welcoming, clear, polite and gave easy instructions. The end product was really lovely and it was a fun class. The only negative was the “welcome” we got from the main studio as we were a little late. We were told you can’t go in as you are more than fifteen minutes late. We were not, I showed this on my watch and we were allowed in begrudgingly. The tutor herself was gracious and positive and welcomed us, but it was a bit of a low note to start on having traveled over an hour.

It was a great experience that we both really enjoyed, particularly the clay moulding itself. The whole thing was very therapeutic and reminded us how about the importance of creating! Thank you team!

I am happy with the result, the ingredients used are natural. Avoid if you don’t like coconut scent tho, they offered some scents to add in the lipstick, but mine still smells so much like coconut.

But the tutor is not very helpful. I was showing a photo and asking suggestions on how to mix that similar colour. And she couldn’t help.

The class is also very unorganised. It seems like they overbooked it, and the tutor couldn’t handle so many people. They first ask us to choose the mold of the lipstick, but as there are only one mold for each pattern, the table who chose first got to choose the more beautiful ones. When we started mixing colours for the lipstick, it’s also very unorganised and the waiting time was so long. We were basically sitting there for 30 mins doing nothing but waiting.

So overall, I am happy with the shade I made, it’s pigmented and long lasting, but with the much “help” from the tutor and the lesson process, it doesn’t worth the price.

Our teacher was lovely!
Unfortunately there were people on the class that hadn't booked (when we arrived there were not enough spaces for us) shame that people's bookings were not checked correctly.
We enjoyed the class but probably would have been better with the smaller number

Teacher's response

We do apologise about your experience, the ladies who caused the trouble in the class were the ones who overbooked it.

Sadly there is nothing we can do about this, but we do hope your lipsticks were great.

Don't be afraid to get in contact with the studio again and we can throw some vouchers your way

Nice helpful teachers, class size quite big which means you don't get much done in the time period. Good experience but expensive for what you get.

Remaya Adams Aug 2022

Was a lot of fun, all I could say is if you have a decent shape you are told to stop which I understand because everyone would be there forever with there own shapes but it would have been nice to have something a little different to others, then again it was the beginners one so maybe I just wanted to do more then what I bargained for, but is a brilliant place, definitely recommend as a date night.

Rita Cereskiene Aug 2022

The experience was excellent! We had a lot of fun creating our pottery however we did feel a bit rushed as the teacher did most of the making when some of us were making mistakes instead of showing us how to fix it ourselves. I did like that we we're free to make whatever thing we wanted instead of having to make a replica of something.

Jihan Mazouzi Aug 2022

I don't think it was worth the money since it was crowded and you could barely hear or follow what the teacher was saying.

Besides, I have asked several times how to dry it and the right hold for safety understanding and he completely ignored my question.

Little attention and not much space for creativity.

Simon Burton Aug 2022

This is a great class as a fun intro into pottery. The teachers are super talented and able to clearly explain each step and help everyone move from a lump of clay to a beautiful little piece (even when you're a few glasses of wine in!)

I'd highly reccomend this class

A lovely relaxing thing to do on a Saturday morning! We really enjoyed the class and are thrilled with the beautiful candles we each have to go home with .

Anees Hussain Jul 2022

I’ve been to two candle making classes and this didn’t really live up to expectations sadly. I love the concept of the flower petals and crystals, but other than that I was disappointed
1. Better equipment is desperately needed - we were using huge saucepans to pour wax into tiny jars, so of course there were a number of spillages, which presents a serious health and safety hazard.
2. The wick holder didn’t have a centralised slot, meaning everyone’s wicks were off centre. I pointed this out to the tutor but she kept silencing me by telling me “not to worry” or “it’ll be fine”. It turned out to be less than fine as no-one had a well positioned wick - all were off centre. I wish she’d addressed my concern properly, rather than being dismissive.
3. This is not a suitable class to attend in 30+ degree heat. No fans or AC. It was stifling.
4. The class was spent in total silence unless the tutor was speaking. Some relaxing background music would not have gone amiss. A more cheerful atmosphere would have made the experience more pleasant, especially as this was a birthday present for my friend.
5. The tutor seemed to lack confidence, which made everyone feel a little uneasy. She didn’t greet us at the door and introduce herself like a professional ordinarily would, so we just followed her in thinking perhaps she was just a resident of the block. In fact, it was the tutor of the pottery class in the adjoining room who welcomed us and gave an intro!

Teacher was friendly, however, we were meant to be taught about slab building and coil building, but we're only shown wheel throwing. Group was way too big for any proper tuition. We were given tiny bit of clay, and told to start with upright cylinder shape, so not many options of what to make after that. Also, all useful tools for shaping were upstairs in painting area rather than in pottery wheel area. Painting area was too messy and no proper explanation of decorating given. I was expecting something much more organised with more options to be creative. Bit disappointing.

Tomi Ojo Jun 2022

I had a great time with my bestfriend who booked this for me as a birthday treat! Will keep my review straight to the point :)

Pros:
- A fun activity to do for newbies, we personally had a great group and our instructor was very thorough and took his time with us all. I ended up with a cute little pot at the end of the spinning wheel portion of the session.
- I enjoyed being creative after our pots were made. We got to sculpt and paint our points which was nice to sit down, chat and do.

Cons:
- EXPENSIVE. You can easily go elsewhere and do the same session much cheaper.
- They DO NOT tell you that to keep your pots you either pay £5 for a brown paper bag to take it away on the day (which can easily ruin your pot as it's still drying and will get squished in transit) or you pay £10 for glazing which you roughly have to pick up within 2-4 weeks time. Furious that this is not included. It's either these two options or you opt to leave your pot at the venue to be destroyed at a later date (or sold who knows!).

Overall, I hope people read the reviews before buying these tickets. I luckily had a good experience and was able to collect my pots unlike others did (when our our pots were collected, they had told someone who also was collecting their pots that it exploded in the Kiln. They didn't offer them their money back - crazy!).

Probably won't be going back, but at least I've ticked this off my list!

Amanda Leow May 2022

Highly would not recommend for first timers. I’ve put mine in pointers so it’s easier to glance through.

Quite expensive:
• paid £76** for two
• £10 for glazing EACH

Class was rushed:
• Class was big around 16 people
• Getting the class ready took 20 mins (getting apron, getting to place) bear in mind it was a big class + instructor wasn't really present so everyone was just standing around
• Instructor started late, 10 mins basic rules and explanation
• Spent 10 mins distributing clay
(which I felt quite a waste of time, if they could have prep earlier)
• The clay spinning part was actually fun
• Total wheel time was 50 mins**

Not much time for creativity:
• Told to make a basic shape
• Told us that we will have the time to fix it in the second half of the class
• Given 15 mins for second half of the class
• Colour paint was diluted (said to not worry, colours will come out brighter when glazed)
• we were just left on our own to finish up

Collecting our artwork:
• Our artwork came out ugly and CHIPPED.
• Colours were DULL,
• Some parts smooth and shiny, other parts felt like dusty clay.
• Connecting parts were cracked lol.
( Felt that this could be prevented if the instructor could advise and guided us on the second part of the class, which we were just left on our own to finish up. )

Sadly, not the experience I was looking for as a first timer.

Should have checked their google review before visiting! If you check out other's review, the part about collecting the artwork was a hassle. While I felt it wasn't optimised, just wanted to review on the class itself! Good luck.

Ceramics Workshop review by Alexander Martin - London

Anthony Caton May 2022

Upon arriving at Token Studio, we received a luke-warm greeting and were asked to go downstairs where we met other individuals who were waiting and unsure of when things would happen next.

10 minutes later, a man (who we later found out was delivering the pottery session) muttered something down the steps towards the group, nobody understood what he said, and we got the impression that he either didn’t want to be there, or, he really couldn’t be bothered. As it was approaching 10am, maybe it was his way of signalling the class was about to start.

2 minutes later we were asked to put on some aprons and then find a throwing machine which the group did.

Once we were all were positioned around the machines the same man who muttered at the groups came and began to address the group, directing his voice towards the slab of clay he had brought, rather than looking at the group and addressing the U shaped formation of around 12 people. It was hard to understand what he was trying to say as my partner (who I brought along as a birthday present) is hard of hearing. The man continued to talk into the slab of clay, and we thought maybe he didn’t want to be there.

As the man tried to explain how we use the machines to manipulate the clay, my partner asked if he could speak up as she was hard of hearing, the man said”he’d do his best” but did nothing Meaning she missed out on the lacklustre “Direction”.

As the class went on, rather than let us get used to the feel of the clay and get into the activity, the man came around did most of the shape forming for us, rendering the activity pointless.

If your main objective was to get your hands dirty then you would have achieved that, if it was to learn something that day, you would have been disappointed.

There was no clear “this is what we will be doing next” or anything like that, just mutterings of, we’re going upstairs (again, all directed towards the group). I heard a member of the group say that “we must be painting our creations next”.

As we sat at the tables next to the paints, the man said that if we wanted to take the pieces home, it would cost £10 to blast them in the oven and for postage, but by this time we had t been able to create anything substantial and he had the audacity to asks us if we wanted to take the clay home?

Ten minutes passed since then, there was no announcement that the session was over, so I asked “Is the session over” he said yes and that was it. On the way out he didn’t even say goodbye.

This experience wasn’t fun or constructive in anyway unfortunately, and as customers we were not made to feel valued or at the bare minimum, welcomed.

Serena May 2022

We were really looking forward to this class and it started off well. When we arrived we were told we would be painting an item before moving on to the pottery wheel which was enjoyable. However, when we went to the pottery wheel section of the event it felt very rushed and unclear. There is only one teacher for about 20 people and you really don’t spend much time on the wheel. The reason this review is ‘ok’ rather than ‘good’ is because of the hidden costs. We were told there would be an additional fee of £10 to get our pieces glazed at the end of the session. This seemed very sneaky and should have been mentioned upfront! We wouldn’t return to this workshop.

Natasha Takhar May 2022

Had a fab day with my mum. Make sure you wear something light on the day, the studio gets quite hot. Venue is a bit tricky to find so go by the instruction in the email, not address on Google maps. Highly recommend!

The class was great, perhaps a bit more time would be ideal especially for beginners

Laura Previtali Mar 2022

He knew what he was talking about and he helped everyone creating something, managing the lot of us (I think the class was around 15 people?) with a steady hand.
I would've liked more time to work on my piece thought, both on the wheel and on the refining part. Adding an half an hour to the class would have made this great.
All in all, this a great place to start your ceramic journey and I highly recommend Token Studio :)

Renee Francis Mar 2022

The class itself was a good class, the teacher was very polite and informative. The room was very small not alot of room are space. Customers services was really bad I waited at the gates for around 5 minutes before anyone opened it even though a young lady just went in, has I'm bending the corner. My cousin was late 20min and wasn't allowed in even though the class started 10 minutes late. Said she's would wait for us outside, recommended by a staff to join the pottery class while waiting. without explaining she would need to pay. Until after by sending an email saying you wouldn't be able to rebook your candle making class until you pay for pottery. Which I find to be very deceitful. Has full explanation should has made be4 hand.

The teacher was great but the Manager with ginger hair (Jos) was extremely rude and racist the way he spoke to an individual for being 10 minutes late trying to find the venue. He later correspondents via email after giving verbal then blocking the recipient email address.
SMH
This is why people get hurt after work just because of their attitude at work (Were all humans), for no reason and then he mention your on camera without anyone being rude.

Camera don't stop anything no one is scared of CCTV, he was just upsetting his self.

False advertisements on the website if your not happy then your money back, is a lie this is against any consumer rights.

Don't be black and late or the Ginger hair manager will raise his voice at you with attitude.
Then we witness a few white ppl who was late, he spoke so nice to them and still except them in the class.

Class was a good taster session to see if you'd like to try out pottery in the future, but was obviously quite rushed. Seemed to get some contradictory information on what to do -- we'd follow his instructions and then he'd come over and 'fix' the shape using a completely different technique. I do also feel that for the prize, firing could have been included. It's essentially almost £40 to make a very delicate pot, and then an extra £10 to actually make it secure enough to use. And as drinks aren't included, it actually ends up being a very expensive hour and a half

Jonathan Harman Mar 2022

Ceramics Workshop review by Jonathan Harman - London

Lucas Parkins Mar 2022

Whilst a fun idea, the night came off very much as a poorly executed one. Our teacher was short and abrasive, and had very little time for any given member of the class, and then the allegedly included glazing and kiln firing turned out to cost an extra £10 on the reasonably strong ticket price. Fun, but im sure there are others offering a fuller experience.

Really lovely class although felt a little rushed due to it being the last slot of the day (8-9.30).

Would’ve loved a bit more time on the wheel but otherwise great intro and also nice to be able to pick up and recycle old pottery left behind - environmental and nice to bring back something which was better than my own creation!

The teacher was lovely.I really enjoyed this workshop but I think it would be great to do x2 lipsticks (one done with the teacher then the other one alone).
Other than that I really loved it thank you.

Susanna Zema Jan 2022

Our teacher was lovely and patient!
The venue was cool and relaxing :)
I had a really great time even if without any friend, I felt comfortable and enjoyed the session.
I would just suggest a clearer introductory overview of the making process before starting, so to feel even more ready!

I thought the class was very big, so there wasn't too much individual time to learn, but as a taster session, it was good. It would have been nice if you didn't need to pay extra for the piece you made if you wanted to carry it home in a few weeks.

Carol Jones Jan 2022

I pick up some good tips and the Tutor was very encouraging and clear in her instruction. A nice and relaxing way to spent sometime and learn some new skills

Overall, an excellent experience. The teacher was great & full of humour. The only downside I'd say is that the class was overly crowded for the room.

Lydia Crump Nov 2021

A great beginners class that was very fun and lighthearted! The teacher was funny, engaging and very helpful when we inevitably made a mess as it was our first ever go at pottery. The class was full (probably about 20 people - a mixture of couples and friendship groups) and it was a good atmosphere as everyone was having a laugh. We spent about half the time given on the potters wheel then the rest decorating our creations. There were lots of examples to inspire you and you could decorate your pots using glazes, engraving tools, and additional clay for handles etc. I felt like we had plenty of time for the activities and it wasn’t rushed at all. The location was about a 15 minute walk from London Bridge station and easy to find. I would definitely do this workshop again as my boyfriend and I really enjoyed it! Thanks for a brilliant session :)

I personally really enjoyed the workshop.
It allows you to learn a little bit more about the secret behind
successful candles.

Our Tutor was very friendly, and full of knowledge.
I had a good time learning about different types of wax, wicks, their purpose and their impact on our planet.

I would recommend it to someone who would like to learn more about the process behind candles making, or even someone who just wants to have fun during a friendly workshop, who's looking to meet amazing people while learning something new.

[AVOID AT ALL COST - THIEVES, VERBAL ABUSERS] [BE CAREFUL]

[Please also check and trust the numerous negative reviews they got on Maps!].

The staff we met at the Studio was friendly and helpful, the workshop was fun BUT then, we met the two thieves running the Studio, Joseph Spriggs (who calls himself a musician on LinkedIn, check it out) and Jing Xue.

I also added a review on Maps with snapshots and photos proving they insulted us, blackmailed us and tried to extort money from us. I'm also filing a complaint with the Metropolitan Police, and submitting a report with Trading Standards to trigger an investigation.

We (my partner and I) attended the Ceramics Workshop on September 11th (Saturday). Right after, we paid extra money (we have the receipt) to have our pots glazed and to be able to pick them up three weeks later. We ended up receiving a pick-up confirmation email telling us to come pick-up the pots any day after October 18th (more than one month after the Workshop, not three weeks as advertised on the website). We called the Studio to pick the pots up on Saturday, October 23rd, but they refused over and over again while we tried to insist. They told us that the room where the potteries are stored was locked and that they didn't have the key. Now, you have to know we came to the Studio two weeks before the call to enquire about the pots, and the person we spoke with told us that we had to wait for the confirmation email. He said he could go to the storage room (which was not locked AT ALL!) but that the pots were not made ready on the right shelf to be found quickly, and that it would take too much time to look for them. We said we understood and that we would come back after we received the confirmation email.

After I finished my call with the person at the Studio, who told me that we could come next Saturday if we sent an email ahead, I did send an email and added a comment stating we didn't appreciate to have to wait that long to pick-up our pots, and that it wasn't right to refuse to give them to us on the 23rd, like we asked. The emails that followed from hysterical Jos and Jing were filled with insults, offensive comments and exclamation points. They said that we should apologise (For what exactly? For making a complaint?) if we wanted to be able to pick-up the pots next Saturday, or we could only come on weekdays. We already explained that both my partner and I were working on weekdays and that it wouldn't be possible to come during weekdays, but they kept insulting us in the emails and wouldn't hear it.

I then replied that we would come on Saturday, as agreed with the person we spoke with, since the instructions in the pick-up confirmation email indicated it was possible. But they went ahead with FORBIDDING us to come get our pots on Saturday. We tried to reason with them by explaining that we already paid for the pots, so they have no choice but to give them since they already accepted money for them. But they kept threatening us and refusing to give us the potteries. In one email, they wrote "Don't bother coming! We will throw your pots out!".

After I insisted that coming on a Saturday was the only way for us, they replied that they will throw our pots out in a brown bag in front of the studio, on the ground at 3pm today (October 25th), and that we had to arrange a pick-up at that time. They also tried to extort money from us by saying that if we wanted them to keep them in storage it would cost us 20£ per day! If they go ahead with this latest threat, I warned them that I would lodge a formal complaint with the nearest police station. I hope they will be reasonable and give us the pots we already paid for, this Saturday (October 30th).

More information in this Twitter thread (https://twitter.com/kaylyn_noble/status/1452625477638709251?s=20), feel free to add your own experience under.

[UPDATE]
They just threw my pots out of the studio in a brown bag and sent an email admitting to it (please see snapshot of the email). I'm filing a complaint with the Metropolitan Police and will claim a refund for this. THIS IS HOW YOU WILL BE TREATED IF YOU GO TO THIS STUDIO. Check the other negative reviews!

My theory is that they take clients' money to glaze the pots, and then they find a way to refuse to give the pots once glazed. On their website, you can see that they charge the pots "left behind" (they mean stolen), 3£ for each pot they stole, and pretend they're going to "donate" it to a charity if you pay the price advertised. That's a fraudulent scheme and I would advise you distance yourself from these crooks before their unlawful activities reach you.

It was a great experience to learn how to make the ceramics and and then being able to shape and colour it.
Oy down would be the class had a large amount of people in a very tight space. Felt a uncomfortable in times of Covid and little time for questions.

The teacher was great, loved the energy and guidance! Only thing was it was a little hard to hear instructions when downstairs, as the music was quite loud and people were chatting. I also thought there might be some more spacing between the wheels for social distancing, but understand if that isn’t required anymore.
