What you'll get

An object to paint which includes glazing.
If you did wish to purchase another item to paint, this would be £5 per piece, but as mentioned previously, this does include the glazing.
This is not a taught workshop. It is a freedom session to paint. Instructions will be given regarding how the paint works but not regarding design.

I was deeply disappointed with this studio, their customer service and the quality of paints and glazing process used. Generally the place is cold and uninviting. From the outside, it looked closed as they just have the metal shutter in place of a proper entrance. Inside is not much better and lacks a warm welcome. I began to have doubts... Customer service: From the start, the customer service was appalling. The place is a ghost town and there were no staff at the entrance to warmly welcome you. Once they gave the instructions, which were rushed through, the person disappeared and then you are left to your own devices to work out what you want to do and how to use the paints. If you needed any help, you would have to find a person first! We were rushed at the end as the experience is 1.5 hours long and you are not allowed to go over the time limit or paint more pieces (lucky escape!), even though there were no other customers. Quality: The paints all seem watered down. Their colour wheel shows three levels to achieve a depth of colour, which seems unattainable when the paints seem watered down and exceptionally rough when used. Glazing process: Upon returning to collect the pieces, they seemed to be unevenly glazed, the surfaces of the pottery were rough in some places but smooth in others, and looked like the pieces were not fully glazed consistently. I could even scrape the paint off one of the mug handles which only had two coats of paint (so in theory, should have been perfectly glazed, according to the studio) but still appeared unglazed. When I emailed to complain, I was informed that it was my own fault and that we were instructed on the day to only paint two coats and instructions were on the table. First, no such instruction was given or available on the table and second, the colour wheel showed three levels of colour so that's a contradiction! They accept absolutely no liability for anything and claims it is completely the fault of the painter. And finally, this place is not suitable for anyone with mobility needs. The entrance is essentially a closed metal shutter which means you have to step over the base of the narrow door to get in and the pottery painting is located upstairs. I do not recommend this studio and I would strongly advise avoiding this place. If you want more honest reviews, check them out on Tripadvisor. I wish I had done that before booking. What a waste of a gift token.
1/5 from Channah Julien, attended Jan 2026: We arrived (admittedly late) and they checked we had a booking, and told us to go upstairs. I went up thinking staff would be upstairs, there was nobody. I put 2+2 together by observing what others were doing, and read the details on the page, so I had an idea of how it worked. We all painted multiple pieces which was difficult as the paint was watered down. Come time to wrap up, we’re told only certain things were included in the price. The website says your first piece is included in the price and anything else is £5 extra. The staff proceeded to argue with us. She insisted she spoke to us and explained but this was our first time speaking with her. We went back and forth for ages until another staff came and told her to charge us only for our extra pieces. Bad experience all around for several reasons. Save your money.

However, it’s worth noting that this isn’t really a “class” as advertised. There was no instructor or guidance, just someone to welcome us and show us to the room. If you’re expecting to learn techniques or get any teaching, you might be disappointed. I think it would be clearer to call it “Self Pottery Painting” to avoid any misunderstanding. Still, it’s a fun, laid-back activity if you’re happy to paint freely without instruction.

I have been to other pottery painting before and there were people around and who wanted to help, so just thought it was a bit bizarre. We still had fun, but wouldn’t recommend and won’t be going back.

Did I enjoy myself though? Yes, absolutely! Would I recommend it to a friend? No, I think there are far better but similar classes out there. Lovely studio though

The pottery painting was great, but the venue and set-up means I wouldn't recommend this event to others. There were lots of other people in our group which meant it was quite large and when the instructor stood at the other end of the table none of my group could hear any of the instructions. It was also hard to get to the paints and stencils as there were so many people. I've done this type of thing at other venues and found them to be a lot nicer, and a lot cheaper. This is very overpriced. Once the instructor had finished talking she disappeared and no one came back and checked in on us, so not sure what we were paying for there. The venue was really shabby, particularly the toilets. We weren't sure if there was paint on the toilet floor but lots of the group ended up with the soles of their shoes being white. The hand wash sink had old blocks of soap and rags that were soaking wet to dry your hands. Not very hygienic.

However after the outline she left for the entire session so there was zero guidance. Poor selection of things to paint- no mugs- so had paint on a previously used plate. Not worth the price and wouldnt come back.

The teacher disappeared after a really brief introduction and we didn’t see them again for the rest of the session so we couldnt ask questions. There were no mugs and the options of other things to paint was limited. I had fun with my friend anyway but was disappointed given the cost.

A few things we would point out that could be improved: - choices of pottery to paint for free were quite basic and small but the pieces you pay extra for were what you would use more (bigger bowls, teapots) they didn’t have prices on the individual items on the shelf’s for the extra payment options so I didn’t know if I’d have to pay £5 or £9. - The teacher wasn’t really a teacher she just explained what not to do so using too much paint and told us what equipment to use, but after that she pretty much disappeared for the whole sessions. It would have been nice for her to stay around so we could ask her any questions or see if we used anything correctly Other than those two points I’d say ot was really good, we had a good group of people in our class that were all friendly. It was really easy to find and there were also many other bars and cafes near by when we were waiting for our session to start.

Class started 20 minutes late and my friend had to rush to go and catch a train afterwards. Not much introduction and support to what we were meant to do: staff gave a 5 minutes explanation and then left the area where we were completely. Pottery painting was cute overall, but lack of customer service completely.

Not quite the relaxed cosy environment we were expecting. The paints seemed far too watery too, so the colours looked terrible on the pottery, no matter how many layers you added. Thankfully upstairs was slightly more peaceful than the hectic environment downstairs, so once we got started it was a nice relaxed experience. Would have been nice to have the host with us throughout to provide advice and guidance, but we were just left to it, which was both good and bad.

The area we painted in was spacious and we were provided with all pottery, glaze for painting and aprons. We were given a brief introduction on the process and the got to painting, which we all thoroughly enjoyed! Absolutely will book again!

The paints could be improved, quite messy taking them out of the big pots and onto a plate. The venue is also quite hard to find and can be missed. The address takes you somewhere else on maps. Maybe add a sign outside? We would attend another class!

The teacher was also never really present and near the table so it was difficult to find him to ask him to clarify anything if we had any questions. The paint was very watery and instructions weren't too clear.

It was a shame there weren't a great mix of paint colours and the session was advertised at the wrong time as when we all turned up it was half an hour later. But overall we enjoyed the class and think it's worth the money.

3/5 from Pablo, attended Feb 2024: The class was not what it was sold as. Firstly, there was no guidance from the teacher at all. We were expected to just crack on. Although we did overall enjoy the experience, the price doesn’t match the expectation. The woman who was in the class said we had to leave early, then said we arrived half an hour late but our booking was 7:30 and that was the time we arrived. At 8:30 she said we had to go and that the class started at 7. This created an awkward atmosphere despite us showing her our booking. So we just left. We very much enjoyed the time together doing the activity but it could benefit from more leadership from the teacher and a positive attitude.

Token Studio was created in 2012 in Fulham, London. We have been successfully running art, craft and music workshops since and have hosted thousands of exciting events like birthday parties, hen parties and corporate events. In 2019, the studio fully upgraded to a fantastic creative space located in Tower Bridge.

The studio was created by Jing, a designer with an MA from Chelsea College of Art and Design. Jing has previously worked as an associate designer with Zaha Hadid architects and also has experience working within education. She believes the combination of her industry knowledge and the use of all-natural ingredients and recyclable materials makes her workshops one of the best in the country!

Token studio's philosophy is not just limited to crafts but is also about showing others how to live more sustainably by being more creative and producing less waste. Learning fun ways of creating everyday products is an experience full of joy and inspiration that anyone can enjoy!
