  • 5/5 from Ann Thomson, attended Jul 2026: The course was excellent, for both camera and phone photographers. Learnt how to frame photos and use the lighting function, also learned how to enhance our photos after taking them. Really enjoyed it and there was the bonus of seeing round a very interesting building.
  • 5/5 from Mark Colligan, attended Mar 2026: Daniel was excellent. Very engaging and insightful. I particularly liked the calm atmosphere he created. Highly recommend.
  • 3/5 from Fiona McAuliffe, attended Mar 2026: Daniel was an enthusiastic and knowadable teacher, with a clear passion for photography. The workshop was good, with 1 hour of introducting camera settings, compostion rules and the history of photography. Then we had one hour of independent photography where we each went to the local are and tried to apply the techniques to capture photos. After that we returned to Daniel and he looked through some of our photos, then lead us around inside Summerhall to show some interesing areas for photos. I felt it would be better if Daniel had lead us as a group rather than having the independant time to capture photos. I felt a bit lost in what to look for during that time. Nevertheless, a good workshop for absolute beginners.
  • 5/5 from Gerard Dwyer, attended Dec 2025: Daniel was a really nice and professional teacher. Learnt all the basic and would love to go back to learn more! Thanks
  • 5/5 from Molly Mackay, attended Nov 2025: This was such a great class for learning the basics of photography from a true expert! Thank you to Daniel for being so so kind and helpful! We will be recommending to our friends! Thank you Daniel :)))

I have been involved in photography since I got my first camera when I was 8 years old. Then, the art high school and later the Academy of Art taught me how to best explore the 'secrets' of this medium.
I've lived in Edinburgh for almost 20 years and a big part of that was photographing the city and the rest of Scotland. I was doing it initially on negatives and then digitally.
At the beginning of 2023 I decided to return to this beautiful place called darkroom and use as little new technology as possible to blend into the red light... and so a darkroom space was created on this occasion and I am ready to share my knowledge.
''shoot, process, develop, print'' that is the motto
If you are ready to learn the secrets of taking photos on black and white film, then feel invited. During my workshops we will mainly focus on photos and images. The camera is only a tool to achieve the best possible result.
Small and medium format, large format camera, photographic emulsion, pinhole camera, Polaroid and many other interesting ways of recording images.
