2 hours Class size 1 to 6     label £68

A qualified tea ceremony master, Keiko Uchida, has been practicing the Japanese tea ceremony for 25 years. She is always willing to open her studio on Ladbroke Grove to share her knowledge and experience of the tea ceremony, matcha tea, and the whole world of Japanese culture.

In the workshop, you will learn about the history and philosophy of the Tea Ceremony. You will also use traditional Japanese equipment to make and enjoy high-grade matcha tea, along with some Japanese sweets.

The workshop lasts for two hours and has two main parts:

1. A talk by Keiko about the history of green tea and the philosophy and cultural background behind the Japanese Tea Ceremony, which can involve gardening, ceramics, textiles, architecture, calligraphy, and food, as well as tea. (Around 40 minutes)

2. The demonstration, where Keiko prepares and serves a cup of matcha tea and some sweets to each guest. She teaches guests the traditional way of serving and drinking a cup of matcha tea in public, with traditional gestures and manners. Each visitor then has the chance to take on the role of host and guest, using traditional equipment. (Around 80 minutes)
