Introduction to Green Woodworking Class

Learn woodworking skills with an expert teacher!

7 hours Class size 2 to 6     label £79

Have you always wanted to have a go at some woodworking projects but don't know where to start? This class will introduce you to the basic skills of green woodworking.

Build your confidence as you build some wood art with your experienced teacher. They are full of useful tips and tricks that will provide you with a good knowledge of how to work with wood. It's the perfect inspiration for beginners and improvers alike to get started on their own woodworking ideas.

Your teacher will help you select suitable timber and show you how to master the techniques of wood carving, cleaving and trimming. You will also learn how to shave wood on the shave horse and pole lathe.

There will be a quick break for lunch and plenty of breaks, with tea and coffee provided. We recommend you arrive about thirty minutes before the class starts to ensure everything runs smoothly.

We use only traditional hand tools such as Swedish carving axes, draw knives and froes. Health and safety talks will be included, so you know how to handle everything with care.

During this woodworking class, you will make your choice of:

  • Garden dibbers.
  • Rolling pin.
  • Baseball bat.
  • Rustic Mallet.

This makes for an excellent gift experience for those interested in wood DIY crafts and is even more fun with groups. Try it for a stag do, a team-building event or a birthday party.

Ged has been a Countryside ranger for Moray Council for 20 years. He studied forestry at Bangor University and not surprisingly he enjoys being outdoors with nature. Ged first got into green woodworking by renovating his house and garden. He built his own bespoke kitchen from wood and taught himself as he went. He enjoyed it so much he decided he'd like to teach others how to craft beautiful items from natural resources.

So what is greenwood? Ged takes freshly cut, unseasoned timber – the likes of which can end up on our winter open fires – and converts this timber into unique, functional products. To do this he uses traditional methods and tools, harking back to bye-gone days before highly mechanised machinery, for truly handcrafted and individual items.

He's a very calm and encouraging teacher and is interested in conservation, environmental issues, yoga and northern soul!
