Looking for creative gifts for mum for Christmas? Try Christmas calligraphy!
If you’re looking for gifts for mum that’ll see her through the festive season and help get her into the Christmas spirit, surprise her with a seasonal calligraphy class or a brush lettering workshop. A calligraphy class at a cosy studio in the wintertime is a lovely relaxing activity to ease yourself into the season of merriment and gifting a calligraphy workshop to your mum before the festivities really get underway will give her the chance to learn some calligraphy skills to use in her Christmas cards, gift tags and seasonal decorations. It’ll also give her a relaxing new hobby to enjoy when she needs a bit of an escape from the busy times that the Christmas period can bring.
Calligraphy classes are a fantastic gift idea, with options both online and in person across the UK, making it easy to find the perfect fit for your mum. Whether she prefers the social aspect of an in-person class, wherever she is in the country, or the cosy convenience of learning from her sofa with an online session, she'll gain valuable new skills. The workshops themselves are diverse, ranging from brush lettering and traditional pointed nib calligraphy to vibrant colour wash techniques and cool modern styles, providing plenty of opportunities to create beautiful handwritten art. Learning calligraphy is not only absorbing and soothing, but once the basics are mastered, it can turn into a comforting hobby and a wonderful creative outlet for downtime. It's truly a lovely and unique gift idea for all the creative mums out there.
I booked tickets for this workshop as a birthday gift for my friend, and we had the best time! Edlyl was a fantastic teacher and was hands-on with extra support should we need it. It was a great way to get creative and learn new skills, and we loved the fact we could bring our own food and drink to munch on. We walked away with all the tools we needed to practice more at home which was amazing too! Thank you Edlyl :) Kelsie Irvine, Festive Modern Calligraphy Class

Want to warm her heart? Make DIY soy candles with mum this Christmas
If your mum likes a cosy evening in over the winter months, treating her to a candle making class will bring some light into her life this Christmas. When it comes to presents for mum, candles are a pretty heartwarming idea - imagine her getting comfy on a chilly night and sitting with a book and her new candle. 2026 has been full of surprises so add another one to the mix and spoil your mum with a candle workshop to attend together rather than simply buying her one from a shop. Learning to create homemade candles as a pair is a lovely experience day for mum and you, and you'll both come away with some gorgeous bespoke candles to light at home during the hols.
Creating a candle that's uniquely yours is one of the joys of a candle-making class – so why not share that experience with your mum? Together, you can design bespoke candles, each infused with your favourite scents, essential oils, and personalised touches of colour and style. Perhaps you'll be drawn to fresh, fragrant notes like lavender or bergamot, or prefer the invigorating zest of grapefruit – or, for a truly festive experience, consider a Christmas-themed session, where holly, sparkles, and the warm scents of vanilla, cinnamon, and orange create a delightful holiday atmosphere. Most importantly, most of our classes use eco-friendly soy wax, ensuring a clean, toxin-free experience and a planet-friendly product. Regardless of your chosen style, you and your mum are sure to have a wonderful time crafting candles together – a truly exceptional gift for those cold winter days.
Keen to hear what our crafting community has to say? Here's a lovely review from ClassBento crafter Kirsty Loehr with her review of the candle making workshop from Charlie Doodle in Brighton:
"I bought my mum a candle making class for Christmas and we went together. It was so much fun! I didn’t expect it to be this great but it was really enjoyable and Charlie was really friendly, funny and knowledgeable. We loved it."

We attended this session as we had gifted a voucher to my mum for Mother’s Day. The teacher was great! He was really friendly and chatty, and offered us encouragement and reassurance as we worked through the painting. We really enjoyed the class! You don’t need any experience, you don’t need to make an exact replica, you just have fun with your own interpretation - it was a great mix of learning and fun. Everything was set up when we arrived. The venue was lovely, with a great selection of drinks, we’re thinking of going back for food because it smelled so good! Overall the session was fab and we’d definitely do it again and will be recommending to other people too. Niamh, Paint and Sip Class
