Whether you’re completely new to throwing or looking to refine your skills, this class is ideal for you.
In this session, you’ll master essential throwing techniques and craft your very own piece of functional art to cherish.
While the throwing process is often therapeutic, it also offers valuable lessons as you work with the spinning wheel. Beyond learning the techniques, you’ll develop the ability to adapt to changes and challenges, fostering a mindset that embraces problem-solving. At ViViVi Studio, we’re committed to providing a mindful and enriching experience, allowing you to enjoy the calm and creativity of working with your hands.
We ensure you have everything you need to bring your vision to life. As you shape the clay, you’ll experience the joy of creating something uniquely yours. ViViVi Studio provides all the materials for throwing, encouraging your personality to shine through every creative decision you make.
At the end of the class, you can decide whether you’d like to fire your best pot (1 piece per person). Your favorite piece can be glazed and fired, or you can choose the eco-friendly option to recycle it. For any additional pieces you’d like to keep, there will be a cost of £10 per piece. If you’d like your items shipped, there will be an additional £15 shipping fee, and we’ll handle the delivery to you. The firing process can take up to two months after the session. We will let you know as soon as your piece is ready for collection. (*When collecting your fired work, please bring any newspaper or bubble wrap from home to safely transport your items.)

ViViVi Studio is located by the beautiful seaside in Leith, Edinburgh. Founded by Japanese ceramicist Akiko Matsuda, the studio embarks on its journey in November 2024.
Akiko studied ceramics at Tama Art University in Tokyo. In 2017, she established her first pottery studio, Akopottery, in Tokyo, following a growing number of commissions from musicians, designers, and hair salons. She also ran weekend pottery classes, sharing her craft with a diverse community.
In 2018, Akiko moved to London after being offered a position as a ceramic resident artist and teacher at a London-based ceramics studio. During her time there, she became deeply immersed in ceramic education, leading workshops and courses at various studios while continuing to create and exhibit her own work. She hosted pop-up workshops with esteemed clients such as Soho House and Pantechnicon in London. Her professional journey has also been featured in Quartz magazine. Being part of her students' achievements and witnessing their individual creative processes became a major source of inspiration for her.
In 2023, she relocated to Scotland, setting up a studio in the Angus region to explore wood kilns and experiment with local materials.
Now, with over six years of experience, Akiko is opening her new creative space, ViViVi Studio, in Leith, Edinburgh, in November 2024.
The name “ViViVi” comes from a Japanese onomatopoeia for the sound of an electric shock—symbolizing moments of inspiration, discovery, and imagination.
ViViVi Studio creates homeware designed to bring joy and a touch of spice to everyday life. We strive to inspire “ViViVi” moments—those sparks of creativity and delight—in your daily routine. Through our workshops, we aim to unlock creativity and foster hands-on experiences for all.
