Discover the charm of cloisonné in a modern, non-fired form! In this hands-on workshop in Edinburgh, you’ll learn how to outline designs with fine wire and fill them with colourful sand — a safe, kiln-free technique suitable for beginners. Work on surfaces like glass or wood to create beautiful, practical pieces such as coasters, bookmarks, or small decorative panels.

What you’ll get:

Please note:
Your piece needs to dry naturally for about 8 hours to set properly, so it cannot be taken home on the same day. You’re welcome to arrange a convenient time to collect it afterward.
Optional UV Top Coat (£5): We offer the option of adding a UV top coat to your finished cloisonné piece for a beautiful glossy finish. This is applied by our team and takes around 3 days to complete, after which your piece will be ready for collection.

This class is great for individuals and couples as well as for a date idea, team building activity, Christmas party, birthday or hen do.

Suitable for adults, and kids (minimum 9 years old).

The lady artist was very friendly. She introduced us to the history of this art technique and explained step by step how to make our coasters. We actually plan to put ours on the wall as pictures! It’s such a lovely idea for a bridal party, or any other group of friends, to come along and spend some quality time together — or you can come on your own. I also loved the music playing in the background; it was very relaxing. After I booked the class, I received an email with the best-ever instructions, including pictures, explaining exactly how to find the building and the classroom. We travelled all the way from Newcastle. The artist also offered to post our coasters to us — all four for just £4.50 — once the finishing coat has been applied (the finishing coat is optional). We also received lovely handmade presents made by one of their artists, which we put on our tops and handbags. Such a sweet gesture! We made the best memories. Thank you very much for such a wonderful experience! ️

The teacher was very instructive, gave me a brief overview on the history of Cloisonné, then showed me the basics of how to shape the metal filament and gave me some tips & tricks to make nice angles and edges! Overall I had an amazing time and, being my first time, I think it turned out well thanks to her!

We could either pick from a catalogue of designs or make our own. We could create either a coaster or a bookmark. Directions with photos to the class location were very easy to follow. A really unusual craft but super fun!

We were able to choose from a variety of options (coaster, bookmark etc), designs (a whole binder full of beautiful ideas) and colours. We also paid extra to have it protected by a resin coating and delivered to our home (since we don't live nearby to collect the dried result in person). A lovely afternoon, very relaxing and rewarding!
