Intro to Drawing Course: Foundations

Join this six-week drawing course in London and discover the essentials of creating art! Perfect for beginners, this comprehensive workshop will guide you through the fundamental techniques of drawing, step-by-step, allowing you to build confidence and skill over time.This activity is a 6-week course, with 1 class per week, each lasting 1.5 hours, giving you a total of 9 hours of dedicated learning time. It's suitable for ages 13 and up.Here’s a peek at what you'll learn how to do each week:

• Week 1: Introduction to Drawing Tools & Line Work – You'll get an overview of essential materials like pencils, erasers, and sketchbooks. Learn basic line types such as contour and gesture, and loosen up with fun warm-up exercises like blind contour drawings.
• Week 2: Shapes and Forms – Explore how to draw using basic geometric shapes and understand how to transform 2D shapes into 3D forms like cubes, cylinders, and spheres. You'll practise drawing simple objects from observation.
• Week 3: Shading and Texture – Get to grips with the basics of light and shadow. You'll learn different shading techniques, including hatching and blending, to add depth, and discover how to create various textures such as wood and fabric.
• Week 4: Proportion and Composition – Work from reference materials, focusing on objects and still life. You'll be introduced to basic measuring techniques for proportion and learn tips for framing your subjects and composing your drawings effectively.

Week 5: Perspective Basics – An introduction to one-point perspective will show you how to draw simple spaces like rooms or streets. You’ll learn how to combine form and depth to create more realistic scenes.Week 6: Creative Project & Review – Apply all the techniques you've learned throughout the course to create a final drawing. There's an optional theme, such as a fantasy scene or your favourite object, to inspire you. The class concludes with a review session offering positive feedback on your progress.All materials needed for the course will be provided, so you just need to bring your enthusiasm! You'll gain not just technical skills but also a fresh outlook on the world around you, culminating in a finished drawing (or more!) to proudly take home.Materials Needed:
