Most people that try spoon carving enjoy it and go on to carve more spoons and other treen using the carving techniques and tools used in this full-day spoon carving workshop.

If you want to learn how to carve safely and professionally then this is the class for you. Learn from an experienced trainer how to use safe and efficient carving techniques with a variety of hand tools — an axe, a straight knife and a hook knife. A variety of each tool type is available to try and you will also learn how to keep them sharp.

Using sharp tools can be very dangerous but, by following good wood carving techniques and with regular stretching, you will learn how to carve without injuring yourself in the process. From the initial splitting of the log with an axe and on to carving finer details and decorations with knives — you'll learn and do it all!

By the end of this sometimes exhilarating and sometimes meditative woodcraft workshop, you will leave with the knowledge and confidence to carve safely at home and kick start a new hobby! You'll also get to keep your amazing handcrafted wooden spoon (made from sustainable wood) to use at home or give as a DIY gift to a loved one!

Ideal for special events and occasions from birthday parties to team building activities right through to those simply looking for fun things to do in Edinburgh with family and friends.
