We start with the basics: the simple way to thread a needle and how to sew on different types of buttons.

Simple Hand Sewing Stitches

Simple Hand Sewing Stitches

Then we will use some simple hand-sewing stitches for both embroidery (hello monograms and name tapes) and mending. Choose to make either a needle book or a pincushion to practise your new skills. All materials are included!

We’ll try both visible and invisible mending – you decide which you like best.
Bring something of your own to repair to try out your new skills right away.

Hem Your Jeans the Easy Way!

Hem Your Jeans the Easy Way

Do you want to know how to hem your jeans, but not have it look "homemade"? I'll teach you a magic stitch that's actually fun to do! Bring your own jeans, or practise on scraps in the studio.

Everyone Needs Sewing Survival Skills!
Sewing Survival Skills is all about hand sewing. I want you to be able to pick up these great skills even if you don’t own a sewing machine.
Join me on the second Saturday of the month to learn some fun, basic sewing skills. With these under your belt, you’ll never need to pay for someone else to fix your clothes!
All materials are included unless you want to bring something of your own to mend.
Here’s what else you need to know:
  • The workshop runs on the second Saturday of the month, from 1.00 – 5.00pm (sometimes we run over, so I always suggest you allow up to an extra hour).
  • Tea, coffee, water, and biscuits are provided.
  • There’s a maximum of 6 students per class. Bring a friend!
Price: £60 all-inclusive.
What you'll get
Like all the Stitch Lounge classes, we learn through projects, so you’ll go home at the end of the day with a pincushion or a needle book, and newly mended items that you bring on the day. You'll also get forever access to video lessons for everything we cover in class.
Knowledge required
This is an absolute beginner hand sewing course. You don't even need to know how to sew a button!
What to bring
Something to fix, or hem. If you don't have anything, there's plenty of practice materials in the studio.

StitchLounge.Scot is my sewing room, and a classroom. I want it to be a gathering place for people who sew, and who want to learn to sew.
StitchLounge’s vibe is “Social Sewing”, it’s a place to work at your own pace, on the projects of your choice, while enjoying the company of others who love to sew. Book into a Social Sewing Club session to see what it’s all about.
I have been sewing since I was 10 years old, and I have been teaching formally since 2012. I offer courses in Patchwork & Quilting, Sewing Survival Skills and Absolute Beginner Sewing Workshops, and Bag Making and Garment Sewing. I also teach kids to sew! Whether you are an absolute beginner or an experienced stitcher, there’s a session to suit you.
I believe that making something is the most powerful way to express ourselves. I want to help you find your craft, and your creative space. My teaching philosophy is project based, we will focus on enjoying the process and having something to show for your efforts. My goal is to foster your creativity through hands-on learning.
