Restoration London is an independent organisation that is passionate about sustainability within the clothing industry. Their focus is to reuse, recycle and upcycle existing garments and to share this skill with others so they can repair their most loved and most worn clothes.

They hold workshops around London and Thanet area, to encourage students to mend their clothes. They use all sorts of textile methods to fix, deconstruct, customise and revive clothes that you might otherwise throw into a landfill. They want to inspire people to learn a new and invaluable skill, to reconnect with textile techniques, and to use their creativity to minimise their impact on the environment.

They offer workshops for special events such as hen parties and team building events. Their in-person classes come with free tea, coffee and cake— as if learning a new skill didn't entice you enough!

The teacher was fantastic, I’ve been fascinated by sashiko and boro for a while but not particularly good at sewing - this class gave me confidence and the knowledge to go forth- wish it could have been an hour longer- but that’s not a complaint, just a wish! Thank you

This was an excellent, well run, organised workshop. Clear explanation of techniques, easy access to resources. Hannah was lovely and generated such positive enthusiasm .
A lovely group of ‘like minded’ people, gathered in a wonderful location.
What a joyful experience! I would definitely do other workshops.

This was a really enjoyable workshop with a great energy. Hannah was a wonderful teacher and by the end of the 2 hours I felt like I have enough skills to continue my project at home.

Great workshop today, the tutor was lovely, friendly, helpful & very knowledgeable. All materials were provided within the cost of the session!

Class far too large for any meaningful engagement and learning of a new skill/or improving existing skills. Teacher could not possibly provide much by way of actual information to such a large group. We were cramped and there were interruptions and noise from other users of the space

Teacher's response

Thanks for your feedback, Phillipa.

I understand that larger groups aren't always the best experience for each individual. However, I ran this workshop 3 times the previous week at the V&A museum and, in those instances, the groups were quite receptive to the larger class dynamic.

Unfortunately, as I'm the sole owner and run the workshops by myself, I'm not currently in a position to hire an assistant. But I do hope to be able to one day - especially for larger events!

I'm sorry that you were displeased with the venue environment. However the booking page does state that the location is a taproom, and we were lucky to only have a couple of other people in the room.

In any case, I do apologise if the ambient noise was distracting for you.

Regardless of group size, I always endeavour to spend time with everyone in order to demonstrate all of the techniques.

Admittedly, at 9 months pregnant, that was a bit of a challenge on this occasion!

Thanks,
Hannah

Teacher was really friendly and helpful, advising individuals on their projects and giving positive feedback.
Materials were provided.
The venue was good.
The 2 hours went quickly and I came away with new skills.

Lovely teacher + interesting technique but would have like a little more time to go through the different stitches, I suppose it was an introduction and a taster.

Great workshop. Hannah provided all the materials and showed us the techniques. Very useful skill and an opportunity for creative mending.

I really enjoyed this class! Our teacher, Hannah was lovely – very friendly and great at guiding us through the process. We learnt both Sashiko and Boro stitching and how these could be applied to individual projects. The venue was cute; quite intimate, but with plenty of space to work, well lit and not far from where I live, which was a bonus!

I brought along a pair of old jeans to repair and was very happy with the progress made during the class. All the materials were well prepared and Hannah gave me some extra bits to take away to complete my project. Would definitely recommend!
