Pattern Drafting 2 Day Workshop: Bodice and Sleeve Block

Draft your very own bodice & sleeve blocks from your measurements and fit them to perfection with expert help.

2 x 6 hours

Class size 1 to 4 (public classes), 3 to 6
  £195

Create your own perfectly fitting top & sleeve blocks in this 2 day workshop. Join us for a fun and inclusive course of pattern drafting as I guide you through the process of creating your own top blocks based on your unique measurements which you can use to make endless variations of tops & blouses. We'll then make a toile to test the fit and transfer these adjustments to your patterns. From there we'll draft a sleeve block, and finally we'll look at design adaptations so that you can move the darts, add gathers, pleats or style lines for your desired design.
In this welcoming and supportive environment, you'll learn the fundamentals of pattern drafting, from taking accurate measurements to translating them into a custom top & sleeve pattern. I will be by your side every step of the way, offering personalised guidance and tips to ensure your patterns fit like a dream.
Come as you are, bring your enthusiasm, and leave with your bespoke bodice and sleeve blocks to make perfectly fitting garments at home. Your wardrobe will thank you!
Please bear in mind for this workshop we'll be mostly standing on the first day, working at the cutting table with small parts of the day seated for sewing or breaks.
You are welcome to bring lunch (there is a fridge, microwave, cutlery and kettle available to use) or there are a large choice of cafes on Easter Road, a 2-minute walk away! Tea, coffee, and sweet snacks will be provided. You will be welcome to stay in the studio for lunch and/or return to continue your patterns at any time.

Please note: Public dates for this class require at least 3 guests to run. In the unlikely event that we don't reach this number, we may cancel the session; if that happens, we'll inform you and let you choose between a refund or reschedule, so please watch your email/SMS one day prior to the class.

  • 5/5 from Lesley Grimsdall, attended Jun 2026: I attended the second part of the Bodice and Sleeve block class yesterday - the second Sunday. Having the class on Sundays is good as there is plenty of time to concentrate and get a good fit. Jen the teacher was her usual (I’ve done the trouser course before) bright, helpful, and very knowledgeable, nothing was too much trouble. There was just three of us and Jen was able to give individual attention. Fantastic! Thanks Jen!
  • 5/5 from Cat Wicks, attended Jul 2025: This was a great class to take to dive into pattern making! The teacher, Jen, was full of good information, very patient and on the ball with helping each student at their own pace. Plenty of space and materials to work with, and a very good atmosphere. I would highly recommend!
  • 5/5 from Jade Lim Hannah, attended Jul 2025: Jen was a fantastic teacher. She was very clear with her instructions and was always on hand to help with our pattern drafting. There were 4 in the class and she floated about helping us at all stages. I really enjoyed the workshop, it was pitched at the right level and I learnt so much. I will definitely be booking into another class in the future! Thank you again!
  • 5/5 from Melissa Craik, attended Mar 2025: Jen is a brilliant teacher, I learned so much from the bodice and sleeve pattern drafting class - having used commercial patterns before but not much experience in pattern drafting, I left with so much invaluable knowledge and blocks tailored to my measurements to use in future projects. I would highly recommend to any keen sewists, thanks again Jen for a fab day!
  • 5/5 from Nora Cooke O'Dowd, attended Mar 2025: Really fab class. Learned lots to help improve my dressmaking. Class was small and Jen was very knowledgeable and approachable, giving each of us lots of one on on feedback and help.
  • 5/5 from Katherine, attended Nov 2024: Had a great time pattern drafting with Jen. It was a great environment to learn and I feel confident with the results/skills I came away with.
  • 5/5 from Nicole McIntyre, attended Nov 2024: I learned so much from Jen! Thank you so much for explaining everything thoroughly and helping me adjust the pattern to fit my body
  • 5/5 from Morag, attended Aug 2024: I had such a great day at Jen’s bodice and sleeve drafting class. She is a great teacher and I learnt so much. Nice and informal
  • 5/5 from Lee Chalmers, attended Jul 2024: This was an excellent class! I had tried to make a bodice block before but somehow never used it. I realise it’s because Jen was able to offer personal help and adjust my block to actually fit me. Jen is positive and knowledgable and we had a great laugh in the studio. The studio is a wonderful, light space with everything you need. Loads of cafes nearby for lunch. There was even a car park (with space!) right next to the front door. The class was limited to 4 people which meant we each got a personalised experience. Can’t wait to attend another class.
  • 5/5 from Plum Gray Muir, attended Jul 2024: This was a really intense class, we achieved a lot. Jen is a lovely teacher calm, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Definitely Good value for money. I should love to attend more classes by Jen.
