2.5 hours Class size 6 to 15     label £30 (£20 per class surcharge applies for private classes)

In this workshop, you will learn the art of rag rugging, a traditional technique that turns rags into beautiful, textural homewares. With a rich history and varied techniques from region to region, rag rugging is a skill that allows you to upcycle scraps into tactile pieces of art.

During this open-ended session, you will learn two versatile rag rug techniques that can be used to create wall art, homewares, brooches, and more. While completing a rag rug piece can be time-consuming, you will leave with the tools and skills necessary to finish it at your own pace. If you choose to make a brooch, you will have the satisfaction of completing it during the workshop itself.

Materials for your project will be provided, including a wide range of fabric scraps, recycled materials, colourful rope, buttons, and other unique items to make your piece truly one-of-a-kind.

Don't worry if you're new to rag rugging, as this class is designed for beginners and there will be guidance and support throughout the session. You'll feel inspired and uplifted as you learn this traditional craft and create something beautiful with your own hands.

By the end of the workshop, you will not only have gained new skills and techniques, but also a newfound appreciation for upcycling and the ability to transform scraps into treasured pieces of art or homewares.

Health and safety:
During the workshop everyone will have their own materials and tools. Sanitiser and disinfectant will be available. If you feel unwell please let Darn It! know and stay home.

Please note: This workshop needs minimum numbers to run. In the unlikely event it doesn't meet this, the workshop will be cancelled. If cancelled, a full refund will be given or an alternative date will be offered.

Travelling workshops run by Kim Searle.

All my workshops are based on encouraging sustainability, building community and supporting attendees well-being. I am passionate about ensuring craft sessions are accessible to all, providing discounts on most courses for people on low/no incomes, seeking out venues that are wheelchair accessible and ensuring that workshops are calming with more of an emphasis on enjoyment and new skills over perfection.

I also run workshops at festivals including Glastonbury, Green Man, End of the Road, Underneath the Stars, Deershed, Wychwood Cornbury, Greenbelt, Just So, Beacons, FarmFest, BeatHerder and more!

I studied BA (Hons) Textile Crafts at the University of Huddersfield, specialising in textile printing. I’ve also studied weaving, felting, bookbinding, dark room photography and fine art printing at L'Ecole des Beaux Artes at Besancon, The Academy of Design in Kuopio and Leeds University, as well as studying a range of creative techniques on a foundation course at UcCA Canterbury.
