Modern Rag Rug Techniques Workshop

Craft beautiful textile art with rag rugging.

2 hours Class size 6 to 10     label £28

Discover the art of rag rugging in our engaging workshop. Whether you're a newbie or already have some experience, this class is the perfect place for you to dive into this historic craft!

Learn two versatile rag rug techniques that can turn ordinary rags into stunning pieces of art. From wall art to homewares and brooches, the possibilities are endless. You'll get a chance to flex your creative muscles as you design a gorgeous rug with the skills you have learned from your friendly teacher.

There will be a wide range of fabric scraps, recycled materials, colourful rope, buttons and other things to choose from to make your piece unique.

This workshop will take place in Butlers at Kirkstall Forge. There's a train station on site and Kirkstall Forge wants to encourage sustainability, but if you'd like a parking space let your teacher know and they can get one arranged.

If you don't finish your piece in the class, you can take your tools and new knowledge away with you and continue rag-rugging at home!

Travelling workshops run by Kim Searle.

All my workshops are based on encouraging sustainability, building community and supporting attendees well-being. I am passionate about ensuring craft sessions are accessible to all, providing discounts on most courses for people on low/no incomes, seeking out venues that are wheelchair accessible and ensuring that workshops are calming with more of an emphasis on enjoyment and new skills over perfection.

I also run workshops at festivals including Glastonbury, Green Man, End of the Road, Underneath the Stars, Deershed, Wychwood Cornbury, Greenbelt, Just So, Beacons, FarmFest, BeatHerder and more!

I studied BA (Hons) Textile Crafts at the University of Huddersfield, specialising in textile printing. I’ve also studied weaving, felting, bookbinding, dark room photography and fine art printing at L'Ecole des Beaux Artes at Besancon, The Academy of Design in Kuopio and Leeds University, as well as studying a range of creative techniques on a foundation course at UcCA Canterbury.
