  • 5/5 from Lesley Smales, attended May 2026: I thoroughly enjoyed this course. It's such a great idea to help bridge the gap between knowing the basics of sewing and making a garment. It works really well, with Cerri explaining each stage and demonstrating, and then everyone tries it out for themselves. I am very proud of my skirt, and feel ready to take on projects on my own, can't wait! I gained a lot of sewing knowledge but also just enjoyed hanging out with the little of gang of us in the class, the place has a lovely atmosphere.
  • 5/5 from Julianna Francis-Falls, attended Jan 2026: I loved this so much, I’m genuinely sad it’s over. Cerri is a great teacher and the whole atmosphere is such a warm safe space. Met some wonderful women and learned so much fundamental sewing. I feel a lot more confident with pursuing my own projects now. It is some-what intense so prepare for a tiring day but the time flies in. Free parking is a bonus and a lovely cup of tea included.

  • 5/5 from Christie, attended Jan 2026: I attended the garment making course with Cerri over the course of two Saturdays after previously attending her level 1 and 2 workshops. I had such a great time and learnt so much. Cerri is a fantastic teacher, who is very good at breaking down each step of the process and making learning a new skill so fun. I now feel confident to start using my sewing machine on my own and it has made me excited to start the process of garment making as a hobby! Would highly recommend this course to anyone who can use the sewing machine but is unsure of where to start with garment making or if you have attended the level 1 and/or level 2 classes.
  • 5/5 from Elaine, attended Dec 2025: I attended the Intro to Garment Making Class and would highly recommend it. Cerri is a very knowledgeable and patient teacher, the studio is well equipped and in a great location. I really enjoyed the method of teaching this subject by creating a garment alongside us, and picked up so many general sewing tips and tricks along the way. I already feel more confident using my machine and trying to make the skirt again at home. I will definitely be back for more classes!
  • 5/5 from Nickie Zhang, attended Nov 2025: Really glad to be able to have 2 full days just to sew. Even though I have some sewing experience, I still learnt so much from Cerri. She’s always happy to answer any sewing related questions. The location of the class is really easy to access as well. So chuffed to have a sewing camp in the neighbourhood!
  • 5/5 from Mae Douglas, attended Nov 2025: Highly recommend this class. Cerri was a patient tutor who paced the class perfectly to suit the needs of her 3 students who all had different skill levels. A lovely and well equipped studio space. Delighted with my toile and all my newly mastered skills.

Based in the West of Edinburgh in the recently redeveloped Riverside House by Wasps Studios. *Sew Gallus* is a combination of my two favourite words, 'Sewing' of which I have 20 years experience and 'Gallus' an excellent Scots word that often describes someone that is bold, fierce or daring. Something I was called as a child and was often discouraged from being.
I’m Cerri McKenzie, I've been teaching throughout Edinburgh for nearly 5 years now, in many roles from beginners to garment making and upcycling. I've discovered a real passion for helping people on their sewing journeys and now I'm excited to be starting my own workshops.
Outwith the teaching circle I have worked doing costume/work in Tv, Film and theatre after studying Fashion technology in Glasgow in my early 20's, but my first sewing job was actually in Alterations in a Tailors shop. All of this experience I think helps to give me an edge and helps me to think on my feet helping people through their sewing journey.
Don't forget to 'Trust the Process'!
