What you'll do
In this intensive 6-hour pottery workshop (plus 2 hours of glazing), you will embark on a creative journey in designing and hand-building your very own chunky stoneware vase or bowl. During the workshop, your highly experienced teacher, Marika, will guide you with various construction techniques, impressing, embossing, and moulding an elegant Quirky Bird sitting proudly on the rim. Various hand-building skills such as slabbing, coil rolling, and joining will be explored. This workshop is aimed to stretch and challenge you while unlocking your confidence and creativity.
You do not need any experience working with clay, and your teacher will work with you every step of the way. This workshop consists of 2 parts, and you will have to come back to the studio to glaze your vase after it has been bisque-fired. A suitable glazing date will be discussed and decided upon three to four weeks after the making process.
Furthermore, you will also learn about patterns, incorporating rhythm, repetition of lines, textures, and successful composition within a design. During the two-hour glazing session, you will learn how to safely prepare your piece, painting, and mixing colours.
This project is ideal for absolute beginners and more advanced students, and you will be fully supported throughout the day.

In this wonderful workshop you will learn how to design and construct a beautiful ceramic bird made with stoneware clay. It can be filled with detailed feathers in the wings and tail. I will demonstrate a variety of ways to add delicate textures and mark-making. This bird is perfect to display in your garden or inside your home.
