Most of our workshops are led by colleagues from Hobbycraft stores across the UK, including craft experts from our Hobbycraft Artisan programme. They use their expertise in specific areas of craft to create workshops that show participants new skills and inspire future projects.

My friend and I had a wonderful hour using pouring acrylics. We have three items to pick up in a few days. Everything was supplied and we came home with a big painting kit to try at home. Beware it is very messy so take an apron or overall. Plastic gloves are provided and we got through a few pairs each. The time flew by as we were enjoying ourselves so much. Well worth the cost. Loved every minute.

Our two daughters attended this canvas printing workshop. Small groups for something like this are lovely. The teacher was great and gave very good clear instructions. There was a wide variety of paint colours and brushes. Their canvases looked lovely! The screened off area for the workshop worked really well. Would highly recommend.

Our two girls (aged 3 and 7) both really enjoyed this workshop! There were so many beads to choose from and the teacher was brilliant at explaining exactly what to do to give the best results. The clay bead rainbows look amazing!

My son really enjoyed the session. It was useful to make a basic monster first and gave him ideas of what to do and how to use the clay. He was excited to create his own ones too, even though he felt shy he really did enjoy the session.

Liz was a first class instructor, helpful and encouraging. She demonstrated the machine and it’s capabilities. Showed the how to …. then watched carefully as I tried it out.

The venue corner was perfect for quiet instruction.
My interest in using my new sewing machine was for hem alterations initially.
I was given various pieces of material to practise on which I might encounter, and the right stitch to get the best result.

Although the workshop was supposed to be card making the teacher had been given the materials to make tree decorations. We didn’t mind and Ava had great fun. This was a wonderful class, ran by a great teacher who explains things very clearly, she was warm and very helpful. The class is run in the Hobbycraft shop itself which is a great idea because I don’t need many excuses to go craft shopping I would highly recommend anybody interested in taking classes to see what is available. I was asked if I’d brought my machine to the lesson, but had an email specifically telling me not to, (the manager seemed familiar with this happening), so time was wasted setting up a machine & I was treated like a slap-dash pupil for arriving without my machine.
Perhaps the aims of my lesson, which were noted alongside my lesson booking, were not conveyed to my instructor because I was treated as a complete beginner. I was not asked what my experience level was.
I was taught how to thread a machine & bobbin, despite having said I’ve sewn several garments & already know that. I was taught the different functions of the machine until I repeated that my machine is different & asked them to stop as it was confusing me, continuing to be shown functions on an entirely different machine to mine. I said I wanted advice on sewing concealed zips better, was told everyone finds them difficult & was shown how to sew regular zips instead - that was good, though rudimentary & not what I asked for.
I didn’t feel listened to at all, & didn’t achieve what I booked my lesson for. Listening to the pupil at the beginning of the lesson, to ascertain their experience level & lesson requirements would be helpful.
The instructor was very mindful of the time, which was professional, & spent a few minutes afterwards showing me different material & zips, which was nice.
All in all, the instructor seemed very well suited to giving a beginner lesson.

Today I learned how to use a sewing machine for the first time. My teacher, Liz was amazing. Giving me full access to the machine. She provided all the materials I needed for my lesson and allowed me to take everything home. The area we used was semi private and clean. Even though her shift was over after my lesson she stayed with me to help with my purchases and answered my questions and also explained other items I may need to help with my sewing machine purchase. I will certainly make use of other 1-2-1 sessions in the future.

Had a great beginners lesson today. Teacher was patient and gave individual support as and when needed. Area was clean and tidy, a shame shoppers were able to interrupt which made it difficult for teacher.

One to one session was totally worth it and very good value for money. I came away knowing exactly what I needed to do to achieve my cushion project. I also got some really valuable general top tips from Liz who was an excellent teacher and understood what I needed. I would definitely use this service again. After not having pleasant experiences in this store before we booked for my 4 year old to paint a canvas with a little trepidation. I'm so glad we did! Steve was brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed herself and and we have booked another workshop. All the materials were provided and were of good quality and quantity. We can only hope that Steve does the next workshop we are booked on, he was excellent at thinking outside the box and really encouraged my daughters creativity!

The introduction to how to use the machine was good. An hour seemed to be enough time for a couple of demos of the actual machine. In my opinion there would have been enough time, but it took a few minutes to find the accessory for the demonstration, and then finished a few minutes early because there was another client straight after. It would be better if all accessories were at hand, and you allowed a few minutes between clients so that the full hour is given.

This was a very enjoyable workshop. There were only four of us doing it so we had enough space to work properly. Our tutor was very pleasant and explained things well. I was pleased with my creations and look forward to creating some more at home with the kit provided. Overall this experience was well worth the money.

As experienced sewers themselves, Julia and Stuart were great at giving my daughter professional advice on what she actually needed to purchase as a beginner. There was absolutely no attempt from them at pushing for big brands or more expensive items. The workshop was set up in a quite corner, everything needed was provided and Julia was great at demonstrating and teaching how to start using a sewing machine with a few different stitches. We have had a lovely afternoon with two my 2 yrs old and 4 yrs old toddlers, they are absolutely enjoying Christmas Tree Keyring craft making and drawing activities. What a lovely children's craft activity organized by Hobby Craft, Broadstairs. The teacher colleagues are absolute lovely, friendly and professional. Children had great super fun and learned creative skills. I hope this sort of activity will run often. We will attend all sessions!

We were a group of 5 friends who had a lovely workshop at the Thanet store creating our Christmas wreaths. The resources were all prepared for us and we had the opportunity to look at other completed wreaths for ideas. Instruction by our host was given but we were encouraged to come up with our own ideas. Suggestions were made and assistance given to resource items to match chosen schemes. All members of staff were lovely and very encouraging - the time just flew by! At the end of the workshop, we had 5 individually created wreaths to be proud of.

It was ok for the money and Julia was very kind in trying to make sure the adults had chairs etc. I just think that it would help for these workshops to be set up and fully resourced, with everything set out and enough chairs at the tables, before the stated starting time, as an hour is not long. I get the feeling that Julia was not experienced in delivering workshops and keeping a pace etc, but she absolutely did her best. Could she be given time to set up in advance please and provided with what she needs? I really felt for her on both days.
That said, the workshops are not expensive and the children enjoyed the crafting, thank you.

I felt for Julia, who was very kind and did her best to compensate, but she did not have enough resources for the children as the delivery had not arrived.
Fortunately my granddaughter was happy enough with the smaller cats and pumpkins and Julia really tried to make it up by giving my granddaughter some extra bits to complete her work at home. Thank you Julia.

Was all explained very well, plenty of colours and gems etc to choose from and the lovely lady went round and helped all the children.

Thoroughly enjoyed this workshop, Julia was very patient with me and extremely knowledgeable, especially when talking me through various projects using cricut design space. She answered every question I asked and made sure I understood what she meant. The learning area was lovely and light and airy and very quiet. Julia showed me various examples of what can be done using the cricut we didn't need to use the cricut machine as I was more interested in learning about design space. I will definitely be coming back for another workshop once I've practised and hopefully mastered what I have learnt today. A lovely activity, which my granddaughters thoroughly enjoyed and were very proud of what they made. The teacher was excellent, very patient and allowed them to use their own creative ideas, but also guiding them appropriately. The venue was excellent and there was plenty of room. The girls had a wide range of materials to use and learnt several skills in using them. It was excellent value for money and has inspired me to book on other courses both for them and myself.

A friend and I had a lovely lunch break at the brush lettering workshop. We were the only ones in the session so it was completely tailored to us. The teacher was clear, patient and flexible. She was especially helpful to me as a left hander, showing me different ways to approach the letters to suit my writing style. I only went in to see what machines were on sale, but both Julia and Stuart took the time to bother to talk to me and my husband about different models. My husband bought the sewing machine for my birthday and booked the lesson for a few days later. If you are going to invest in a sewing machine go and to talk to someone in hobbycraft. Not only do they have the knowledge they will talk to you. All John Lewis want to do is sell a machine and in my experience want to push you online. Absolutely brilliant. The teacher was friendly and so knowledgeable! She showed me how to use the machine and the software and also showed me around the various materials available to work with.

The workshops are a great idea and I enjoyed the hour and the teacher was good however I did expect that I would have had the opportunity to use the machine my self I understand she need to run through the basics with the app but then I expected her to select a small project where I could actually produce the project with her over seeing what I was doing unfortunately this did not happen and I never got opportunity to do anything. So I don't think I am much further forward but I will be attempting to start with cutting process this week. Fingers cross that I picked up enough from the workshop unfortunately I learn better by hands on approach. But I think the workshops are a great idea regards Jackie

My hour long sewing machine lesson was very good, I brought a new singer machine and the lesson was to show me how to use it. I only hope I can remember how to put the bobbin into the machine it seems rather complicated, I have had a singer machine for over 50 years and it finally gave up. The young lady called Julia was a very pleasant person and knew what she was doing, I only hope what she showed me is implanted in my brain.

Christmas card making with artisan Julia. She showed me how to make 3d cards, she showed me how to cut out shapes to make a 3d tree and ideas for designs and painting shapes with pens. Thank you very much! Will definitely do more classes.

Thank you so much for such a great workshop. We went to Westwood cross shop and Vicky was great. She led use really well, giving advice when asked, and showing us some great ideas for our baubles, cloches and snow globes. We were genuinely surprised how much we got in our boxes. Great value for money. I have done some more baubles at home. Great way to spend an hour, building great memories as well.

Stuart was welcoming and knowledgeable. We had communicated via e mail prior to the class so he was aware of what I wanted to look at. I wanted to learn how to use shearing elastic. I also took along another project for advice. Unfortunately, my machine would not work properly with the elastic, but Stuart gave good advice and if/when I can afford to, will look for another machine. I was a little worried about being in the middle of the shop and therefore all customers could see, but we weren’t particularly worried by anyone. A couple of people came up to ask questions, but Stuart dealt with them politely and efficiently. I had a genetic e mail from the company the previous day, reminding me NOT to bring my sewing machine. Fortunately, Stuart and I had communicated and he told me to bring it, which was correct and necessary, considering the problem I had with it whilst there. So, that would be the only thing that needs to change.

Absolutely loved the course, really enjoyable. It does really need more than one hour though. By the time everything is explained and we think about our ideas, we then need to paint the item, before we even start on the decoupage. You then end up feeling under pressure. I think the trainer felt it too, and she would have liked more time. We left with a half finished item, however we were given the knowledge on how we could complete it at home, so very happy. She was amazing and more than helpful. Definitely looking forward to my next course.

Stuart was great! Very patient and encouraging. The venue was very open and well ventilated. I was asked to bring my own sewing machine which made perfect sense. Materials were provided on the day which was very much appreciated and the tutorial was very enjoyable and value for money.

The teacher was great very helpful, polite and friendly. To be honest I was a little disappointed with the decorations given to put on the wreath, there wasn’t much. Comparing with the wreath kit you sell for £10 the only difference was a glue gun, glue sticks and little bigger wreath. For a one hour workshop I thought it was a bit over priced.

I am new to Cricut so I was relieved to have such a great tutor in Steve. The venue was nice and airy and well spaced out. Steve took me through all the basics and then performed a variety of functions that the cricut joy is able to do. He was very enthusiastic and full of great ideas, especially in the run up to Christmas. I would highly recommend his class to anyone starting from scratch. Thank you again.
