Throughout the year, Hobbycraft host a variety of workshops in stores and online, designed to give everyone the opportunity to master a new craft or refine a long-time favourite. Whether you want to enjoy crafting from the comfort of your own home or you’re looking to meet new people as you get making, these craft workshops offer something for everyone.

Most of our workshops are led by colleagues from Hobbycraft stores across the UK, including craft experts from our Hobbycraft Artisan programme. They use their expertise in specific areas of craft to create workshops that show participants new skills and inspire future projects.

Beginners crotchet with Abi was really good at the Solihull Store. The time flew and it was nice to learn in a small group. I found out how to move forward and where I was going wrong.
Really pleased I booked after years of trying to learn from a book.

We did the beginners guide to crochet, it was good but not great value for money at £22 each if the course is fully booked, as everyone needs individual help while others just sit waiting. Also because the table is located in the shop our group got interrupted by a man and his daughter wanting some crochet tips eating up a bit of our time. I think bookings of 2/3 would be great value but I left feeling a bit ripped off.

This is this the 3rd workshop I attended with my daughter at Hobbycraft Solihull. during the Easter holidays. The class was great at usual, teacher was lovely and friendly, materials provided were good too. The review lost a star only because the activity was very fiddly and not age appropriate which the teacher actually pointed out herself. It should be aimed for children 8 and over as a child younger wouldn't be able to complete it without the help of an adult.

I have never known an hour and a half to go so fast, I have picked up crocheting quite easily now, I will look at more classes to expand my knowledge!
I have tried many times to learn on YouTube or books but for me nothing beats the personal experience of a small workshop. the class was excellent value for money, I have enough supplies to carry on my project and complete another, I had material to go through afterwards to learn other techniques but I’m trying to master the basics first!

We attended the beginners guide a few months previously and found it really good. As a result booked onto the granny square session. However the instructor was not aware and started to teach us the basics again. We had the same colour wool as last time (disappointing). I’m sure had she prepared for granny squares we would have worked on thinner wool. The advert also said we would have a free blanket pattern which we never did nor did we have instructions to take home as a reminder of how to make a square. Overall very disappointing.

Venue was OK-convenient location but a table at back of shop with customers moving around us would not be my first choice. That said I would come to another class with Abbie. Possibly granny sqaures?

I'd recently learned crochet but needed to start from the beginning again, with more guidance. I found this class very helpful. The teacher was friendly and I liked her relaxed approach to crochet. I got a goody bag with all the materials I needed, that I was pleased with, and I found the seating quite comfortable. What I liked the most was being in a small class - only five of us. We were sat close to the teacher so it was easy to talk to her.

Abbie was the teacher . She was wonderful she spoke to my mom in a very nice way and was very kind polite, she answered all our questions and when we ask a question she will answer with a beautiful smile and explain to us in a very easy way

Unfortunately the young lady who lead the group was not familiar with what was needed it was felt she had been put in an awkward situation. We expected help, tips, advice in how to do it but although she tried bless her was not a pleasant experience for any of us. It was supposed to be enjoyable and a learning curve for the group in the session and for beginners. Her colleague took over the session who was understanding but did not have a clue either unfortunately but they tried. We all left early. Two of the ladies on the session said the other sessions they had attended had been good but felt this was not your usual by any means. I treated myself to the session and felt let down. I would like a refund or reshedule for a different session

Amy was absolutely amazing during this workshop! My friends and I turned up to the workshop and was instantly greeted with a smile. She was happy and enthusiastic and made the workshop very enjoyable. We were provided with everything we needed for the workshop and even given recommendations on what we could use to make our own at home.

Fantastic session, learned such a lot from Amy our instructor. All the materials were provided and we were given tips on using the left over items. The area to make the wreaths was spacious and towards the back of the shop so it felt quite private. Would definitely recommend.

I attended this workshop with 4 friends. We enjoyed it very much. The teacher was very friendly and helpful. The materials were exactly as shown on the picture and we were given any that we didn't use to take home. Our only negative would be that one hour was not enough to complete the wreath. The teacher stayed for at least another half an hour and we were allowed to stay in the store at the table. I would say that it was good value for money.

This was a gift for my crochet-mad daughter. She is self-taught so needed a little help to master reading a pattern and increasing and decreasing stitches. The teacher, Abbie, was fantastic - describing the techniques well, and being able to demonstrate as well as guiding my daughter through the stitches. We had a thoroughly pleasant hour just crafting - heaven!

It was very disappointing that when we got there, we were told that the teacher could not teach people who are left-handed and the website should of started this, which it didn't at the time of booking or any of the reminder emails

Amy explained things really well and we managed to make 3 pieces in the time, which given the course was only an hour was pretty amazing.
The kit provided was really good, with plenty of materials to take home to continue ‘playing’. Time flew by and I’m sure I missed a few tips as I was engrossed In making!
Plenty of parking and easily accessible. A good time of day to do the course too!

I really enjoyed the class. It started on time, the size was the right size of people. We got a goody bag which was nice. It went at a good pace. Pam showed us how to do the lettering then we could carry on if we wanted. She checked in loads and was happy to offer help if we needed it at any point.

David was friendly, passionate and insightful as a teacher. He openly shared his background in art, and I found him to be generous, in sharing his tips to support my painting and build encouragement.

The materials provided were fantastic, I could take away my own watercolour pad, brushes, paint set and pencil all in a carry away bag. I was impressed by the materials included and I felt the course was value for money.

I learned the steps to creating my water colour painting, starting in pencil, and then gradually adding colour, starting from light to dark. I ended the course with a painting of a bee in a field. What I liked the most about the course was the teaching, and the pace felt good as a beginner. I am happy to have found a activity that was light and could engage with my creativity. Thank you!

A really enjoyable summer holiday craft workshop for myself and my 11 year old daughter. Our instructor, Amy, could not have better! She was so lovely, knowledgeable and provided assistance, hints and tips to help us create some really stunning paint effects. Fantastic to be able to do this messy craft in a space purposefully set up for it (not my kitchen). Really nice to craft in a small group and be able to get ideas from the results of the other participants. Plenty of materials left over to do more. Thoroughly recommend!

Amy talked us through the materials and how to use them so we were helped from the start. I enjoyed learning how to make coasters and pictures by moving the paint around. The materials were good and we were on a large table together which worked well. I look forward to collecting the finished work and trying out the bag of paints etc with my granddaughter. Good value for money.

Darren was a great teacher with the experience needed to explain things really well! Made you feel really comfortable also!
Venue was at hobby-craft, It would've been good if there was a separate room but also not bad where it was.
Materials were provided, which was handy to practice at home and a lovely takeaway for after the class. I would say it was good value for money to learn some watercolour! I liked the size of the class so it was easy for the teach to come round and explain things.

I did the Beginners crochet workshop, and I found it incredibly helpful. I went in with some foundaiton knowledge which did benefit me. I felt that Abbie divived her time well across all 4 of us despite our different speeds and abilities in picking up the taught techniques.

Abbie clearly had a lot of knowledge on the subject and I was able to ask and clarify all of the things I needed to, in order to progress after the workshop.

I would recommend this to anyone considering wanting to learn crochet.

Had one to one session with Erin at the Solihull store. She checked at the outset what I wanted to gain from the workshop. I asked for a beginners guide on threading and using a sewing machine. Everything was explained clearly and well with ample time to practise. The only criticism being a noisy staff training session on the adjacent table. It was a bit of a distraction.

Vivian was great and friendly, she made my daughter feel comfortable. She gave clear instructions but also let my daughter take the lead.

There was a great range of paints available, Aliyah loved the colours. The canvas painting was great idea for us to do at birthday parties, felt inspired!

Price was a little high, £5/6 mark would be preferable. Definitely hoping to attend more craft workshops at this Hobbycraft.

This was excellent value for money. My two granddaughters, age 5 and 7, really enjoyed the workshop; one made a zebra and the other a flower. There were plenty of materials to use during the workshop and they got a 'princess' pack of Hama beads to take home. Amy was brilliant with them!

This is a review for the crown making - apologies our grandchildren did them both today and I got the reviews mixed up.
The crown making was brilliant. Once again, a with the peg dolls, this was a small group of 5 and well managed by the teacher. An excellent variety of materials for decorating were available, with plenty for everyone. The teacher was very patient. She helped as necessary but let the children work independently if they were able to do so.

The teacher was excellent, she was patient and was able to deal with a range of ages very well. All the materials were provided and the group of 5 children meant all the children got individual help. Protective aprons were provided while using the acrylic paint. Our 5 year old granddaughter said “I loved everything” while the 7 year old grandson liked the painting the best. All in all amazing value, an excellent experience and venue. I will definitely be looking to bring other grandchildren.

This was a lovely introduction to knitting! It was a gift for my 8 year old son and the teacher adapted the class to his ability and was very patient and understanding. My son got some knitting needles, yarn and an illustrated guide included. He is very proud of the little scarf he knitted for his teddy! I highly recommend this class.

Abbey was awesome. Really clear direction and instructions, really personable.
Learnt 3 stitches, and managed to do a piece of crochet.
The box of stuff given was good, two big balls of yarn and a crochet hook.
Space was light and bright, it was in the middle of the store but was still quiet, didn't feel like we were interrupted or even bothered by shoppers around us. Was a great way to spend and afternoon. Well worth the money in my opinion

We have just returned from Christmas decoration workshop in Solihull. Great!. Teacher was fun, supportive, encouraging all of which enabled my 7year old nephew to produce excellent outcomes. Amy was a fantastic teacher, she was so friendly and helpful. The class was a good amount of time. The resources were nice and there was plenty. It would have been nice to maybe also have a few red berries or dried orange slices for a bit of colour. Amy taught us about using our glue guns, how to make a bow, etc. she also gave us lots of useful crafting tips that we enjoyed. Overall it was a really great experience and I would do another workshop. I would also definitely recommend to a friend. Thanks so much Amy!

I recently purchased a sewing machine from Hobbycraft and needed help,in setting it up so booked a workshop. The help I received was beyond my expectations, the lady was very patient with me and understood I had no experience at all. She went through all the process,of setting up,the machine and guided me through it. When I came to do it myself.
I came away feeling much more confident and went home and set up my own machine whilst it was still fresh in my mind and to my surprise I did it without any problems. The workshop was excellent value for money and I would certainly recommend it especially if your new to sewing as I was.

Amy the teacher was excellent! She showed us extra things to do around Christmas time. As it was a small group there was enough space - if we had a couple more people it would have been quite tight. At the back of the shop was a nice place to have it but as it’s a busy period we did have quite a few customers asking Amy for help which was a bit disruptive.

We showed up and no one was ready for us. It wasn't until 10 minutes after the start time that we started. The person hosting unfortunately had no idea what we were meant to be making and told us to model anything we want with the clay. It sounded like Hobbycraft had not briefed her before the workshop. She'd never worked with clay before so she couldn't tell us how thick or thin to roll it and she didn't know how long the clay takes to dry (I had to look this up myself on the website). The person hosting was really lovely though and we had a nice chat, but it's not what we paid for. Our dissatisfaction is with Hobbycraft and the organisation of the workshop, and definitely not the individual running the workshop.

Amy covered a get to know your sewing machine class. It is in the open so you can get disturbed. However how Amy broke down the instruction was great. We covered every part of the machine and physically practiced sewing aswell. It was well worth the time spent and money. Would definitely recommend.

I was surprised that I was the only person attending the session but it did mean I had the teacher’s full attention, which was needed, as I found it a hard skill to master.
The kit that I was given was excellent and the teacher Pamela was very nice and very patient.

Very good value and Amy really knew her stuff with the glue gun and how to get the best out of the materials in the box. The time went so quickly and I left the store with my next project over the next few weeks.

Your supplied with all necessary equipment, so very strait forward. Very good value and helped to pass another hour or two of the long Summer holidays. Suggest you bring an apron as can get messy! The kids really enjoyed this session and had a great time, Aimee was really good with them and it was nice for them to have ideas as to what to do with the clay.
A few bits of feedback, air con was too cold for the kids, and being right by the lift made it abit annoying with people passing, and seats for the adults would be good. We also didn’t know which clay they used so that would be handy to understand. But really good session and we will book again and recommend to the school group!

I booked this course in order to improve my very "rusty" crochet skills having not picked up a crochet hook properly for over 40 years
Over the six weeks you get to try a variety of stitches for your granny squares. Each week you get the chance to work on one square during the session snd then complete another 5 during the week which gives you a chance to practice what you have learnt. In the final week you get to start putting your blanket together, it will take a bit more time to finish completely. Sarah was very patient and supportive over the weeks sharing tips other crochet skills. I have thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and am now becoming a bit of a crochet addict

I booked this workshop for my 11 year old son. He was taken through the principles of watercolour painting by Derren, who was very knowledgeable (and friendly), and gave loads of tips on techniques, as well as guiding my son through developing his painting.

My son got a travel watercolour pallet, 5 brushes, an A4 and an A6 watercolour pad in his pack.

He thoroughly enjoyed the session, and we would not hesitate to recommend this workshop.

Not very well organised & the assistant just sat painting a picture of her own, no interaction with the children at all. Picture, Paint, brushes & tray were provided…no water pot or tissue. Not great really.

My daughter (5yrs old) loved the class, she enjoyed painting her unicorn picture. We spoke to the member of staff about the paint and canvases.
Great class will definitely do it again and try someother classes as well.

Having not painted since my school days (now retired) I really enjoyed this class. Erin was very patient and explained things well. I have come away with some new skills and a picture that I am proud of Only down point, an hour wasn't really enough time, as at some points paints needed to dry before progressing to the next stage.

The woman supervising the activity was lovely; praised the children while they painted and was really happy and engaged. The set up was good, nice big table and hand-washing facilities.
Lots of choice of paints and ceramics to chose from.
Fantastic value for money, I highly recommend.

The class teacher was really, really lovely and I can't fault her In anyway however I was really disappointed with how the workshop had been organised. We were only allowed to use two colours of clay, there were no clay tools provided so we had to improvise and other than being given a photo of what we were to make no instruction was given. It was also a huge shame that my daughter was the only child that attended this particular class, I know this is no fault of HobbyCraft but maybe a mail shot to local schools about the workshops would be a huge success as parents are always looking for things to do over the holidays but wouldn't necessary think of HobbyCraft if its not somewhere they would normally visit. Overall we did have fun but we felt rather lonely and only didn't do the workshop at home because we wanted to meet others.

Children really enjoyed this workshop. The teacher was fantastic especially with my 4yr old who needed that extra attention. Everything was provided paint, canvas and brushes. At the end the kids were taken to wash there hands. I will definitely be booking them on another workshop.

Abi, our Teacher, was very patient, made sure we understood all insructions and what we should be trying to achieve, even coming to give us 'one to one' attention when it necessitated it.

My overall impression of our 'Beginners Craft Pack' was that it was very good as it included everything you would need to complete the project.

However, as a complete beginner, I felt that the instructions were a little too advanced, maybe a simplier pattern to start. As we only had an hour and half, it wasn't very much time to feel that I had completely mastered the all the stitches. Maybe a two - three hour starter class would be more beneficial.

The demonstrations that I was given were brilliant and the teacher was lovely and we had a great laugh! I’d definitely recommend to anyone and it’s definitely something I’d look at doing again! We cannot thank Pam enough for our brush letting workshop at Shirley Retail Park, Hobby Craft.
I bought this as a birthday presents for my Mum.
Pam was so friendly and ensured that we had demonstrations whenever we needed them. She was constantly talking and asking if we needed help whilst taking the class. Pam had tonnes of tips, ideas, drawings and was so chatty, helpful and friendly towards my Mum and I as first time Brush Lettering students.

By the time the hour had passed, we both felt confident and understood how to create beautiful Brush Lettering thanks to Pam.

Highly recommended. Thanks for today Pam.

The materials provided were good, the instructions should have more diagrams especially the magic circle.
There were 4 of us in the class and the teacher had to ask for another assistant to help the group which was good.
The project is too hard for absolute beginners and I feel a “Granny Square” would be a better starting project. This can then be easily reproduced and made into many items.
The bunting project is not achievable in the time.
The teacher was very patient,friendly and had alternative ways of demonstrating to suit all.
I would like to see a bookable “drop in completion class” so I could go and complete the project. I do not know if I will be able to finish the bunting by myself which is not the idea given in the class advert. So I would not book again.

Great crochet for beginners although I’m still struggling it has set me along the correct path. Very attentive and patient Teaching I am definitely not a natural hence why only ‘good’ for me but am persevering so it did spark/keep my interest. Would recommend.

The beginners guide to Cricut was exactly what I needed to help me decide to ask for one for Christmas The teacher was great and had a real enthusiasm for the product and crafting in general. The course was run by a really helpful member of staff. The wreath contents were however very underwhelming and lacked imagination. I might just as well have bought the box and made the wreath at home. I felt more could be done to make the course more interesting by adding additional items to create a better wreath. The course was expensive for what it offered.

Really enjoyed the wreath making session. I've come away with a wreath I can hang up proudly on my door.

The teacher was really friendly and made everyone feel welcome. She had some good ideas on the arrangement and finishing touches.

The kits mainly consisted of pine cones, wire berries, dried cinnamon and greenery plus some hessian. Being able to take home the mini glue gun and left over sticks at the end was a bonus.

Sara took the class today she was very patient and gave me lots of tips.I am definitely more confident with my machine after practice pieces completed and a couple of snags along the way. I can now use the needle threader, load the bobbin and deal with threads being caught.
Sara also helped me with some interface I would like to use for a project later down the line.

The Teacher showed and allowed me to practice the basics eg winding the bobbin,changing a needle. Good, clear explanations were given re extras which come with machine. Also tips were given as to when to oil, tension,stitch length.opportunity given for questions.
Erin was very pleasant, approachable and knowledgeable. Thank you Erin.
I thoroughly enjoyed the lesson and will be booking more 1 to 1 sessions.
The only bug bear is the interruptions from the public.this should not be happening as it is very disturbing.

I really enjoyed this workshop. Amy was so knowledgeable and friendly which made the experience fantastic. I was provided with all the materials and given expert tips on how to use them all and complete my advent house at home. I had chosen the blue advent theme as I wanted something a little less traditional and Amy guided me on the best use of the colours. Amy also recommended some products I could try to help enhance my advent home which was really good too. I would highly recommend a Hobbycraft workshop at Shirley with Amy. I really enjoyed this workshop - the products were packaged beautifully together and were all of an excellent quality. The layout of the workspace was thoughtfully done, with a clear screen between the two of us taking part in the workshop. The host was lovely - easy to talk to, chatty and informative regarding this craft project and other craft queries! We left with our partially decorated houses, armed with plenty of ideas and methods of how to complete them in our own time. Really looking forward to working on it!

I had Deb at the Solihull store for my one to one session, she was lovely and very welcoming! Nothing was too much trouble and she was able to answer my queries as well as give me inspiration for future projects!

Shannon was a lovely friendly tutor, who explained things clearly and simply. Unfortunately the equipment was not playing ball, and wouldn’t not work properly, but Shannon coped well and improvised as best she could.

Definitely came away feeling more confident using my Cricut machine, not feeling so overwhelmed and intimidated thanks to Shannon’s patient and clear instructions. Just hope I will remember all her tips when I’m back home.

My 6 yr old daughter loved this class. The teacher was really chatty & helpful. The children got a box of materials each & got to take the box home at the end. £15 seems quite high but to be honest the contents of the boxes must have almost cost that. Again, nice space to work in, right at the back of the shop. I would definitely recommend any of the workshops here.

The teacher was lovely & very helpful to my 6 year old daughter. Each child was supplied with their own box of materials, which they got to take home with plenty left to continue making at home. The venue is great, not cooped up, nice airy space. My daughter really enjoyed it

My six year old daughter didn’t enjoy the class, in her words ‘I love love loved it’
She enjoyed Amy teaching her how to use the paintbrush correctly and using different sized brushes for different parts of the painting.
The class was £15, which initially sounded like a lot, but this was actually incredibly good value for money. We had a private class from Amy and went home with a complete art kit- lots of paint, half a dozen brushes, a canvas painting and an art pad. It was beautifully packaged in a sealed box that we could use to carry everything home. All the kit was brand new- no sharing of left over paint.
Amy made my daughter feel happy and content in the class. She was kind and patient and informative.

This one to one session was just right for me because I needed some beginner insider knowledge to inspire me to use and benefit from my Cricut machine. The pace was perfect and focused entirely on my needs. My tutor was friendly, Covid safe aware and very knowledgable on Cricut machines and capability. Excellent value too.
