Throughout the year, Hobbycraft host a variety of workshops in stores and online, designed to give everyone the opportunity to master a new craft or refine a long-time favourite. Whether you want to enjoy crafting from the comfort of your own home or you’re looking to meet new people as you get making, these craft workshops offer something for everyone.

Most of our workshops are led by colleagues from Hobbycraft stores across the UK, including craft experts from our Hobbycraft Artisan programme. They use their expertise in specific areas of craft to create workshops that show participants new skills and inspire future projects.

I really enjoyed my beginners guide to crochet in Basingstoke. Scooby who did the session was amazing at explaining everything. Got to learn all the basics to crochet and feel really confident going forward. Good quality in the materials provided. Would definitely consider another course.

I came to this workshop knowing a bit. Scooby was able to show me the errors I was making with good humour and a gentle nature. The women I shared the class with were lovely, I particularly liked when we were all so - in the moment- we all fell silent. I’m home now and making a scarf.

I attended the Beginners crochet class on Saturday, 24th February 2024 having never ever crocheted before. Our teacher was absolutely amazing, and despite me breaking the cardinal rule (comparing my self to the others in the class), she was patient and encouraging, especially when I was disappointed that I did not achieve the last component of the class. I would definitely recommend this class and I will be booking a one-to-one.

As other reviews have said Scooby (Basingstoke) is a great teacher, very friendly and patient. I had tried at home with You Tube videos but wasn't sure. That practice though did help pull everything together with Scooby's help and we got to practice the basic stitches in the class. May well go back to do the granny square class or a 1:1 class to develop my skills further. Good value class, really enjoyed! Thanks

I’m really disappointed to be honest. Felt it was a waste of time and money. Whilst Steph was lovely she wasn’t prepared as didn’t know what we were there for and I haven’t learnt anymore than i already knew.

I was specific in my enquiry that I wanted to make wedding invitations but my daughter (who attended with me) told her more than she told us. I also said about foiling in my enquiry and was told they would be able to point me in the right direction to find the info but actually other than YouTube and Cricut Learn which I already use I didn’t get anything further. Steph hasn’t done foiling .

I’m very disappointed and no further forward in my knowledge. I fell I coujd have just continued to scroll through hours of you tube videos to get the info.

I really enjoyed the class and came away having crocheted actual rows rather than giving up. I needed someone to talk me through what I was supposed to do personally. I was able to understand what I needed to no much easier than watching videos or following written instructions. The class definitely gave me confidence to carry on. Great value for money. I absolutely loved this class - brilliant fun and Holly the teacher was amazing. She explained all the different techniques so clearly as to how to achieve different effects - and to think about colours and how they would give a different darker look if used. The paints and kit provided were brilliant value and I have lots left to play with now when I do it at home. I enjoy and do many crafts and am so happy that this class today - and my experience - means I now have another one to enjoy - can't wait to try more pouring techniques and it becoming my new latest hobby.

The class was good although I think the instructor was fairly new because she kept referring to the instructions. It would have been a good idea to let the other adults have the instructions as well.
We all managed to make something resembling the picture, although we took twice as long as the allotted time. The children really enjoyed the class and I’ll certainly keep an eye out for other classes, it was well worth the money

Lovely relaxed class. Teacher was really nice. Struggled with the wire a bit and stuck it in my thumb! Really pleased with my effort. So much better than last years rattan one. Did do my bow at home though as couldnt get to grips with the ribbon provided as it kept fraying.

I had a very enjoyable time and do recommend. It was a lovely me time doing something pleasant.

The only disappointment was there wasn’t anywhere to wash our hand ( which were covered in glue and dye from the tissue paper) . Or wet wipes provided

We spent a lovely hour learning about acrylic paint pouring and getting messy. This was our first experience of both the technique and Hobbycraft workshop and it was great fun! Holly was fab and explained each step brilliantly (as well as answering lots of questions). Everything we could have possibly needed was provided and we were given some extra bits and pieces so we can continue with our new skill at home. We have more than enough paint to keep going and Holly gave us lots of fab tips of things to try. We would both highly recommend both Holly and acrylic paint pouring!

Our lesson was with Scooby and she was wonderful. Knowledgeable, patient and friendly. She obviously loves her craft and enjoys helping people to begin their journey into crocheting.
It was exactly what I was hoping to kick-start my new hobby.
The materials supplied were plenty and of good quality, with printed information to take away too.
I felt that I would be more than welcome to return with any questions and I will hopefully book onto more workshops once I've practiced a bit.

The teacher was fantastic but there was a couple of things that would make it great. There was nothing to take the projects home in which was tricky as the projects were little and these was 5 of us. The resources seemed limited as there wasn’t enough eyes and the clay also seemed limited. Just a thought that maybe some tools and water to help when modelling as the clay was dry very quickly especially as we were sat under the air con. Saying that I would still book another workshop.

Scooby Sue was our teacher and she was superb! Very patient, great humour and paid attention to all of us individually manicure we were all happy throughout the workshop and explaining different techniques to suit individual wants. Venue was perfect for the workshop, and also allowed other customers to see and ask questions. My works was the crochet granny square and although a refresher for me was aimed at those who never did one before. The granny square is the natural next step in crochet and very versatile for many projects. As Scooby said there is no such thing as the perfect granny square and there are many variations depending on preference and her explanations and demonstrations were spot on and even suggested using a Size 4 hook instead of a Size 5 hook on blended cotton is easier to work. As to materials it was the Hobby craft Everyday Basic Cotton Blend that while very pretty I personally could not get on with but the other 2 ladies did fabulous with it. Scooby did offer to exchange it out but I declined as it was what came with the workshop.
I highly recommend this workshop as either a beginner in granny square or as a refresher course to anyone. I will book the next workshop to connect granny squares.

I have attended Beginner's Crochet Workshop and totally enjoyed it. I have no experience of needlework but Scooby- our teacher was very encouraging and patient. Very delightful person as well. We are given two balls of yarn, one needle and little booklet which covers what we are taught. Customers visiting the shop were also got curious woth our chit chat and laughter, so they cane to have a look and encouraged us. It was lovely, creative experience in whole.

It was OK but the lady teaching went quite fast and I could see we were all struggling just grasping the basics. She mentioned she was self taught and to go watch you tube videos which is great but the whole reason I came along was because I thought it would be better having some more 1 to 1 lessons. The explanations of what we were doing weren't always clear and perhaps it may have helped if we could have seen an example of what we were trying to achieve.
I did enjoy it and the lady was friendly but overall a little disappointing.

A wonderful experience for us today on our beginner's crochet workshop. Two of our group are left handed and Scooby looked after us so well, having learnt to crochet left handed. Another great colleague looked after our two right handers.

I received a lovely welcome from my tutor Rhian. She quickly put me at my ease and showed me how to use the different programmes on the sewing machine. I came away feeling much more confident in my machining skills, and Rhian even helped me to choose a pattern and material to make my first garment. I can't speak too highly of her. The Workshops are a brilliant idea, and I now intend to sign up for another skill eg; crotchet classes Thank you Hobbycraft you have one very happy customer.

Wonderful class given by Emily. Lots of different techniques and ideas taught. Very encouraging and support. Experimentation of colours was encouraged. Nice venue of first floor of shop. Offered to keep art work in the shop to dry for a few days for me to collect later in the week.

It may need slighty more than an hour (or we were a slow class).

The instructions given to make the clay figures were very clear. My son went freestyle and got creative which Scooby was fully supportive of.

This workshop was fantastic! Basingstoke Hobbycraft was a great venue, as we had plenty of room to work and you didn’t have to worry about shoppers interrupting. Scooby (our instructor) was so kind and patient with us and was able to adapt to each person’s needs throughout the workshop. The provided wool was lovely quality and nice colours.
I would recommend it to anyone considering it, as it was so much easier to learn face to face rather than through a video.

the Teacher was lovely and did her best but there were a few issues with the demo machine but that wasn't her fault. The straight stitching wasn't straight and she thought the machine's tension might have been messed up with countless people fiddling with the machine. She showed me how to do the basics to get going with the machine which is a help. I have bought the machine and I will practice myself and go back for another session when Holly has perfected some of the techniques on the machine and can show me in the second session.

Other classes ive done we could keep the materials used, which is what I thought would have been able to do with this one considering the price. I can't praise the Hobby Craft team enough. This has been great value for money, and I would highly recommend this craft class. From the moment we arrived, all staff members were helpful, enthusiastic and friendly. It was my daughters birthday and every staff member involved spoke to her and made her feel special. The team went over and beyond with a baloon, chocolates, and even a fairy cake! The craft teacher was great, the children really responded well to her instructions and she was very interactive. The craft class itself was fab with a wide selection of paints and quality materials. It was enjoyed by all.

George was great and answered my many questions clearly. She demonstrated her in-depth Cricut knowledge during our session and shared lots of useful tips. I felt inspired and went home to create my first vinyl project (taking on board her suggestions). Can't wait to try some other cricut projects now!
Also great to know I can pop into store and ask the team about any queries I might have.

The teacher was nice, the kit was lovely but we didn't have enough time. The course should be at least 1.5 hours as we didn't even finish writing out the alphabet before I had to leave at the end of the hour to get my kids from school. The workshop therefore felt rather non eventful because I could have practised the alphabet at home. It would be nice to have felt a bit more inspired. Good value for money though!

I was so pleased I signed up for this beginners crochet class to brush up on the foundation skills and get myself back into crochet having not crocheted for a few years.
At the beginning of the lesson we were welcomed by Scooby our teacher, who gave us a nice box containing 2 balls of different colour wool, a crochet hook and a crochet stitch step-by-step manual to follow. Scooby was very helpful and knowledgable and explained everything really well, including lots of easy tips and in no time we were able to produce a piece of crochet, while Scooby patiently also gave everyone one-to-one advice to help us all develop our individual skill.
Thank you very much for a very enjoyable and creative class and I’m now Looking forward to attempting my first crocheted item. I woukdn’t hesitate to re-book a Hobbycraft Skilks Class again and recommend to friends and family.

I was particularly impressed with the kit provided which gave us everything we needed to create our fillable baubles and more to continue with at home.

Would highly recommend this class for an absolute beginner like myself. Our teacher at Basingstoke was very knowledgeable, kind and helpful, she really took the time to explain and demonstrate (often more than once) how to create 3 types of stitch. The box of kit was very good value for money

Lovely lady taught us all to crochet, very helpful and on hand with any silly questions. During our class another colleague even came and asked how we were all doing and offered any help.
Everyone went away with happy our new knowledge and a box of wool and hooks to get us going.

We booked a private class for our group of friends and had a great time. Steph was brilliant, showing us what to do and hanging all our baubles to dry. She had mixed up the marbling bath before we arrived, so we could start as soon as we got our kits.
The kits had everything we needed, although it may have worked better if the colours had been stronger and included gold or silver, as they were for Christmas baubles. Although attractive, the baubles seem quite pastel for Christmas. We all felt they would need some sparkle added. We also found the plastic cups provided were rather narrow for the larger baubles, so a square tub would have worked better.
Thank you to Steph and the team at Basingstoke. We felt very welcome and loved our time there. Some of the friends had not been to the Basingstoke store before, but I'm sure they will be back again now

I was at first disappointed that our course had to change the basic design for our advent calendar - had to get that one slightly negative bit out of the way first.

However, the class was excellent, Rhian was friendly and knowledgeable, it was a relaxed atmosphere and we just had a really good time getting to grips with the basic techniques needed. All our equipment needs were met - above and beyond our expectations.
Incredibly good value for money and a such a good class. Although it would have been lovely to finish the project there and then, timewise that just wouldn’t have been feasible.

I have just returned from Hobbycraft where my son Ben participated in the beginners acrylic paint pouring workshop. It was excellent and Steph, the teacher, was very accommodating to my 12-year-old. She was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and encouraging. He was given a huge box of paints and canvases to take away with him and will spend hours enjoying this lovely craft. Thank you very much for such a great workshop.

This class was excellent value for money. My Grandchildren aged 3 & 5 loved decorating the pumpkins (and so did the adults). The member of staff was very friendly and instructed the children on how to do the decorating and was always on hand to top up the glue and help if needed. There was plenty of assorted tissue paper, bandages and eyes to choose from and the hour long session was perfect. At the end you were given a battery operated tea light to put inside your pumpkin for that finishing touch.

It was an okay activity.
No sign to show where abouts in the shop the workshop was.
No one to greet us at the entrance to the shop to explain where we should be going.
We eventually found the empty table and chairs upstairs.
The staff member taking the workshop was 5 minutes late and was very flat with not much enthusiam and she could have given much more direction to the kids when demonstrating making the clay models.

Had a very enjoyable afternoon with Lucy in Basingstoke playing with clay and making star decorations. I went with a friend and there was just the two of us on the course. The tools we were supplied with were great and we got plenty of ideas on how to use them but it was mostly about giving it a go and seeing how it turned out. Really enjoyed it and would say it’s good value for money.

Steph the teacher was fantastic! Although my youngest child (4) and eldest (9) we're freestyling their ideas, she was fantastic at showing them what to do, she was very friendly and had a great personality for dealing with members of the public. We also saw her in the shop afterwards and she certainly made our visit more enjoyable! She mentioned it was only her 3rd week working there! She's a natural!

My kids had a great time at this workshop. The group ranged from 2 to 5 year olds and they all stayed with it for a whole hour. Right at the outset, the leader acknowledged that kids this young probably wouldn't stick with sea creatures and that was fine. We had enough time and clay to make some things, photograph them and make them into something new. It's an idea to take a container to bring your creations home afterwards.

I bought this for my 6 yr old grandson. He quite enjoyed the crafting however it took only about 15 minutes for him to finish his animal and when he asked if he could do another he was told no, only one animal per child. If the teacher could sit down at the beginning and give the children a demo with some ideas it would have taken the time up a bit longer. As it was we wandered around the store and left after 30 minutes instead of the hour.

What an excellent introduction to Hobbycraft Workshops. The instructor was able to share her knowledge and sit with each of the group to ensure they were in track. My daughter by the end of the crochet session had mastered all of the stitches and was shown a few other stitches to inspire her. She has got the crochet bug thanks to the instructor. With her new skills she was happily making her own items and now ready to tackle a crochet project.

Lucy my instructor was friendly, instructive, practical and a great blend of competent and encouraging. The store was quiet and we had the abiliaty to use a number of Cricut machines. I haven’t used a sewing machine since school when I became sewing machine phobic following a bad experience with the machine ‘running away’ with me.
I’m now 65. In lockdown I was inspired by sewing Bee and bought a machine but just looked at it, too scared to touch it! It’s been in the cupboard 2 years.

When I saw your course advertise I thought I’d finally try and learn how to us it.

Ben was the trainer for this course. He was brilliant!
After this session I went home, set up my machine and proceeded to repair several dresses. My husband was amazed So was I

Looking forward to doing another course with Ben once I’ve consolidated what I’ve learnt this time.

Unfortunately the tutor had not done this class before so was unsure how to use the kit. The PVA glue supplied did not stick the felt so a hot glue gun had to be used which was not suitable for children. The instructions in the kit say things should be glued but the picture shows them being stitched. Hobbycraft need to review the quality of this kit as I think customers will be disappointed. A shame as the contents of the kit were good.

This was my second Hobbycraft workshop, and again, I really enjoyed it. It's always great to get the workshop box with everything inside that you need to get started, plus a bit more. The brush pens are very easy to use, and having example lettering on guideline paper makes trying out and learning the letters so much easier. My instructor was Lucy, who explained the technique, then demonstrated how to form each letter for me as we moved through the alphabet, patiently helping me as I tried to make my letters look like the examples. I had thought that it would be possible to learn brush lettering watching videos, but having the two way conversation with Lucy and getting feedback on my technique made such a difference. It also made the workshop fun. Thank you for all your help and tips Lucy.

This is the second time I have done this class with Ben. This time I took my own machine and I learnt a lot more. Ben is brilliant he is very patient and took the time to talk me through everything I needed to know about my machine. The area where the lesson took place was very light and airy and it was easy to concentrate. I would recommend this lesson to anyone who wants to get to know their machine and it then opens up the door to doing your own repairs or even making your own projects. Well done Hobbycraft, keep running these classes, they are reasonably price and fun to do.

Beginner’s crochet class. The teacher was very friendly and patient. She provided lots of encouragement and tips on how I can progress my skills as snd when the time is right. I was very happy with the kit provided. I think the session should have been 2 hours long as I was just getting into the swing of completing the stitches correctly when it was time to go. The fact that time flew is a good sign that I was immersed in the session

I really enjoyed my fluid art workshop at the Basingstoke store. I have never tried this before and am not very good at art, but my instructor Lucy showed me examples that she had done and explained how to use the paints and oil and what affects they would have. Lucy carefully guided me, allowing me to make my own choices and design. I am very happy with the outcome All the paints and tools I needed were included in the workshop in a starter kit and I was able to take this home at the end. Lucy also kindly offered to keep my paintings at the store while they dried so they were not spoilt on the way home. I’m looking forward to picking them up in a few days. Thank you Lucy for a wonderful afternoon.

Attending the one to one workshop was in itself a good idea. As normal I
was greeted on arrival and my tutor arrived quickly after an in house call.
The actual place of tutoring is not good. Nearing eighty I was not impressed
at having to stand whilst the info was explained. Luckily for me Ben quickly
assessed the situation and found a chair but then I was much lower than the counter and unable to see the workings. Talking through my expectations, the machine etc it quickly became apparent that the Cricut
was not suitable for me. The manager and Ben resolved the situation
without any angst for which I am most grateful. In closing I would say that
I have always found the staff at Hobbycraft Basingstoke willing, happy and
informative and always look forward to my visits to the store.

The workshop was excellent. I was very lucky to be on my own with the tutor -so had plenty of time to chat and learn. The tutor (Sue M) was very knowledgeable and patient. I was very very pleased with the workshop and Sue was first class. Would recommend this course to others.

Ben was absolutely brilliant, he really knew his stuff. I have had a sewing machine for a few years and it has never come out of the box so I thought it was time to learn. He made me feel relaxed and I really enjoyed the session. I learnt a lot and every question I asked was answered in detail and simple easy language. He is a real credit to your store and I look forward to coming back for a refresher when i have tried out my own machine at home. I would recommend this session to anyone wanting to learn the basics of using a sewing machine.

I had never crochet before, so definitely a beginner.
I found it rather hard to pickup. There were only 3 in the group but one had a lot of experience and therefore picked up the pattern very easily.

I think the classes should be separated into total beginners etc.
Overall the instructor was very patient and friendly.

Tutor was very good but I didn’t feel the class was long enough. Expensive for 1 hour. All items included were great I just think we needed 2 hours to get more done. The price at £25 for 2 hours would be more acceptable.

My friend & I really enjoyed the class. The teacher was great & very helpful. The only aspect not so good bit was the venue as the original table layout was not the best for the current COVID situation but the teacher did a rearrange and made things better. Thank you for a fab course.

Teacher was great. We loved it. I had missing items but teacher went and fetched spares. Some items were too big to fit inside the baubles. Otherwise we loved every minute and it was good value.

This course was fantastic. Our teacher Ellie was brilliant as we worked our way through the gorgeous materials provided. We even got to take them home.
By the end of the hour session I was able to create beautiful joined brush lettering.
I am going to continue practicing this.

Ref cricut training.
1/ Fran was very good explaining how to use the explore 2 making sure my mother could understand the basics of the machine. Demonstrating the use of plain coloured card / glitter card / vinyl/ also the choices of designs on the machine supplied by cricut programme.
Mum was happy to purchase the explore 2 &l looking forward to start making her Christmas cards

Our tutor was great and really patient with two inexperienced card makers. We had a great time and came away with some lovely Christmas cards and some new skills. Only criticism was 1 hour was too short to make 3 cards, 2 hours would have been better.

Gave the kids something to do. Price was £4 but they were each given a ceramic item with a £2 sticker on it which already came with paints, so not particularly good value for money. There was nothing extra and nothing to learn, so theoretically it could have been done cheaper at home. I guess it saves any mess at home. Ellie, the staff member was lovely and chatted to the kids throughout.

It was a really good workshop, I needed a one to one to explain the differences between the machines, on how to cut out on different materials etc. She explained things well. Very happy on the experience. And at the end another lady came up and asked about how to cut and weald onto a heart, so I watched that as well.

The one to one session was worth every penny. The member of staff was knowledgable and keen to help me master my machine. She was well prepared for the session for she had previously checked what I had identified as the areas I wanted to learn about and asked me if there was any change from what I had identified. Every minute of the hour was spent teaching me. I would definitely recommend it and may book again if I find I need additional help in the future.

We were very lucky to have Holly at to ourselves as only my daughter signed up for the course on this occasion. She was friendly and patient. My daughter has since been working on her cross stich at home. Only downside was teacher not licenced for me to leave my daughter with her whilst I shopped in store for gifts I didn't want my daughter to see.

We had a really good time.sue who took our class was so good at teaching my daughter how to cross stitch and went into great detail.the cross stitch picture was quite complicated for a child but my daughter will continue to work on this at home.sue explained the techniques really well so she has been able to carry on with her picture this afternoon.
We would definitely take another class with sue again and have booked the crochet class next week
