Fun Painting Kits for Adults in Quarantine

Fun Painting Kits for Adults in Quarantine

By Caitlin Milne

If you didn’t know already, painting is great for your mental health and wellbeing, so why not paint and sip in the comfort of your own home, with a beverage of your choice? Painting kits are the perfect way to start painting, and if you’re quarantining they can be delivered straight to your door, while you watch a painting class online. If you’re looking for what to do when bored at home, sit back, relax and get all the materials you need from the physical classes delivered to your door, without having to go outside.

Now that we are indoors more than ever, or having to isolate, this can be challenging and take its toll on your mental health. If you’re struggling to be productive, or looking for fun things to do in quarantine, and feel like you’re going a little stir crazy (we can relate!), consider painting kits and make the monotonous feelings of being stuck indoors vanish.

There’s only so much time you can spend catching up on TV, watching movies, reading or scrolling social media before you need something else to entertain yourself. Painting is a fun way to express yourself, be creative and help pass time more quickly.

The creative impulse is fundamental to the experience of being human. We have been painting since prehistoric times, so there must be something pretty special about it! Arguably, it’s in our blood. It’s therapeutic and doesn’t need to have a purpose, but can simply be one of many fun indoor activities to try. The act of creation, and our appreciation of it, can positively impact our mental health and wellbeing. Reconnect with your creative instinct, and grab yourself a painting kit.

Paint and sip kits for beginners

You don’t need to worry about whether you’re good at painting or not. Our painting kits are for beginners and all levels alike! Remember, contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to be good at something to enjoy it. It’s more about the process than the end product. Who knows with practice and help from our expert teachers, you could be the next Van Gogh or Picasso.

Or if that’s a stretch for you, you might find yourself enjoying a new hobby, or feeling more stimulated. Pour yourself a glass of wine, and let loose, it doesn’t have to be messy but if it is, who cares, it’s abstract art, no? If Shakespeare wrote King Lear in quarantine during the plague, you can definitely create your own masterpiece and unleash the inner creativity you buried or didn’t know you had!

You can even link up with your friends and paint and sip at home together, enjoying virtual drinks and painting, whilst still practising social distancing. It’s important to stay connected and keep in touch, despite not being able to see each other. Or if you need fun isolation date ideas this is perfect, spending valuable time together, even when you’re apart is essential, especially now.

After your live online class, admire your stunning work, even frame it and place it somewhere to show off to your friends once isolation is over!

How painting improves wellbeing

Painting is therapeutic and allows self-expression, by communicating your emotions and feelings in a creative way, you learn the ability to express yourself without words. Physically, it can aid your hand-eye coordination, neural development like problem-solving, mobility and motor skills. Painting also encourages you to think creatively, there is no one right way to paint, so express your ideas any way you like. There’s no pressure!

Creative thinking is a skill everyone should hone in on, as it can make us consider the world in new ways, and help us see the world in a new light. Let painting kits inspire you, and develop yourself mentally, socially and emotionally. It’s the perfect way to alleviate built-up stress and anxiety. The more you do it, the more self-confident you will become, and improve your quality of life.

A calming, soothing activity, painting is a sure way to relieve stress and practice mindfulness. Painting is a sensory experience and therefore makes us present in the moment, alleviating potential stress or any negative thoughts. Paint and sip kits employ all senses: sight, sound, touch, smell and taste. The process of creating is more important than the product. Art is inherently valuable and vital as a source of inspiration, beauty and expression, whilst being fun and engaging.

Painting plays an important and innovative role in promoting wellbeing. Experimenting with paint and sip at home kits, alone or with others, can create a feeling of community with your local art scene. It supports your local art community and helps promote wellness activities. By getting involved, you can rebuild or extend your social connections. Being in touch with others alleviates loneliness, which can be a prevalent feeling in quarantine, and improves your mood and wellbeing. It can boost our confidence and help us feel more socially or generally engaged and resilient.

There’s a reason why painting is fast becoming a non-medical, future health practice and a prescribed approach to preventing mental health problems. Arguably, the UK has not yet fully realised the potential art has in aiding medical practices. Art can also help save the care sector’s money, but more importantly, is an affordable way to improve your mental health.

Painting can be a healing tool, enabling you to take greater responsibility for your own health and is a sustained way to improve wellbeing. It can make you more independent, and curious as to how to improve the quality of your life by bringing greater joy to it. It’s more than just things to make at home, it’s an aesthetic experience!

Painting, like most art, also has a powerful impact on our environment, and how we experience it. After your DIY paint and sip class, enliven and make your space more stimulating, transform an area that was once dull, and make it colourful and bright. Beautifying and embellishing our environment with paintings can inspire us to be more productive and even make us feel brighter day to day.

Physical involvement and participation in painting and the arts are just as effective as being in an environment that has art on display. It’s instrumental to your mental health! Make art one of your five a day, and make a start with painting kits. Free the creative side of you that you locked away for good, and see everyday improvements in your wellbeing.
