A brand new course on Pattern Drafting for Design & Fit, focusing on tops & dresses.
Bring your personalised bodice & sleeve block patterns or a commercial top or dress pattern that you want to adapt the fit or design of, and I will take you through the steps of making it into the design you're dreaming of.
As a class, we'll look at different techniques depending on the goals of the group like adding pleats, gathers, different necklines adding a collar and moving darts. You'll then apply these techniques to your patterns ready to toile at home (or in the studio if time allows) to make sure they're just right.
A perfect design to focus on might be for example taking your basic block or pattern and adding a collar, cuffs and button stand. Or maybe you want to perfect the fit and then move the darts into different positions or into a princess seam.
Please let me know your preferred goals when booking or in the weeks in advance of the start date so that I can prepare accordingly!
What you'll get
  • Pattern paper and specialised tools needed to draft your patterns.
  • Reclaimed fabrics to toile your new patterns if you wish.
Knowledge required
Experience using commercial patterns will be the perfect starting point for this class.
Students should also know how to use a sewing machine.
What to bring
  • Your personalised bodice and blocks or a commercial pattern that you'd like to change the fit or design of.
  • A toile or garment made from these patterns that has not been washed multiple times.
*Please Note* You will need a block or patterns as a starting point for this class, if you would like to make a personalised bodice and sleeve block please attend the Fully Day Workshop or 5 Week Course to cover this in advance.
