Meet Your Tutor
David Harvey
I'm David Harvey, a watercolour artist and online tutor based in the UK. I've created these workshops to share my love of watercolour in a relaxed and encouraging environment. Over the years I've discovered that people often learn best when they're given the freedom to experiment, make mistakes and discover their own way of painting. That's why my online workshops are friendly, informal and suitable for artists of all abilities.
"I'm tickled that you chose to paint my photo. I also enjoyed watching you on YouTube. You do wonderful work and make it look effortless. "

  • 5/5 from Faye Crawford, attended Sep 2024: I really enjoyed this class, it was very relaxed and I learned a lot from watching Dave complete his painting as well as the tips and advice. I will be joining again when I can. There was no pressure to do things a certain way or get things right.
  • 5/5 from Pamela Alliband, attended Apr 2024: Absolutely brilliant class for what I needed. Different levels of expertise of the members. Dave is so calm and measured in the way he shows you how to do each weeks painting, and then follows it with the recoded lesson on video that can be followed at your own pace. I am an absolute beginner but don't feel out of my depth or judged for my lack of knowledge and experience.
  • 5/5 from Alison Simpson, attended Mar 2024: What a privilege to see a painting come to life! Was a great interactive session when I felt comfortable to ask questions. Helpful techniques were shared and demonstrated - thank you fir being so aspiring David.
  • 5/5 from Marian Lamport, attended Feb 2024: Really enjoyed the session and painting the emu. Teacher explained clearly and recording was invaluable.
  • 5/5 from Jackie Wright, attended Oct 2023: David Harvey is an excellent teacher and very encouraging especially as I am a beginner!
  • 5/5 from Gemma Clarke, attended Jan 2023: Very good class. Really helpful teacher. I learnt a lot about watercolour painting and techniques.

A Somerset lad, but most of my life in Christchurch, Dorset. always had a passion for painting and drawing although no formal training, trained as a printer as his career when leaving school - as such went to severel art colleges for City and Guilds training so always in contact with Arty stuff. My artistic interest continued during the years as a printer and later retrained with a BSc (Hons) in Computing.
Originally inspired and encoraged by local artists Alan & John Hayden, Derek Herdson and Christopher Hollick my work reflects this, containing many paintings of Mudeford Quay, Christchurch Harbour and the surrounding landscape. Although the subject matter did and still does overlap the execution is totally different.
I like to say traditional paintings with a contemporaty twist.
