One-to-one Sewing Workshop

Join us in store and talk to a craft expert for tips and advice on your sewing machine or project!

1 hour Class size 1 on 1       £28

Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Gemma Colley, attended Sep 2026: I went to a 121 class this morning with Jo. It was absolutely brilliant. She went over all the basics with me of how to start by setting up your machine and winding up you bobbins etc. She then went over all the types of stitches with me and made sure I knew what I was doing. She is a great teacher and was very clear and made sure that I undressed everything. I would definitely recommend doing this class with her. It has definitely made me feel more confident to now startvusing my own machine. Thanks so much for a wonderful experience!

  • 5/5 from Sarah McAnaw, attended Jul 2026: I had a sewing machine lesson with Jo today and it was fantastic, she helped me with the bobbin issue I had with my machine and we then went on to practice setting up and using the machine, she showed me different stitches and the whole thing was so enjoyable, it was well worth the money I learned so much.

  • 5/5 from Lauren Manister, attended Apr 2026: There was some slight confusion as one member of staff said to me ‘we’ve only got one lesson booked today and that’s taking place now’ and I had to show my booking to confirm. The lesson took place and Jo was fantastic. She really took the time to go through my questions, we had good conversation about our hobbies and current projects and Jo took the time after the lesson to show me what items I may need for my next project. I would recommend but just have your booking to handy!

  • 3/5 from Sarah Bailey, attended Feb 2024: Unfortunately the lady taking the class hadn't been told that I wanted to know about embroidery machines. So we had to set up a different machine that neither of us knew anything about or how to work it, so I didn't actually get to do any embroidery on the machine at all. The lady was doing all she could to help just disappointed that she wasn't told what I wanted to do, which I requested when I paid for the lesson.

We also had time to discuss the little projects that i wanted to start with. Afterwards i was more than confident to get home set the machine up and start sewing! Would definitely recommend and i will be looking out for more classes.
  • 5/5 from Hayley, attended Sep 2023: I booked a one to one sewing session for my daughter (under 16 years old) because I bought her a sewing machine for her birthday. Both my daughter and I have never used a sewing machine before. We asked for help to learn how to set up a sewing machine. My daughter was taught how to change the needle, set up and transfer thread onto a bobbin, how and were to place the bobbin and even had time to learn the basic stitches. The instructor who took the class was brilliant, patient, kind and demonstrated things really well getting my daughter to give it ago herself to check she understood what to do. If my daughter got stuck the instructor just showed her again. I would highly recommend this instructor she was fantastic. She gave my daughter a test sheet to practice on as well which I thought was really nice because we get to keep her very first stitches. Whether it's your first time using a sewing machine or you need guidance with a project like with a pattern I would highly recommend these one to one classes. I have already booked another.
  • 5/5 from Talia Lieberman, attended Aug 2023: Such an enjoyable class, Jo was extremely kind and patient and made the hour go by very quickly. We would love to see classes like felting in the shop soon!
