Throughout the year, Hobbycraft host a variety of workshops in stores and online, designed to give everyone the opportunity to master a new craft or refine a long-time favourite. Whether you want to enjoy crafting from the comfort of your own home or you’re looking to meet new people as you get making, these craft workshops offer something for everyone.

Most of our workshops are led by colleagues from Hobbycraft stores across the UK, including craft experts from our Hobbycraft Artisan programme. They use their expertise in specific areas of craft to create workshops that show participants new skills and inspire future projects.

Jo my teacher was great, very friendly and helpful, nothing was to much trouble for her. She taught me how to thread the cotton through the machine. How to wind a bobbin full, then how to insert it, and finally how to marry the bobbin cotton to the upper cotton..
Jo spoke very clearly and nothing was any trouble for her, she was a great help.
I sewed on practice material completing the lines and circle.
Jo also helped me to repair my deceased mums apron, I was very grateful as it means such a lot to me.
The class was good value for the money. Overall I enjoyed Jos helpfulness, she has given me the confidence to try and tackle more on my machine at home.
The venue was great, with plenty of parking. I would consider another class with Jo at another time.

Having brought my first sewing machine this lesson was perfect. The trainer Jo was very knowledgeable, adjusted her teaching pace to suit my needs, Jo started at the very beginning and taught me how to thread the machine and start to sew my fist stitches, we then moved on to a sample piece of fabric. Once done we the walked round the store and I was shown where various items were that I might need. I didn’t feel rushed into anything and was encouraged to set the pace of my learning. I would definitely recommend this experience and will be back for another lesson. Thanks Jo.

Cath the teacher is so good. We also had her at the pumpkin making class last Halloween. She is so good with the children and explains everything so well. My grandddaughter Cece who is 4 at the end of the month absolutely loved the session. Great value for money and all materials supplied.

An enjoyable session with only 3 children. Due to this they made 2 little models each. We were told it's normally only 1. I feel the photos shown when booking the class are misleading, as they show a boy holding 2 models. Thankfully it worked out well for us. It was worth the money for 2 models but wouldn't have been for 1.

I went along to this workshop to find out more about the Cricut machines and how it works. My teacher Cat was absolutely lovely. She showed me exactly how the machine worked on different materials and vinyls. She explained everything clearly and at my pace. It was great to experience how the machine and software worked before you buy. The whole hour was great value for money and Cat made it so enjoyable.

Unfortunately the lady taking the class hadn't been told that I wanted to know about embroidery machines. So we had to set up a different machine that neither of us knew anything about or how to work it, so I didn't actually get to do any embroidery on the machine at all. The lady was doing all she could to help just disappointed that she wasn't told what I wanted to do, which I requested when I paid for the lesson.

Cat was amazing and lovely and ran through all the program and how to use the printer etc
I was told before the class the machine wasn't working properly but I still wanted to do the class, which was amazing the only thing we couldn't do was a print out, so Cat still done a similar project on heat cup so I had a souvenir and that taught me even more very happy

Booked this for my teens to do as a start to the Christmas build up and they both really enjoyed making up their bags. The teacher provided some ideas and was happy to go and get different things from the store to help as templates!

One thing missing from the workshop information is informing those attending that they won't get to take a POSCA pen away with them. Having done previous workshops where everything is provided and what you don't use you can take away with you I did think they would take one pen home along with the unfinished bags. Not a problem for us as we have some at home but would be good to know beforehand

I wasn’t very impressed with the class at Southend. We have done classes at Basildon and found it so much better. The work area was very small in the middle of the shop and barely enough space to sit and help the children. Also, the children weren’t allowed to use the toilets at Southend whereas they were at the Basildon store. Finally, in Basildon you were given a box to take your art work home whereas at Southend you just had to hold the wet christmas baubles as they were. Wouldn’t return to this store for any more workshops.

The teacher was lovely and the actual class was great! However, near to the end of the class another class was booked right after us. So the other class didn't start late, we then had about 5 people watching us finish our wreaths, which meant we were trying to rush. Was a bit disappointed by the lack of planning from customer services.

Today I attended a two hour one to one class and learnt so much about the machine, design space and materials.

Gave clear well paced instructions, friendly, helpful and showed understanding and willingness to adjust to accommodate my poor hearing. Venue and craft studio was the perfect size for the 5 participants in the class. The resources provided were perfect for the craft we made and some were used in creative ways which were new to me so was very interesting! The teacher was pleasant and led us through the craft as we each individually reached the next point. Overall value was very good! I’m very pleased my friends and I bought this workshop

Had a great time the tutor was very informative and very good and a really nice person that made you feel very comfortable learning something new . felt I came away with lots of confidence and ready to have a go on my own which in an hour was a great achievement. Would definitely recommend trying a lesson took a friend for an extra £5 which is great value and we both are going to have a practice with what we learnt today and plan to book a couple more sessions in the near future

We also had time to discuss the little projects that i wanted to start with. Afterwards i was more than confident to get home set the machine up and start sewing! I booked a one to one sewing session for my daughter (under 16 years old) because I bought her a sewing machine for her birthday. Both my daughter and I have never used a sewing machine before. We asked for help to learn how to set up a sewing machine. My daughter was taught how to change the needle, set up and transfer thread onto a bobbin, how and were to place the bobbin and even had time to learn the basic stitches. The instructor who took the class was brilliant, patient, kind and demonstrated things really well getting my daughter to give it ago herself to check she understood what to do. If my daughter got stuck the instructor just showed her again.
I would highly recommend this instructor she was fantastic. She gave my daughter a test sheet to practice on as well which I thought was really nice because we get to keep her very first stitches. Whether it's your first time using a sewing machine or you need guidance with a project like with a pattern I would highly recommend these one to one classes. I have already booked another.

It was a small group (only three of us in total). Our instructor was very personable and helpful, answering questions as we went and encouraging each of us. They also supplied tools so that we didn't use ours from our packs. It was very enjoyable and fun, and I really recommend!

The kids rainbow bead session was really great. My daughter was shown what to do and then she was able to complete the activity however she wanted. It was lovely and laid back, I had a chance to just chat and bond with my child. All the resources were supplied, the staff were ready to help if we needed and she was very friendly.

I had a great experience with my teacher and she was very good at explaining the basics to me.
The hour went so fast but value for money as I learnt lots of different thing about an electric sewing machine.
I am so eager to get to use my own sewing machine now and start my long list of projects.

Jo was an excellent teacher, very friendly and made me feel very relaxed. She explained things very well. The venue was good and comfortable. I learnt most of what I wanted but not all. Unfortunately there was a problem with the buttonhole foot and it didn’t work, which was not Jo’s fault but seemed to be a fault with the sewing machine which meant we were unable to cover all the things I wanted to look at. In all I think the course is good value for money and had the machine been fully working I would have given 5 stars.

Really lovely session, the lady running the session was informative and patient and offered a lot of flexibility to allow the children to use their imagination.
The little peg dolls were really sweet and pretty easy for the children (4+7) to make, but still being a bit of a challenge so they weren't bored, the adults taking part seemed to have fun too.
We didn't get time in 30 mins to make a king and a guard but took the bits home to make a second creation.

Cat the tutor was really great. There was a slight mix up with the number booked in the class but she adapted quickly and the class was brilliant.
The value for money was really very good and the quality of the materials was first class.

CRICUT workshop ,1:1 with Cat was great . Great environment in the Southend store . Really informative session where Cat showed me how to create card cutting ideas and heat transfer ideas and we made a lovely bag for my dog treats !
Cat taught me how to use the Cricut Design app and how to change the cutting tool for my Cricut machine, when needed and gave me so many useful tips for my crafting journey. I definitely advise booking a workshop and if in the future I need further advice, I may book another ! A lovely start to my morning ,then buying more materials to help me go home and continue creating. Thank you Cat .

Lovely friendly and patient lady who gave me advice today. I will now take home all the advice and suggestions, and try it out. Just a pity that the machine used was the Explorer, not the Joy as I had intimated. But, I did learn everything I could. I did not see the kit that was supposed to be given, but, with the stray bits we managed to do everything anyway. Interesting, and gives me hope that I can get crafting with my Cricut Joy.

the instructor, Cat, was friendly. She explained everything well before and during me making my craft. I thought it seemed a bit expensive when I signed up but had a voucher so money off. It was a pleasant surprise to be told that the glue gun and materials in the box were mine to keep so it was not as bad as I first thought.

I had not tried marbling before and was looking forward to decorating the ceramic baubles. The class did not disappoint. Our tutor, Jo was very enthusiastic and encouraging as we tried dipping into different colours and creating patterns. We had some pens to try and write on the finished baubles, I didn't do this, but enjoyed practicing writing in preparation! I used some of the remaining colour solution to marble some pieces of paper. Thoroughly enjoyed the session .

Brilliant workshop.
It’s the first time myself and my friend have done anything like this as we’ve never used a glue gun.
Cat was, and is, a really great workshop tutor.
The kit was really lovely and we had everything that we needed.
The room that we used was very clean and bright and very comfy chairs.

Absolutely loved this course. Great Tutor, we had such a laugh and she was could answer any questions I had.
It says the materials are included in the price, oh boy are they! And you come home with what you don’t use.
I had time to do two canvases which were left at Hobbycraft to dry, for me to collect the following day.

Caz was a really great teacher and we had a great time. We did feel that the class could have been longer as although the class was stated to be an hour it was much shorter. In previous classes the children have made more than one item to stretch out the time. We are excited to do more classes at hobby craft and my boys always enjoy them.

Warm welcome and friendly staff member. Venue was great and comfortable for number of children.
Felt the class could have been longer. Perhaps some photos/ pics of spiders / spider facts to introduce. The lesson could have lasted only 20 mins so perhaps make 2 spiders and a web.

Generally speaking materials were adequate but feel length of class needs to be addressed. And padded out a bit. Lady who took class was very nice.

I had a lovely time on this course . Cat was our tutor and she advised and showed us how to roll and cut our clay and how to shape and design patterns with the tools in our kit and use our rubber stamps and,how to correct errors if needed. It was a thoroughly enjoyable session ,with relaxed ,fun conversations. Southend craft room is such a bonus . I cant wait to hear what future classes are on offer .Thank you Cat.

Really lovely session, Cat who was our host was great with the children.
There was plenty of materials for each child and plenty of space to get messy!
We both really had lots of fun, there was a chair for an adult with each child and more were available if needed.
Worth knowing, especially for a children's session was there are no toilets in the shop, you have to go to Lidl.
Good rather than great just because it wasn't that interactive, you mostly just got down to it but it was still brilliant and would do similar again.

We had lots of fun at the workshop. There was plenty of materials to use and lots of space around the table. We made all of our sea creatures and a little sea turtle too! Cat was absolutely lovely and so good with the kids. They interacted with her so well and she made them feel at ease. The number of children to a class meant everyone got the help and attention they needed and it ran at a lovely relaxed pace. Thank you

Had a lovely fun afternoon making my advent calendar. Cat was friendly and easy to chat with. Lovely little room made me feel like I was back helping my kids at school. Worth the money as the item and all paints and brushes me at have came up to what I paid. I’m pleased with my calendar.

Had a fantastic workshop with Jo. I'm looking to buy a sewing machine and she walked me through all the setting up, accessories and different stitches. It was exactly what I wanted and more. Jo was friendly and helpful and made me feel that I can pop in there anytime to ask for advice.
Once I'm set up with my machine and my confidence grows I'm sure I'll be booking more workshops to help me with future projects.
Thrilled to have our own HobbyCraft shop locally and will definitely be a regular visitor.

Great workshop at Southend Hobbycraft. I was guided through the process of making 2 types of paintings and was able to ask questions throughout. Workshop classes are small which is good.
