She took a real interest in us all, taking time to find out what we already knew and why we were at the class. She has a lovely calm and welcoming manner. She taught us a little about the history of the characters and different styles. She gave us plenty of time to practice and gave everyone individual attention to improve their technique. We had a choice of beautiful things we could take home with our choice of words or sayings on. A lovely, relaxing class and an amazing teacher

After explaining a bit of history behind calligraphy, Iris helped us perfect our brush strokes, and we could write on a scroll or fan to take home too. Would highly recommend!

The class was setup thoughtfully which strikes the perfect balance between learning skilled strokes but not too intensively (if you're a beginner, this balance helps). The teacher was extremely patient, kind, affable and thorough. Highly recommend her class!

Iris was a wonderful and welcoming teacher and you can see the passion she has for this art form! She was super helpful, guiding us through each stroke, giving personal tips and correcting mistakes.Learning about the different scripts, speaking with Iris and being able to create and keep a calligraphy piece (mine was: Growing/Growth/Strength) were some of my favourite parts.

The group size meant that she could support individually and that was so helpful in being able to learn the techniques properly. I liked the we learnt the history behind Chinese calligraphy before jumping in. There was a nice variety of materials for your final piece provided, and Iris was very patient with our requests.

Loved the teacher’s feedback which was really useful. Once we felt ready, we got to apply our skills on a take-home item (fan, card, rice paper)! I felt very at peace even while being determined to do well. After having to give up on other loved hobbies due to a painful illness, discovering this workshop is a step towards finding peace and meaning. It feels very important and I recommend to everyone!! Looking forward to the other classes Iris offers!

And learning the calligraphy strokes were highly relaxing and satisfying! At the end of the class, I felt such a great sense of peace and bliss within my soul :) I highly recommend this class to anyone who has an interest in creative arts. You don't need to have skills - the teacher does an excellent job in guiding her students through every step of the way! All the best.

The venue, Ginette cafe was a lovely chilled space and perfect for this class. For the practical elements all materials like paper, brushes and ink were provided as were options for our final creative piece such as fan, scroll, bookmark, painting. I did the class with my teenage daugher and we both enjoyed the friendly session very much.

Iris was such a patient, warm and attentive teacher and really good at explaining the history and heritage of this ancient art. We got to practising quite quickly using the paper and brushes provided, and I appreciated that Iris would come around and spend some time with each of us, guiding and supporting our writing. By the end, we both wrote out our couplets to hand on our wall at home. It was such a lovely way to spend a calming two hours on a rainy Sunday, and not only do we have a lovely memento of our class, but also a new hobby to explore together as we both celebrate and learn more about my culture.
