Pottery Taster Class - Hand-Building - Royal Wharf

Discover pottery making in London with this taster class for hand building skills.

2 hours Class size 1 to 8 guests       £63

Come and get your hands dirty at this London pottery class and discover how to sculpt clay by hand into beautiful creations.
This is the perfect way to give the world of pottery a try. Supported by a friendly teacher from Bonbon Pottery, you'll enjoy two hours of guided learning and hands-on crafting in a warm and colourful pottery studio.
Uncover the magic of moulding clay with your hands and explore techniques like pinching, coiling, and slab building to bring your ideas to life in the clay. You'll also get the chance to discover how to paint beautiful designs on pottery. It's the perfect creative experience to share with friends as a fun London activity!
After crafting your pieces, we'll kiln fire them for you at no extra cost — firing is included in the price of your class, and your pieces will be ready to collect in around four weeks. If you'd rather not wait, you're welcome to take them home on the day and let them air dry for a week instead, though your teacher recommends firing for a better, more attractive finish.

  • 5/5 from Leo Rozario, attended Jul 2026: Zach was fun and could take a joke. Best pottery teacher by far
  • 4/5 from Alejandra Miyazawa, attended Apr 2025: I very much enjoyed this Pottery Taster Class. Zack was an excellent teacher and incredibly patient. The class consisted of 11 people, and considering you build, dry and paint the pottery, 2 hours felt too short. He told us about different hand-building techniques and did a great job of going around and trying to help everyone though. Unfortunately everything was delayed as we had to wait 10 minutes for the last 2 people to arrive. After waiting, he then individually went around each person, asking what they were going to build, and distributed clay as he gave advice on how to make it. I feel the class would've been better with either half the amount of people or a longer class, so as to feel less rushed. I learned some great techniques that I've put to use already. Overall, I very much enjoyed the class and my vampire cat pot.
  • 5/5 from Sylwia, attended Jan 2024: I highly recommend this class - the teacher was very friendly and knowledgeable. She helped everyone in the group make a beautiful creation and supported us every step of the way. The description of this class said it is recommended to airdry the items at home, but we were charged the kiln firing fee at the end of the class anyway, so that was a surprise. However, the pieces turned out great and were worth the waiting time for collection. Would go again!
  • 5/5 from Mohammed Abthahee Kamaly, attended Jan 2024: Maddison was a great teacher and super enthusiastic. She kept everyone involved and also kept it real throughout. She would often say if requests were realistic but also didn’t shy away from a challenge (e.g. creating an ugly cat, which looked great btw). My partner and I found Maddison really supportive and really encouraging. I would say the ideal class size is 8 people because of the size of the space. Any more than that and it feels a little crowded. We were lucky that the class started with 10 but 2 people left because they had signed up for something different. Seeing the difference it made when 2 people left was eye opening. There was a lot more space and I feel like it enhanced the social aspect too, as there weren’t too many people having conversations between themselves. The added space meant I could actually have space to manoeuvre and that freedom really helped me open up with my neighbours!
  • 5/5 from James Lee, attended Nov 2023: Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the Shape & Shade class at Bonbon Pottery with my friend. It was an enriching two-hour session filled with hands-on crafting and learning. The class focused on shaping clay using techniques like pinching, coiling, and slab building. As a beginner, I found the guided learning approach very helpful. One of the highlights for me was the freedom to express creativity while being surrounded by a supportive group. It was exciting to dig my hands into the clay and experiment with different shapes. I appreciated the option to take my creations home to air dry, which I opted for, as it adds a personal touch to the final product. For those wanting a more professional finish, Bonbon Pottery offers a kiln firing service for an additional fee. This flexibility caters to different preferences, which I find very thoughtful. The class is perfect for groups, and they accommodate requests for different schedules if you have at least three people. Overall, it was a delightful experience that combined learning, creativity, and social interaction in a beautiful setting. I highly recommend the Shape & Shade class to anyone looking for a fun and creative way to spend a few hours
