  • 5/5 from Juliet Graham, attended Nov 2025: Great day learning how to upholster a chair. David is an excellent, patient teacher. Highly recommend his classes.
  • 5/5 from Diana Robinson, attended Jul 2025: I did a half day class in chair seat upholstery. David was an excellent teacher, very patient and explained things very well. He gave just the right amount of help / illustration - and encouragement! I loved that he emphasised that upholstery is not an exact science and the need for feeling my way through some parts until it felt ok to me. Workshop was well equipped, spacious - and wonderfully cool in our current heatwave.
  • 5/5 from Laura Polo, attended Feb 2025: David was an excellent teacher, explained exactly how and what do to, how to handle the equipment safely. I bought in dinning chair seats that need recovering, we removed the old dust cover and the fake leather, the foam was all in good order so we lined the foad with wadding and then the material; David showed me how to make sure sure there were no lumps or bumps, so the material was nice and smooth, the corners did not show any pleats. I am really pleased and now have another 6 to do!!! Thank you David.
  • 5/5 from Jacqui Berry, attended Jun 2024: David is an excellent teacher. He guided us through the upholstery process with plenty of tips and expert knowledge. I'm delighted with my chair. I'm certainly going to be returning to attend other classes at The Great British Woodshop.
  • 5/5 from Emma, attended Feb 2024: Was a fantastic day! Brought a complicated chair and thanks to David’s amazing tuition managed to complete it. Would 100% recommend. Photos show before and after!
  • 5/5 from Carolyn Sellick, attended May 2023: Fantastic teaching from a friendly.and knowledgeable instructor. The group on the day created a lovely atmosphere together. Would highly recommend this upholstery course to anyone looking to learn from someone hugely experienced.
  • 5/5 from Tamara Jacobs, attended May 2023: David was a great teacher - knowledgeable, patient, and approachable. He has a fantastic workshop with loads of tools, which he will show you how to use. We had a really nice group - all with different chairs, stools, fabrics and needs! It was a really wonderful day!
  • 4/5 from Annette Frem, attended Mar 2023: I attention the workshop with my teenager daughter. David was very friendly and showed great interest in what people had bought with then and what they wanted to get out of the course. David is also very knowledgeable, takes the time to explain and demonstrate what he is doing (also if it isn't on your 'project'). I recommend the course to anybody who wants to try and do upholstery.
