If you'd like to learn to knit, this supportive and fun knitting class for beginners is a brilliant place to begin.
We're not sure when, but somewhere along the line, knitting became the quirky crafter's pastime du jour. As well as those hip girls and guys you see knitting on the train, there's a pack of crafty stars getting in on the needle action too (if it's good enough for Madonna...!). If you're feeling out of the loop with the world of knitting, then we’re happy to show you how.
Join this chilled out class to learn to knit with the guidance of an expert knitting teacher. You'll learn all the basics including knit and purl stitch, how to cast on and cast off, stocking stitch and garter stitch. Its jam packed with all the knitting goodies you will need.
Join this craft class for beginners solo and meet like-minded others as you begin your knitting journey, or come along with your friends or loved ones and learn to knit together. It's a brilliant activity if you're looking for fun things to do in London and want to add some creative abilities to your bow.
After two and a half hours of knitting and nattering, you'll feel like a knitting pro! You'll go home with all the knowledge you need to top up your newfound knitting skills independently and get practising. You'll also head off with your take away knit kit containing a pair of knitting needles (super lightweight so great for beginners!), yarn, and a useful how-to guide to keep you on track.

  • 5/5 from Kendal Jones, attended Jul 2026: Absolutely loved my knitting class. The teacher and group were so friendly (all of us had gone alone), and it was a really calm space to learn in. The teacher was great at demonstrating techniques and gave lots of one to one time to each of us. As someone brand new to knitting, I came away from the session feeling confident that I had picked up the basics to continue practicing on my own. Really recommend!
  • 5/5 from Patricia Baker, attended Apr 2026: I enjoyed the beginners knitting workshop very much. The size of the class was not too big and everyone was friendly. The tutors were good and helpful also very patient with the class. I would definitely recommend the workshop. It’s a lovely gift to give to someone.

  • 5/5 from Vitoria Ribeiro, attended Jul 2024: Lesson was amazing. The teacher also amazing and patient. I loved the lesson and for sure I will come back for more lessons.
  • 4/5 from Alessandra Fabbri, attended Jul 2024: I really enjoyed the Knitting for Beginners class: Nessa has a good sense of humour and she spent time with everyone around the room, teaching but also gently encouraging us to build on the principles: we cover casting on and off, knitting and purling, ribs, moss stitch we were inspired to create simple garments like a neck warmer or mittens! Obviously everyone learns at their own pace but we all achieved something by the end of the lesson. Highly recommended stepping stone for beginners and non.
  • 5/5 from James Murrell, attended Jan 2024: Loved the beginners knitting class on Tuesday evening. Nessa was a very friendly, patient and experienced teacher. Good deal For the price which included the class, nice wooden needles, a ball of wool, yarn needle, pamphlet, tea and cake. Learned. A lot, really worth it!
  • 5/5 from Amy West, attended Oct 2023: Really enjoyed this class, learnt how to knit different stitches and how to cast on and off. Vanessa, our teacher, was really friendly and helpful. It was a great class for absolute beginners and those who knitted a long time ago but have forgotten. Also, the owner was really friendly when I had a query about the course. Thank you!
  • 5/5 from Laura Ghisellini, attended Jul 2023: Very nice experience. Excellent teacher! Friendly and relaxing atmosphere. I learned what I was expected.
  • 5/5 from Sophie McFarlane, attended May 2023: We had a lovely evening learning basic to more advanced types of stitches, was super fun and at each individual persons pace. We would recommend to anyone looking to learn the basics of knitting
  • 5/5 from Gregory Allen, attended May 2023: Great starter course. Was able to go at your own pace even with others in the room. The calming wirds from Nessa the teacher helped every time. Learnt enough to get started and practice will help me get better and understand refresher videos. But Nessa was brilliant
  • 5/5 from Merve Karal, attended Mar 2023: The teacher was so lovely and the class was very informative. The teacher helped everyone to understand every bit. Extra bonuses for yummy donuts
  • 4/5 from Renata Brazis, attended Dec 2022: Materials were provided. But I would say this class would fit more for someone who has little knowledge already.
  • 5/5 from Juliet Avery, attended Oct 2021: Nessa was a fantastic teacher - giving everyone the time and attention they required. I left learning 2 new stitches which I'm thrilled about and feel like I have the confidence to move forward with a new project!

Hey, I’m Jane, and I’m obsessed with all things crafty! If it involves glue, yarn, paint, or paper—chances are, I’ve tried it. I started Tea and Crafting back in 2009 as a cosy, welcoming workshop space in Covent Garden because I wanted to share my love of crafting with everyone.
I totally get that life is busy, so I made it my mission to offer fun, relaxed, and totally doable craft workshops—no six-week commitment required! Just pop in, get creative, and walk away with something amazing (even if you think you're “not crafty”).
Fast forward 12 years, and I’m still here, sharing the magic of making alongside a fantastic team of expert crafters. Because honestly? Crafting isn’t just about being good at it—it’s about the joy, the creativity, and that unbeatable feel-good factor. So, come craft with us! ️
