A Finishing Touch from the Fine Dining Table

During the pottery session, you will usually make four pieces. These will be glazed and fired in Mihaly’s studio, using the glaze he developed for Angelina restaurant. Your pieces will be ready approximately two weeks after the workshop. Please contact Mihaly to arrange a convenient collection time.

Discover a different way to begin creating. Join sound practitioner Malgorzata Kosmala and ceramic artist Mihaly Herczeg for an experience bringing together sound, stillness, and the pleasure of making with clay in a creative studio overlooking the Thames. With a 60-minute Gong Bath followed by two hours of guided pottery, this workshop invites you to slow down, explore your senses, and create something of your own. Just six places ensure a welcoming atmosphere and personal guidance throughout.
Begin with sound
Your experience opens with an immersive Gong Bath led by Malgorzata. Resting on your mat with a blanket, you will listen to the gong’s changing tones, from soft, lingering notes to deeper, resonant waves that gradually give way to silence. A Gong Bath is a listening experience — no water is involved. There are no movements to follow and no particular way you need to feel. You are simply invited to notice the sounds, the spaces between them, and your own response. After a short break, we take that attentive approach to the pottery wheel, moving from what we hear to what we feel beneath our hands.
Let your hands find the form
At your own wheel, Mihaly will guide you through the foundations of throwing: centring the clay, opening it, and gently drawing up the walls. Mihaly creates bespoke ceramics for fine dining restaurants alongside his own sculptural work. His practice explores movement, balance, and the possibilities of clay, and he brings that curiosity into his teaching. Through clear demonstrations and individual support, you will discover how small changes in pressure and touch affect the growing form — when to guide the clay and when to soften your hands. The connection between sound and pottery is attention. The gong invites you to listen; the wheel invites you to respond through touch. Together, they offer a fresh way to approach the creative process.
No previous pottery or Gong Bath experience is needed. You do not need a finished design in mind, and there is no expectation of perfection.
A finishing touch from the fine dining table
After the workshop, one piece you have made will be glazed and fired in Mihaly’s studio. It will be finished in the glaze he developed for Angelina restaurant, connecting your creation with his bespoke tableware for fine dining. Your finished piece will be available to collect once the drying, glazing, and firing are complete. We will explain the expected timeframe during the workshop and contact you when it is ready. As with all handmade ceramics, occasional drying or firing faults can occur.
Come on your own, share the experience with a friend or partner, or give someone time to explore their creativity. Come with curiosity. Discover what takes shape.
