Are you searching for relaxed and calming activities in London, away from a hectic city lifestyle? Unwind and release your creativity by joining a pottery making workshop in Deptford!
Beginners are welcome to this London pottery class. You'll receive plenty of support from your teacher as you transform clay into handmade pottery pieces. Your local teacher will guide you through hand-building techniques using coils and slabs. You'll also get to try wheel throwing!
No matter your experience level, whether you're a novice or an experienced clay artist, this workshop provides an excellent opportunity to relax in a beautiful London pottery studio and explore your creative side.
After the session, your pottery will be taken to be fired and glazed and will be available for collection after three weeks. You can then showcase your beautiful pieces at home or gift them to your loved ones!
Please note:
  • Please note: This is an adult pottery class. Participants aged 11 years and over are welcome, provided they are able to work independently in an adult-paced group class. This is not a children's class.
  • Your finished pieces will be fired and glazed, ready to collect 4 weeks after the class.
  • A materials fee of £5 per piece of pottery kept is NOT included in the class and is payable on the day of your workshop.
  • Pieces are ready around 4-5 weeks after the class. We will send you an email when they are ready to be collected. Please check you email and spam folder. We will keep your pots in the studio for a month. If not collected in time they may be disposed of.
  • It is your responsibility to arrive on time for the class. Upon arriving to your class 30 minutes or later, we have the right to reject you joining the class without any refund or rescheduling.
  • No cancellations or reschedules allowed.
  • During summer, there is no air conditioning in the studio, so please bring water and dress for the heat!
  • During winter, it would be a bit cold in the studio. Whilst we try our best to keep the studio warm, please prepare an extra coat or clothes to keep yourself warm during class.
  • Please enter and leave the studio quietly - the studio is in the middle of the neighbourhood!
** Please note that due to the nature of ceramics, final results may vary and cannot be guaranteed. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Glaze colours and finishes may vary from samples and are for reference only.
  • Textures and fine details may appear differently after firing.
  • Finished pieces will shrink by approximately 15% during the drying and firing process.
  • Minor imperfections, such as small clay marks or uneven surfaces, may be present.
  • Pieces may crack, warp or break during drying or firing.
We take every care throughout the making and firing process; however, these are natural characteristics and risks of working with clay and cannot always be prevented.
If a piece is damaged beyond use during the firing process, we will reimburse the £5 materials and firing fee paid for that piece. Class fees are non-refundable.
What you'll get
  • Clay, aprons and tools will be provided during the class.
  • If you would like to keep your finished pieces, a materials and firing fee of £5 per piece is payable on the day of the class.
  • Finished pieces are usually ready for collection 4–5 weeks after the class. We will notify you by email when they are ready. Please check your inbox and spam/junk folder.
  • We will store finished pieces for one month from the date of our collection email. Pieces not collected within this period may be disposed of due to limited storage space.
Please note that ceramics are fragile. While every care is taken, cracking, warping or breakage can occur during the drying and firing process. These are natural risks of ceramics, and we cannot guarantee that every piece will be successfully fired.

A rare and hidden pottery Eden in the heart of east London, Stoke Newington. Cernamic studio in Stoke Newington was founded, created, and built during the first lockdown of the pandemic, through hard work, blood, sweat, and tears. Nam and Susi two professional ceramicists run this fun and affordable pottery studio open for everyone from all walks of life.
Nam Tran is an award-winning practitioner who gives lectures and demos at universities and exhibits internationally. A ceramic lecturer and head of the departments in design and multi-media with Kensington and Chelsea college. Nam specialises in wheel-thrown raku, bringing years of experience and craftsmanship to every object made.
Tran's work is focused primarily on exploring the physical properties of clay and material experimentation is a strong characteristic of his work. He has been developing making enclosed forms that are much stronger than open forms and therefore resonates well with the alternative firing technique he uses. His work is dominated by thrown pieces that subtly echo the urban roots and conceptual design. Nam Tran first made pots as a teenager on a wheel in his own bedroom and remembers being captivated by the experience. With his unique alternatives methods and approach to ceramics, Nam Tran identifies rules and manipulates and bends them.
