What you'll do
Whether you want to learn to make beautiful greetings cards and wall art or you simply want to level up your handwriting skills, come along to this calligraphy class in Clerkenwell and learn all about modern calligraphy.
During this beginners' modern calligraphy workshop you will learn the fundamentals of modern calligraphy and how to use a dip pen and ink to hand write beautiful calligraphy and shapes. Under the guidance of an experienced tutor, you will start off by learning and practising some basic strokes before moving into the lower case alphabet and then capitals.
Each attendee will receive a beautiful personalised calligraphy kit to use during the class and then take home. The kit will contain a calligraphy penholder, a nib, a pot of ink and lots of worksheets and luxury set of stationery.
Modern calligraphy is a very free style of calligraphy and you do not have to be artistic or have a particularly neat style of handwriting to learn. You'll leave the class with everything you've created on the day, plus all the skills and knowledge you've learned to continue the practice at home.

What to bring
There is no need to bring anything to the class as all materials will be provided. However, attendees should note that the calligraphy ink we use in class is waterproof and therefore will not come out of clothes/fabric. Please do not wear our best outfit!

Hi, I’m Asha, an artist who loves paper, ink and textured printed paper. Since I was young I have magnetised towards all things stationery and crafts and find myself happiest when writing, drawing or painting.
After working in a heavily digitised world in a creative field it was an awakening moment in 2014 when I discovered calligraphy. The way the nib moved slowly and almost effortlessly across the paper like it was dancing a slow waltz, will forever be in my memories. Babooche Calligraphy was set up in 2017 and soon after I found my perfect studio in central London, UK.
Following my discovery of the art of letterpress and foil printing I purchased my own presses to transform my designs into luxurious paper goods.
Inspired by nature and European heirloom history, I utilise these slow artisan and printing techniques to create art for those that love paper as much as I do.
