What you'll do
In this printing workshop, ideal for beginners, you will have the opportunity to learn the fascinating process of cyanotype printing. Discover the origins of this technique and explore how artists have utilized it to create stunning artwork. Under the guidance of David Lush, a qualified teacher and practising artist, you will delve into the world of cyanotype printing and transform an animal image into a beautiful A4 negative.
During this workshop, you will immerse yourself in a hands-on experience. Using brushes, you will coat the paper with a light-sensitive solution, created through a chemical process. The coated paper will then be exposed to UV light that has passed through the negative, resulting in a mesmerizing blue and white image of the animal. You will also have the opportunity to learn how to add pigments to colour your images, using various materials like coloured pencils, pastels, watercolours, or even coffee and tea stains.
Throughout the day, you can print multiple images and select the best ones to keep for yourself or give as a unique and personal gift. You'll be amazed at what you can create with this transformative process.
To ensure seamless preparation, you can choose from a selection of animal negatives provided by the tutor, or email the image of the animal you would like to use at least a week before the workshop. Please make sure the image is suitable for printing at A4 size, without any pixelation or blurriness.
As a bonus, your workshop experience includes a delicious lunch, unlimited tea and coffee throughout the day, and a delightful afternoon cake. Indulge your creativity and join us for this immersive textiles class where you'll learn new skills, create stunning artwork, and take home a truly unique masterpiece.
Please note that aprons will be provided, but we recommend wearing clothes that you don't mind getting messy. Art materials such as pastels, coffee and tea stains, and watercolours will also be provided, but feel free to bring your own colouring pencils for experimentation.
