Love nature? Come along to this fun photography workshop in London and learn how to expertly snap stunning wildlife in Richmond Park!

During this walking wildlife photography workshop, you will discover how to capture exciting, creative wildlife images through informative and hands-on demonstrations in Richmond Park. You will learn how to snap the majestic Red and Fallow deer that occupy the park against the countless beautiful backdrops — you're sure to come away with beautiful images to be proud of.

Subjects covered:

  • Tips and tricks for creative composition.
  • The importance of backgrounds in wildlife photography.
  • Making the most of the available light.
  • Focusing modes for pin-sharp wildlife images.
  • Histogram and the importance of exposing to the right.
  • How to photograph wildlife respectfully.
  • Story-telling and the art of photographing a single scene in many different ways.

New to photography? This photography class is ideal for beginners as your friendly teacher will also be there to guide you on the technical side of photography as well as exploring composition and the thought process behind creating photos, not just taking them.

Typical itinerary (subject to change):
  • To begin the day, you will meet your teacher and your group at Richmond Park Gates. Your teacher will then offer a brief overview of the session, before setting off to explore Richmond Park in search of wildlife.
  • If required, your teacher will initially discuss camera settings, ensuring you are completely confident with your camera and set up correctly so that you're ready and waiting to snap that perfect wildlife shot. You'll be encouraged to keep your eyes peeled for adorable squirrels, bright green Ring-necked Parakeets, swans and of course, deer. This workshop is always timed with sunrise or sunset, giving the best chance of beautiful golden hour sunlight!

Knowledge required
Beginner to advanced – while not essential, it suggested that you attend the 'Beginners Photography Workshop' first.
 
What to bring
  • A camera – this is essential! Ideally a digital SLR or another camera that can be controlled manually. Please contact the teacher before booking if you intend to use a smartphone.
  • Lenses – telephoto zoom lens over 150mm.
  • Please wear sturdy trainers as we walk a few kms on some uneven ground. Wrap up warm if it is a cold day.

Matthew is a London-based travel, landscape and wildlife photographer who's work has been recognised in Travel Photography of the Year on numerous occasions. He absolutely loves sharing his passion and to date has taught over 300 people on his workshops and photography holidays. Whether leading tours, shooting assignments or working on personal projects, he loves nothing more than getting out there and exploring the world with camera in hand and is excited to help you do the same!
