In this intimate workshop, you'll learn the foundational techniques of wheel throwing pottery, creating your own handmade ceramic pieces in a professional studio setting. This class is perfect for complete beginners and those who've tried it out a bit, with a maximum of three students ensuring plenty of personal attention.
If you've always wanted to try pottery but felt uncertain about where to begin, this workshop provides the perfect introduction. You'll receive expert guidance throughout the two-hour session, learning at a comfortable pace in a supportive environment.
Starting with the basics, you'll discover how to centre clay on the wheel and master the essential techniques for pulling up walls to create cylinder shapes. Working with approximately 3lbs of clay, you'll receive step-by-step instruction as you develop your skills. For those who have some experience or specific projects in mind, the session can be tailored to your needs (please contact the studio in advance to discuss. we also offer an intermediate class that may suit you better).
The meditative nature of working with clay makes this workshop particularly special - as you learn to feel and respond to the material, you'll discover the peaceful satisfaction of creating with your hands.
At the end of the session, you can choose to your favourite pieces which be glazed and fired by the team in the colours of your choice.
Your piece will then be fired by the studio to 1220C.
You will be required to return to the studio 6 weeks after you class date to collect your work. Postage is available at extra cost.
Please note: We strive to help you create something amazing during your pottery class. Because each piece is handmade and involves many variables (such as clay handling, glaze, and firing conditions), we’re unable to offer refunds or replacements for defects or damages that occur in items you’ve made.

She gently guided us in an encouraging way without interfering too much. It was lovely and I’ll definitely book more classes here. Thanks!

The atmosphere and environment were very comfortable and our teacher was patient and attentive to our individual requirements to the point where it felt like magic. I was genuinely shocked when I managed to center on the first try just following her directives. And I finally know what I do wrong at home. I will surely be back as it has rekindled my love for pottery. If you can go, you absolutely should and you won't regret it. Thanks again to all the team and hopefully see you soon
  • 5/5 from Anonymised ClassBento customer, attended Jun 2026: Just finished a 2-hour introductory session on using a wheel. We were taught how make a straight sided cylindrical pot. The 2 teachers were absolutely brilliant - really clear & supportive. Small group of 3 people learning, and we each had our own wheel, plus loads of individual advice & support. I’m now thinking of signing up for the 4-week wheel course.

  • 5/5 from Anna-Marie Fernandes, attended Oct 2025: My friend and I went to try our hand at wheel throwing for the first time. Ali our teacher was so kind and patient with us first timers. She gave us helpful tips and her intuitive teaching did a great job in getting us to finish off 3 pieces on the wheel, where we both expected we'd only manage the 1! After throwing we were given a nice selection of glazes to glaze our pieces. They do the firing and glazing for you and will contact you once they are ready. The studio had a quaint and creative energy to it, a great place to learn to do pottery. Would definitely recommend the class to any beginners and I will most certainly do another class there again!
  • 5/5 from Hannah Pheloung, attended Oct 2025: I took the 2 hour pottery throwing beginners class in Bow. Alice, the teacher, was excellent - she explained and demonstrated each technique clearly and went at just the right pace. The studio itself was a lovely, welcoming space that instantly put me at ease. I really felt supported throughout the session, and by the end, I not only learned a lot but also had so much fun. Highly recommend this class to anyone curious about pottery or looking for a creative, hands-on experience!
