Working in a small group of only five people, you'll receive plenty of one-to-one support from an expert tutor who understands the common wobbles of starting out. They'll guide you through the essential steps of the process, helping you feel confident as you learn to handle the materials. During this session, you will:
  • Prepare your clay – Learn the importance of getting your material ready for the wheel.
  • Master centring – Discover the techniques used to balance your clay before you begin shaping.
  • Shape your piece – Use your hands to pull up the walls of the clay and create your very own ceramic form.
This workshop is a wonderful way to switch off from the digital world and find a moment of mindfulness through tactile creation. This 2-hour wheel throwing taster class runs on Tuesday and Friday evenings and is designed for beginners and those with a little experience who want to build confidence on the wheel. Led by our friendly, experienced instructors, the session is hands-on, supportive and all about enjoying the process in a relaxed setting.
You’ll learn the fundamentals of wheel throwing, including how to centre clay and shape simple forms, with guidance every step of the way. No previous experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to get your hands muddy.
At the end of the session, you’ll choose your favourite piece to keep. We’ll glaze and fire it for you, ready for collection from the studio once it’s finished.
