Things Women Want for Christmas: A Last Minute Guide for the Festively Frazzled
By Amy Brown
If you’re Christmas shopping for her and feeling totally stuck, take a deep breath – you’re in exactlyIf you’re Christmas shopping for her and feeling totally stuck, take a deep breath – you’re in exactly the right place. Whether you’ve left things a little late or you’re shopping for a woman who already has everything, our curated guide to the loveliest Christmas gifts for her across the UK is here to help! Let’s be honest: most women don’t want more stuff. Another candle, another scarf – they’ll smile politely, but it won’t light them up. What they really want is something that feels personal. Something that says I know you. That’s where experience gifts come in. From calming creative workshops to laugh-out-loud foodie activities this last-minute gift guide is your saviour if you’re feeling festive but frazzled. Whether you’re searching for Christmas gifts for the woman who wants nothing, creative Christmas gifts for a girlfriend, or thoughtful Christmas gift ideas for your wife, you’re about to find something that actually feels right. Why experiences make the loveliest gifts When time is short and pressure is high, experience gifts are surprisingly perfect. They’re flexible, thoughtful and full of heart. Instead of wrapping panic in shiny paper, you’re gifting quality time, creativity and joy. Experience gifts are also a win if you’re buying for: A partner who’s impossible to buy for. A sister who already owns every skincare product under the sun! A bestie who values memories over material things. No wonder they’re quickly becoming some of the top 10 things a woman wants for Christmas. And the best bit? You don’t need to know her exact style, size or taste – just the vibe she loves. If she wants to relax and slow down If her idea of heaven involves switching off, getting cosy and reconnecting with herself, these calming creative workshops are exactly the kind of things women want for Christmas. Candle making class in Shoreditch, London. A beautiful way to unwind and create something she’ll genuinely use! Perfect if you’re searching for Christmas gifts for the woman who wants nothing but peace, quiet and a candle-lit bath. Happy guest Penny Knubley said: "Really lovely afternoon, learnt so much and made a beautiful looking and smelling candle! Quite proud of myself actually and has given me inspiration to try making some at home. Thank you so much." Kintsugi workshop in Battersea, London. A gorgeous choice if you’re looking for Christmas gift ideas for your wife that feel thoughtful, especially if she’s always fixing things! Pottery throwing taster class in Birmingham. If she loves a bit of mindful creativity, she’ll love working with clay and trying out a pottery wheel. This experience lets her slow down and create a handmade keepsake to cherish. If she wants to find her creative side Some women light up when they’re creating, experimenting and expressing themselves. If she adores trying new crafts or has a Pinterest board bursting with ideas, these are some of the most awesome gift ideas for her! Half-day tufting workshop in Manchester. Bold and fun, rug tufting is one of those crafts she’s probably seen online and secretly wants to try. She’ll make her own unique rug that she’ll show off every time you see her. Mosaic making class in Clapham, London. A slower, mindful craft that results in something beautiful. If she loves detail and design, she’ll love working with mosaics. Eco-resin craft workshop in Edinburgh. Pressed flowers, eco-resin and handmade trays – this class blends creativity with sustainability. A lovely option for creative Christmas gifts for a girlfriend who loves thoughtful, flowery crafts. If she wants to learn a new skill Learning something new can be so much fun, and empowering too! If she’s always keen to learn and try new unique activities, one of these hands-on workshops might just be exactly what you’re looking for! Fresh flower arranging workshop in Islington, London. Hands-on, joyful and confidence-boosting. Beginners enamel jewellery workshop in Lambeth, London. A chance to design and create wearable art. If your go-to gift for her is jewellery, swap it out and let her hand make it! Keen crafter Nawal Nasreddin said: "This made my birthday truly special. I made a pendant that matched so well with my dress, and our instructors were so helpful and kind! Thank you so much!" Macramé coaster workshop in Birmingham. Relaxed, social and beginner-friendly – this is a lovely introduction to macramé and a great option if you’re Christmas shopping for her on a budget. If she wants to let loose and have fun Not all gifts need to be calm and quiet. If she loves laughing, trying something unexpected or sharing an experience with someone special, these playful picks are guaranteed to please – she’ll be sure to thank you for it! Couples wheel throwing workshop and challenge in Birmingham. Competitive, messy and full of laughs – this is one of the most memorable Christmas gifts for her if you’re looking to double it up as a fun date idea! ClassBento gifter David Colley said: "I booked this for me and my girlfriend as a Christmas present and couldn't be happier with the experience. Is she a proud pet parent? Give her the chance to paint her furry friend in this fun, social workshop. Chocolate cocktail experience in Bristol. Dessert? Drink? Why choose? In this playful cocktail experience, she’ll shake and stir with the best ingredient of them all – chocolate! If she wants to nurture her inner foodie For women who bond over food and delicious flavours, these culinary classes are some of the most reliable things women want for Christmas for the passionate foodie in your life! Mastering the perfect macarons is so much fun, and satisfying too. A real confidence-boosting experience and a perfect gift for the sweet tooth in your life! The takeaway: meaningful experiences win every time If you’re still worrying that you’ve left it too late, here’s your reminder: the best gifts aren’t about perfection – they’re about intention. Experience gifts show thought, care and effort, even when time is short. So whether you’re buying for your mum, partner, sister or best friend, remember this: the most meaningful things women want for Christmas are moments and memories, not more clutter. And the best part? Gift vouchers for our lovely classes can be bought immediately and personalised with a message, and even a photo! Last minute, but make it extra sweet. Meet FOLX Atelier
By Victoria Haynes
Founder of FOLX Atelier, Samuel Clark, found his passion for textiles ignited after performing in his local pantomime andFounder of FOLX Atelier, Samuel Clark, found his passion for textiles ignited after performing in his local pantomime and becoming inspired by the costumes. Swapping the stage for a sewing machine, he went on to university to study Costume Construction, and now enjoys sharing his skills with other budding dressmakers from Hackney in London. Can you walk us through what a beginner actually gets to create during their very first sewing / embroidery class? We make a lot of samples at the Beginners Sewing Machine Workshop; everyone learns different seam techniques, finishes and stitches. I'm thinking about doing an upcycling tote workshop in the future, where people can bring an old pair of jeans and learn how to turn them into something far more fabulous! Do you see a lot of people coming in to a sewing class solo and leaving with new friends or craft buddies? A lot of people do come on their own, and theres more often than not a small bond by the time they leave. It's so lovely to see strangers support other strangers! Do you get a lot of first dates, birthday groups, or hen dos — and how do those sessions differ from the others? I can't say I've had a lot of first dates – but whenever theres a birthday we always let them choose the music for the class playlist! What’s your favourite advice for someone who describes themselves as "not a creative person" but still wants to learn to sew? Just give it a go - whats the worst that will happen? What sewing or embroidery techniques can people learn in your workshops? People will learn all the skills they need to be able to create their own garments from scratch. Using a sewing machine, inserting zips and fastenings, constructing patterns – whether you want to make a corset or a Christmas stocking, we can show people how! How does learning to mend or stitch by hand change the way people look at their own clothes and textiles? It slows down the fashion industry, and leads to less waste. Instead of throwing away something thats torn, they then might realise they can repair it instead – it's a really solid skill to have. What would you say to someone who's on the fence about booking their first sewing workshop? Come to MINE, because not only are they informative, they're also FUN! ...
Meet Stanza Artigiano
By Victoria Haynes
Italian fragrance expert and Stanza Artigiana founder, Danilo, is as passionate about sharing his craft as he is creatingItalian fragrance expert and Stanza Artigiana founder, Danilo, is as passionate about sharing his craft as he is creating heavenly scents – and with a background in biotechnology and business management for fragrance brands, there's not much he doesn't know! Danilo started making candles from a little wooden shed in North London as a way to slow down and switch off, and what began as something personal became a way of sharing his creativity, heritage and love of fragrance. Now, he uses his Italian upbringing to shape how he hosts, saying, "I want people to feel welcome, settle in and enjoy being together. There’s something lovely about watching people who have never met start talking as they choose their fragrances and pour their candles. They leave with something they’ve made themselves, but also with a shared memory. That’s what makes teaching so special to me." Walk us through what happens in one of your classes, from start to finish. "We start with a warm welcome, a glass of Prosecco and a little introduction to Stanza Artigiana. Once everyone is settled, I share my story, introduce the materials we’ll be using and explain the candle-making process, so everyone feels comfortable before we begin. Then comes one of my favourite parts: exploring the fragrances! I encourage people to take their time, notice what they’re drawn to and share any memories the scents bring back – this is often where the conversation really starts. From there, I guide everyone through preparing their vessel and wick, measuring and mixing the wax and fragrance, and pouring their candle. I explain each step as we go and make sure everyone gets plenty of individual support. While the candles cool, we explore the connection between scent and memory, and how our sense of smell is closely linked to the parts of the brain involved in emotion and remembering. We talk about why a fragrance can suddenly bring back a childhood memory, a familiar place or someone we love, often sparking some really lovely stories around the table. At the end, everyone takes home their own handmade candle, along with the knowledge and confidence to try again. I want them to leave feeling relaxed, proud and glad they took that time for themselves." What's the difference in energy between a class of close friends versus a table of strangers? "With close friends, there’s usually laughter and conversation from the beginning. They know each other’s stories, tease each other about their fragrance choices and feel comfortable straight away. The class gives them a chance to spend time together doing something different. With strangers, the energy tends to be quieter at first. Being southern Italian, I bring that sense of warmth and hospitality into the room. I want people to feel as though they’ve come round to my table, so I welcome everyone personally and help them feel at ease from the moment they arrive. Scent is a lovely conversation starter: someone mentions that a fragrance reminds them of their grandmother’s house or a holiday, and someone else shares their own memory. Those little exchanges help people open up! Making something together also takes the pressure off having to make conversation. You can focus on your candle, ask the person beside you what they’ve chosen, and let things develop naturally. I love that moment when a quiet table starts chatting and laughing. By the end, it often feels as though they’ve known each other much longer than a couple of hours." Do you find many people come for catch ups with friends, or for date night activities? "Yes, and we welcome both! Friends come because they want a proper catch-up while doing something creative together: there’s plenty of time to chat, explore the fragrances and enjoy each other’s company. For couples, it’s a lovely way to discover something about each other. A scent can bring out a childhood story or a memory their partner hasn’t heard before. Choosing fragrances and making candles side by side gives them something to share, and each candle becomes a reminder of that time together. Whether it’s friends catching up or a couple on a date, I want it to feel relaxed and welcoming, with no pressure to be good at anything!" Is there a myth about candle making or aromatherapy people almost always believe before class that turns out to be wrong? "One common misconception is that you need to be a creative person to make a beautiful candle. People sometimes arrive saying, “I’m not artistic – I’ll probably get it wrong!” There is a science to candle making, and getting the measurements and temperatures right matters, but that’s what I’m there to guide them through. You don’t need any previous experience at all. People can also worry about choosing the “right” fragrance, but I always encourage them to trust their own response. The same scent might remind one person of a summer holiday and another of their grandmother’s home. Exploring those differences is part of the pleasure. There’s no need to smell what everyone else smells!" Do people worry more about the technical side, or about choosing the 'right' scent? How do you reassure them? "At first, it’s often the technical side: getting the temperature right, measuring correctly or worrying they’ll miss a step. I reassure people that I’ll guide them through everything and that there’s no rush. Once they get their hands involved, that nervousness usually starts to disappear. Choosing a scent can be a more personal kind of hesitation. People sometimes look to me to tell them which is best, but I encourage them to pause and notice their own reaction. Does it remind them of somewhere? Is it something they’d enjoy coming home to? I bring a bit of Italian warmth, and a little humour, to help everyone relax. It’s a shared table, and I’m there to help. They don’t have to arrive knowing anything; they just need to be curious." What's the very first task you give a beginner, and why start there? "The first thing I ask them to do is explore the fragrances. Before we get into measurements and temperatures, I invite them to smell, take their time and notice what comes to mind, a place, a person, a memory, or simply something they enjoy. I start there because it’s an easy way into the experience. You don’t need any technical knowledge, and there’s no right or wrong response. It gets people curious, starts conversations around the table and makes the candle feel personal from the beginning." What's the most unusual scent combination or candle design a student has ever created in your class? "Roasted potatoes! One student created a combination using rosemary that reminded us of potatoes roasting in the oven. That’s probably the most unexpected scent that’s come up in class, and I love it! We tend to think of candles smelling of flowers, citrus or wood, but the smells that mean the most to us aren’t always the obvious ones. Those warm, savoury notes can bring to mind a Sunday lunch, a busy kitchen or sitting around a table with family. It’s such a lovely example of how personal scent is. A comforting fragrance doesn’t have to be floral or sweet – sometimes the smell that makes you feel most at home is dinner in the oven." ...
