Join this sip and stitch embroidery workshop at The Plough and Harrow in Long Ditton and learn how to create a beautiful piece of 3D and beaded textile art. Whether you're a complete beginner or have dabbled with a needle before, this friendly, hands-on session is a wonderful way to switch off and find your creative spark.
Under the expert guidance of Katherine Savage from Treasure Kave Embroidery, you'll master a variety of essential stitches and beading techniques. You'll move through the process step-by-step, making it easy to pick up new skills in a low-pressure environment. Throughout the workshop, you'll learn:
  • Back stitch – Master this fundamental stitch for clean outlines.
  • Couching – Discover how to fasten decorative threads onto your fabric.
  • Woven rose wheels – Create stunning, textured floral elements.
  • Basket weave – Add depth and pattern to your embroidery.
  • French knots – Perfect these classic, dainty raised dots.
  • 3D beads and sequins – Learn the secrets to adding shimmer and dimension to your work.
You don't need to bring a thing as everything is set up for you. You'll receive a full kit containing all the high-quality materials required to complete your hoop design. It's a lovely excuse to catch up with a friend over a drink while you learn a skill that you can use to hand-craft unique gifts for your loved ones.

FAQ

Is this suitable for beginners?
During the workshop l’ll will be introducing a range of beginner hand embroidery stitches, starting with some easier ones and these will build up as your confidence grows.
When will l get the kit?
You’ll receive the kit with all materials on the day. There is also an option to buy your own pair of Janome 9cm embroidery scissors which you will take away as part of your kit. Scissors to borrow for the evening will also be provided.
What's the venue like?
At The Plough and Harrow, we have a lovely area in the conservatory which is both cosy and bright. As you come into the venue, walk past the bar and head towards the garden. There is free small car park at the front and free street parking all around the area.

How do l find the venue?
The Plough and Harrow, Long Ditton – Parking available at the front of the pub (Sat nav KT6 5JD) and also free parking in surrounding roads. Coming via Public transport - It's a short bus ride from Surbiton station or you can walk from the station in around 15/20 minutes.

I was first introduced to embroidery by my grandmother on the Isle of Wight during the school holidays at age 7. As a craft-loving child and then teen, we would spend hours talking about projects. I went on to study at the London College of Fashion and worked in buying for Harrods and Hugo Boss before switching over into the world of consultancy. Bit by bit, creativity slipped away from my everyday work life, but it became a huge source of mindfulness and comfort living in London. After the birth of my first child, I was made redundant while pregnant with my youngest daughter. So after some years focusing on being a mum, the opportunity to build something for myself that worked around family life was available to me. I started teaching embroidery workshops and worked tirelessly on commissions, selling on Etsy and doing craft markets, and then lockdown happened. Friends with older children asked me to remotely teach their kids embroidery, and my first kits were developed. That progressed quickly into a range of 40+ kits.
Today I exhibit at the UK's biggest stitching trade fairs, write for Stitch Magazine, and teach at wonderful locations across London and Surrey (and some across the UK too!). Teaching people in person is where it all started for me and where I'm truly my happiest. I'm not sure there's a greater privilege than to teach something you love and watch how others learn.
In today’s fast-paced world, passing down skills like these has become less common, but it’s something that I will always treasure. From the moment I picked up my first hoop, I was hooked, and embroidery has been a part of my creative journey ever since. I like to think at the end of every class I teach, the participants walk away with new skills and excitement for future projects.
