This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

I had never used a sewing machine before but she gave me the full basic run through and when I got home I was confident enough to do alterations on some cotton PJs (just making shorter). Marianne is super knowledgeable and experienced and I really felt as though she could answer any question I might have! - would highly recommend.

I learnt about the different stitches available on the machine. I had a practice on the machine. I even learnt how to make a button hole! Marsh my teacher was execellent. She was very welcoming, really clear with her instructions. Also she answered all my questions in a warm and friendly manner. The room was adequate, as were the materials for the task in hand.. I felt more confident about using my sewing machine after the workshop.

  • 5/5 from Leanne Gorham, attended Aug 2024: We had booked for a sewing workshop as my daughter has discovered a love for it. We focused on learning how to set up, and use a sewing machine (as we only had a child’s one at home) as well as practice stitching patterns to link all skills learnt together. Marsha was amazing and patient with my daughter, even helped to build her confidence by the end of the session, so much that when we got home she couldn’t wait to show the family what she had learnt with Marsha. The class was definitely worth the money spent, and we will be booking another one to cover more skills as time goes on. I highly recommend this workshop.

  • 4/5 from Aisling Maguire, attended Mar 2023: Sylvy provided a good overview of Hobbycrafts machines. Lost one star as wouldve been good to have the prefered machine, Singer, however Sylvy explained the similarities and differences in the machine I used well. Thanks Sylvy.
  • 5/5 from Amal McHrafi, attended Feb 2023: Marsha is a very good instructor and a lovely positive person. Just wished I could have stayed more and learn more with her. She made the course very simple and enjoyable. Thank you Amal
  • 5/5 from Steven Liu, attended Jan 2023: Marsha was a terrific teacher. I needed to get a handle on how to use a machine I picked up, have never sewed a stitch in my life. Marsha went through it all thoroughly and then had me have a go too. There are vids of how to get it set up, but it doesn't go over every nuance, I'm sure I would have missed some things if I'd only relied on that. Bottom line, if you have zero experience this is a great way to get started.
  • 5/5 from Amalia Macanlalay, attended Jun 2022: Really nice and helpful! I learnt a lot of things and Marsha was lovely. I will definitely come back!
