One-to-one Sewing Workshop

Join us in store and talk to a craft expert for tips and advice on your sewing machine or project!

1 hour Class size 1 on 1       £28

Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Jenny Peckham, attended Aug 2026: Great lesson and I learned lots of useful tips and ideas. The tips were the sort of thing that you would only pick up if you'd been sewing for a while so I feel like I am ahead of the game now.

  • 5/5 from Teju, attended Mar 2026: Very enjoyable personalised sewing class for me and my 13 year old daughter. Jill was patient and explained what do in detail. She was able to improve my daughter’s technique by giving her the individual attention that is lacking in a big classroom. She went through the basics of how to use a sewing machine (on 2 different machines), and let us practice after each step. I have done many sewing classes over the years, but I believe this one will stick.
  • 5/5 from Hayrunnisa Gilgil, attended Mar 2026: Jill was super nice she was so patient and was just really clear, answered all my questions and really encouraged me to take the next step into sewing. My only issue was the scheduling as they initially booked me at 11pm which was a mistake then 11am but there was a clash in the time so then they made it 12:30 which Im fine with but then I got a message saying its at 11am so it was a little confusing but once I got there it was all good!

I’m a sewer but haven’t been near my machine in 10+ years so wanted a refresher on functions and a focus on what to do when I find the threads all bunched up on the back of the fabric. Julie was my host, she was patient and happy to repeat advice on the various machine functions when I didn’t quite absorb the first demonstration. Julie’s teaching skills were excellent. I recommend this sewing class with Julie to new and experienced sewers alike. Date of class - Wednesday 3rd April 2024.

  • 5/5 from Serife Ayvaz, attended Oct 2021: Very good instructor well talked class with easy step by step instructions into how to use the machine an it’s set up how to sew with the different settings on the machine Handy tips on the machine as well as all the little extra tip given in the class
  • 4/5 from Patricia Rustem, attended Sep 2021: First, the positives: the teacher, Jill, was very nice and helpful and knew her stuff. However, Hobbycraft’s system is lacking- I was told not to bring anything, but apparently I should have brought my machine. Secondly, I tried to postpone the session the day before but got no response to my email, so went anyway. Nothing was set up when I arrived, but Jill was apparently a replacement teacher and she did set things up within ten minutes and gave me a full hour’s lesson. So the four stars are for her, and it would have been five stars if Hobbycraft were more organised. The session was a good refresher for me as I hadn’t sewn for many years, just what I asked Jill for.
  • 4/5 from Jennifer, attended Aug 2021: The teacher was very helpful. She help me understand the settings on my sewing machine.
