I wanted to make a bodice block tailored to me so I can make clothes that fit better. Jen provided everything I needed, she had prepared the materials in advance, and had everything to hand. She showed me what to do clearly. There was some maths to do but we managed it! I took away a front and back pattern piece which I will use to make lots of tops and dresses. I also have instructions for changing where the bust and shoulder darts are, and got some ideas from Jen about different ways to shape the bodice using separate pattern pieces. Jen also mentioned that she has group classes running where I can draft some sleeves, and I plan to come back to make a trouser block, which will be two sessions. It was great value as I got so much out of the time spent.

This is a very nice class, with a very relaxed vibe. Ali will make a cup of tea for everyone, then the first week we all brought out our patterns and got thinking and cutting. It’s a good way to learn, Ali talked through our fabric and other choices for the following week. Ali has lots of experience and is very patient and offers lots of good advice. One of us offered to bake cakes for next week, and after that we all took a turn to bring in cakes. I would highly recommend this strategy as sewing uses lots of energy and you will need cake! There was also a very lovely dog for a few weeks but don’t expect that every class as the dog was a model and belonged to one of the class. Oh and I made a dress
