Discover the quiet, meditative craft of rubber stamp carving at this unique printmaking workshop in London. Unlike traditional lino printing, which uses harder linoleum for larger, bolder prints, rubber stamp carving uses softer rubber and a precision knife to capture fine, illustrative linework, perfect for small marks on cards, journals, envelopes, gift wrapping, or anywhere you'd like to leave a personal imprint.
Never tried carving before? No worries! In this 2.5-hour session, you'll work in a small group of up to three under the close, hands-on guidance of an artist with 12 years of rubber stamp carving experience -- so you'll never be stuck or unsure what to do next.
What to expect:
  • Choose your design from a printed sheet of starter designs (Art Nouveau, vintage botanical, scientific line art) -- or bring one of your own.
  • Learn about the unique qualities of rubber stamp carving and how it differs from lino printing.
  • Transfer your chosen design onto the rubber and carve your very own stamp with hands-on guidance throughout.
  • Test, refine and finish your stamp, then ink and print it onto cards or paper to take home.
  • Pick up key skills along the way: basic stamp design principles, positive vs negative space, safe knife handling, carving techniques, and inking and test-printing.
By the end of the workshop, you'll leave with a beautifully hand-carved stamp, a complete take-home starter toolkit worth around £18 and the tools and confidence to keep carving at home.
Please note: The studio is located up a flight of stairs and is not currently wheelchair accessible.
