This relaxed and creative introductory pottery class is the perfect way to discover the basics of wheel throwing and experience the joy of making your own ceramics. In this two-hour taster class, an experienced and friendly pottery teacher will guide you through the essential techniques of working with clay on the pottery wheel. You’ll learn how to prepare and centre your clay before getting hands-on and creating your own simple pots and forms.
No previous pottery experience is needed. Whether you’re completely new to ceramics, looking for a fun creative activity, or simply curious to see if wheel throwing is for you, you’ll receive step-by-step guidance and plenty of encouragement throughout the session.
You’ll have the opportunity to practise on the wheel and create up to three pots, exploring different shapes and forms as you become more comfortable with the clay. Your teacher will demonstrate the techniques and help you develop your confidence while allowing you the freedom to experiment and enjoy the process.
Once you’ve created your pieces, you’ll be able to choose your glaze, adding your own personal touch to your finished ceramics. Your pots will then be carefully fired after the class, transforming your handmade creations into finished ceramic pieces.
As well as learning the basics of wheel throwing, this taster class is about enjoying the process of working with clay. Pottery can be calming and absorbing, and there’s something special about turning a simple lump of clay into something completely unique with your own hands.
This is a private, bookable-on-request experience, making it ideal for a creative date, a day out with friends or family, or anyone wanting a more personal introduction to pottery.
Come along, get your hands muddy, and discover the satisfying art of wheel throwing in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
