Important venue update: From May onwards, all workshops will take place at our new studio at 377 Station Road, Forest Gate. If you are booking a class scheduled after May, please note the new location when planning your visit.
In this intimate workshop, you'll learn the foundational techniques of wheel throwing pottery, creating your own handmade ceramic pieces in a professional studio setting. This hands-on activity is perfect for complete beginners, with a maximum of three students ensuring plenty of personal attention.
If you've always wanted to try pottery but felt uncertain about where to begin, this welcoming workshop provides the perfect introduction. You'll receive expert guidance throughout the two-hour session, learning at a comfortable pace in a supportive environment.
Starting with the basics, you'll discover how to centre clay on the wheel and master the essential techniques for pulling up walls to create cylinder shapes. Working with approximately 3lbs of clay, you'll receive step-by-step instruction as you develop your skills. For those who have some experience or specific projects in mind, the session can be tailored to your needs (please contact the studio in advance to discuss).
The meditative nature of working with clay makes this workshop particularly special - as you learn to feel and respond to the material, you'll discover the peaceful satisfaction of creating with your hands. At the end of the session, you can choose to have your favourite pieces professionally fired and glazed by the studio technicians. You'll be notified when your finished pottery is ready for collection, allowing you to take home lasting reminders of your first steps in this ancient craft.
Please note: We strive to help you create something amazing during your pottery class. Because each piece is handmade and involves many variables (such as clay handling, glaze, and firing conditions), we’re unable to offer refunds or replacements for defects or damages that occur in items you’ve made.
What you'll get
1-3 Items thrown items fired and glazed included in the price.
