What you'll do
Unleash your creativity and join sustainable designer Jen Byrne in this 3h workshop where you'll breathe new life into your old clothing. Bring along a t-shirt, jacket, jeans, or tote bag that needs a fresh look, and I’ll guide you through ways to make it unique using appliqué / decorative patching.
Maybe your favourite comfy top has a stubborn stain or awkward rip. This workshop is as much about repair and longevity as it is about expressing your style through upcycling!
In this workshop, you'll learn: machine and hand sewing appliqué techniques that will elevate your items from ordinary to extraordinary.
You'll have the chance to experiment with colours, patterns, and styles that reflect your individuality. Leave the workshop with not only a revamped garment but also a newfound skill that allows you to continue your upcycling journey at home.
Please note: this venue is accessed by stairs and has no lift.

Knowledge required
Beginner friendly.If you've never used a sewing machine before, or would like a refersher, please add the option to arrive 30 mins earlier for an introduction to using the machines!
What you'll get
- Information and inspiration for your upcycling creations!
- Use of sewing machines (but you're also welcome to bring your own)
- Use of sewing thread, scissors, needles and embroidery threads
- Heaps of vintage fabrics to choose from and use for your appliqué designs including pre-prepared patches
- Ruffles and trims to add a little something extra
- Beads and sequins to add even more pizazz!
- Tea, coffee and snacks to keep the creativity going!

The Studio is well serviced by lots of bus routes: 1, 4, 5, 19, 26, 34, 35, 44, 45, 113, 124, X5, X6, X7. A small car park is available. Abbeymount is an old Victorian building and the studio is accessed by stairs.

I am a sustainable fashion designer from Dublin, now based in Edinburgh. I studied Fashion Design in Ireland before coming to Scotland to do a Masters in Sustainable & Ethical Fashion.
My work uses exclusively vintage and reclaimed materials in a bid to showcase the beauty of reuse!
I really enjoy teaching people and sharing in the joy of creating, upcycling and making unique pieces.
